A monster lives in your backyard.
The 2x4's are making their way around.
The big get bigger when the fight's done.
I found that secret door.
A man with a shovel's gonna dig deep down
To find out where it feeds.
A house.
A catalog full of nothing good.
The white house ponders no remorse.
The big get bigger when the fight's done.
I found that secret door.
A man with a shovel's gonna dig deep down
To find out where it feeds.
A house.
It seems like a drag to be torn apart by unexpected hands.
It's in your name it's in your face I'm wrong again.

General Comment:This was probably about the rapidly changing landscape of our neighborhoods in the mid-90s here in AZ. Developers have always controlled everything here, and all the open space we once enjoyed nearby our homes was likely already zoned and/or permitted for development before anyone even got a chance to express an opinion.

My Interpretation:I think this song is about the world and how it is changing. The backyard being what we see as our home, Earth.

"The 2x4's are making their way around"
Buildings get bigger, and more spread out every year.

"The big get bigger when the fights done"
Corporations and Powerful people get more and more powerful every day.

    "I found that secret door"
He see's what is happening, but what can one person do?

"A Man with a shovel is gonna dig deep down and find out where it feeds"
The white house, our government is letting it happen, and someday, someone is going to expose it.

"it seems like a drag to be torn apart by unexpected hands."

By now this should be pretty easy to interpret based on my views of this song. But this is only my opinion, Tom or Jim could have been writing about something completely different. But this made the most sense to me out of all. The world is changing, and the rich are the ones who have control over the poor. And it's getting worse and worse as the years go on. It's amazing that if this is true, he saw this 13 years ago. Because now, most people still cant even see it.

General Comment:Well I only heard this song for a few hours ago but I think the song might be about some form of domestic abuse from a father or other male relative. The lines that make me think this are:

"A monster lives in your backyard." The monster being the abuser and the backyard meaning that he is someone very close to home to the person (ie. a relative) or he is literally singing to one of his neighbours that one of their neighbours is a violent drunk etc.

"The big get bigger when the fight's done"
The abuser only picks on the small and weak to make themselves feel bigger and better.

"A catalogue of nothing good" Just another reference that the house was a home to abuse.

"To find out where it feeds: A house." The occupants of the house are the victims of the "monster"

It could be the idea of domestic abuse, but it could be the psychologist idea that Basic had.
