Saying I love you
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It's not that I want you
Not to say, but if you only knew
How easy it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
'Cause I'd already know
What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn't make things new
Just by saying I love you

More than words

Now that I've tried to talk to you and make you understand
All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hands and touch me
Hold me close don't ever let me go
More than words is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
'Cause I'd already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn't make things new
Just by saying I love you

More than words

Song Meaning:Many people claim that this song is about asking for sex. I guess that could be half right. The song is saying how the phrase "I love you" is overused to the point it no longer means anything, yet people still use it and think it will fix things or make their significant other feel loved. What the song is saying is "you say you love me, but you never show it". That doesn't necessarily mean sex. It could mean going out of your way to help or be there for them, a kiss on the cheek, a surprise visit at work, cuddling up on the couch, putting them before yourself. That's what they are trying to get at. Now could this also mean sex, but that's not the only thing that shows a guy/girl that you care.

General Comment:I remember getting my first kiss to this song after a middle school Valentines dance. She just looked at me, and asked, well, are you gonna kiss me? I get a lot of crap from my friends for liking the song, but to me its always gonna have a place because I did get my first kiss to it.

My Interpretation:Saying "I love you" is easy, fast. But showing it so that the recipient feels loved requires time and dedication. The song laments that they love someone but do not feel loved in return. The song challenges the loved one to show love without using any words.

Song Meaning:The song was described by Bettencourt as a song warning that the phrase "I love you" was becoming meaningless: "People use it so easily and so lightly that they think you can say that and fix everything, or you can say that and everything's OK. Sometimes you have to do more and you have to show it - there's other ways to say 'I love you.'"

Memory:Anyone else out there totally remember the cover of this on MMC? JC Chasez singing lead and Tony Lucca playing guitar and singing backup. So beautiful. Anyways, I guess I can see how some people would want to think it's about showing physical love. Not me though. I'm a hopeless romantic for sure.

General Comment:Going through this right now. This song is the soundtrack of my relationship. He's failed to show me that he wants me; has ont been asking me to take him back, and reminding me, in words, that he loves me. He knows what to do, as I told him the exact instructions; pick me up when I get off work for one week. First night he got drunk and ditched me. Last night, never came.

He needs to do something, instead of tell me what he wants to do.

    More than words.

Song Meaning:don't be perverts u all,it can be that there are 2 persons in love, and they just haven't kissed, that they are still in the boyfriend girlfriend process, and she tells him that she loves him, but he wants her to show it..and i think they ment with a kiss, kind of a cute love moment, not a sex one.

Memory:Every time I hear this song I think of a long-lost love of mine from 17 years ago! We had been dating for around five months or so and despite my strong feelings for him, I was worried that he didn't feel the same way (long story). I was trying so hard not to be all the things that I was that were detrimental in my former relationship: jealous, paranoid, possessive etc. that I was literally scared to death to tell this man that I love(d) him--yet I did. So, this song comes up on his TV one evening as we were sitting in his LR. He didn't turn the station and so this uncertain part of myself took this to mean that there was this possibility that he felt the same way about me too, that in his past as in mine, he'd heard the words too much but needed the actions that go along with them. Something happened over the next couple of months after that night and we ended up not seeing each other again. It was very painful for me. I didn't want to 'beg' so to speak. I wrote him a letter asking him to explain why he dropped off the face of the earth and never called me again but I never heard back. Needless to say, I can still get myself going about this even now when I'm in certain frames of mine. So, when I hear this song, I will always think of this person and how I didn't show him nearly enough how much he meant to me, that I loved him. Those reading this, don't let fear rule you. Do as the song says--act out the words and then say them when you are both ready and able to hear them.
