Lyrics for Off the Beaten Path as interpreted by leyyyla

Off the Beaten Path Lyrics
Well, I'm trying to be patient
Yeah, the wheels keep turning around
But it's a treadmill and I'm just dragging my feet
I'm so tired of everything, defeated by routine
By words that don't mean anything to me
At least not anymore
Now that I'm done with the morning
Of a day without ending
A year of decadence to escape from penance
But I suffered, and I'm over it
Yeah, I'm fine now, but I'm sick of it
I was happy being miserable
I used to lay down my head on the bar
And raise one lonely finger for a drink

It doesn't have to be so difficult
Just keep coasting by
So you lost a limb
Well hell, these wounds will heal with time
(But what happens when you loved what you lost?)
You didn't have to cut it off
But I did and I do and it took everything I had
I wonder if I could ever get it back to how it was
When I still thought of love as a risk I could take
If I was willing to make the commitment to rejection
The mind games, the deception
The late nights under the covers
Pointing the finger at whoever started
Whatever we were fighting about

I guess that I'm fine now
Yeah, everything's better
Everything's cooled down
It's all copasetic
We'll move on, off to a better world
To a fresh start where anything's possible
But I'm sick of it
Yeah, I'm sick of it
I am so sick of it
Uh-huh

These and those Cursive songs are good songs but something is just not right...there just are not enough comments for so many views...look at Konstantine(*sigh*)and how many comments are there..and where it now sits on the charts...i smell something fishy.

I dig em both. I think Omaha can hold it's salt next to any bigger city in the US at the moment. Maybe not past DC, Chapel Hill...u know, but for now, Omaha is as good as it gets.

aw man. tim is soooo much better than connor. i mean, nothing against connor, but his lyrics are no where near as complex. the good life and cursive don't have one bad song. beautiful. just beautiful. i think i'm in love with tim. *swoon*

I used to really respect conor till I was flipping through a people magazine in the waiting room before an orthodontist appointment and I saw him kissing Winona Ryder... what is up with that???? I'm not saying it's bad for him to get publicity... But when you see Conor Oberst, of all people, in a People magazine. theres definately something wrong... but hey, he's still a brilliant lyricist.

You lose respect of someone as an artist when you see them kissing someone you don't like?
damn most artists have flaws, some of them are even criminals (polanski anyone?), but you don't stop respecting them as artists until they do something unrespectful of art.
Saying you lose respect of him because he kissed winona is really dumb.

and BTW winona is allright.
I like Conor better, even though Tim is better as a singer and not a bad songwriter at all. But he seems to be a little bit unidimensional sometimes, and too self-centered like he always wants to write "raw" and direct emotional stuff. Conor sounds more detached and aware of it. I like the detached and more visual writing style of Conor the best. Hey, nothing against Tim, I like him a lot. But Conor blows my mind. Tim is sometimes a bit depressing in his lyrics, I mean that I can barely find a song where hes got a bit of hope, he seems very negative, unlike Conor who seems always to be longing for something more. I don't know, it just seems that he has a broader vision, and a style that is more my taste, both musically and lyrically. I actually don't get while the stupid teenagers like him so much, probably because they don't get it.
but as I said, I still think Tim's pretty good.

hmm...i'm not a groupie. only someone that finds tim a bit immature sometimes in his writing. He's GOOD but sometimes childish IMHO. All the bitterness, and being cynical, that's something
I do think that Conor is deeper and writes like someone who is older, despite being younger.

We all have our opinions, I gave mine, trying to be respectful of others, so don't give me your shit please.
You probably don't even understand my points I know. it's too hard for you to have a broader scope than "I just turned 20 and I'm oh so indie and cynical!".
Let someone over 25 listen to Cursive or the Good Life and they would say it's "good enough", make them listen to Bright Eyes and it will blow their minds.

I cut out a part:

All the bitterness, and being cynical, that's something that is very immature despite what people in their late teens/early 20's might think.
