So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
I'm singing this note 'cause it fits in well with the chords I'm playing
I can't pretend there's any meaning hidden in the things I'm saying
But I'm in tune
Right in tune
I'm in tune
And I'm gonna tune
Right in on you
Right in on you
Right in on you
I get a little tired of having to say
"Do you come here often?"
But when I look in your eyes, I see the harmonies
And the heartaches soften
I'm getting in tune
Right in tune
I'm in tune
And I'm gonna tune
Right in on you (right in on you)
Right in on you (right in on you)
Right in on you
I got it all here in my head
There's nothing more needs to be said
I'm just bangin' on my old piano
I'm getting in tune to the straight and narrow
(Getting in tune to the straight and narrow)
Getting in tune to the straight and narrow
(I'm getting in tune to the straight and narrow)
Yeah, I'm getting in tune to the straight and narrow
(I'm getting in tune to the straight and narrow)
I'm singing this note 'cause it fits in well with the way I'm feeling
There's a symphony that I hear in your heart, sets my head a-reeling
But I'm in tune
Right in tune
I'm in tune
And I'm gonna tune
Right in on you (right in on you)
Right in on you (right in on you)
Right in on you
Baby, with you
(Baby, with you)
Baby, with you
(Baby, with you)
Baby, with you
I've got it all here in my head
There's nothing more needs to be said
I'm just bangin' on my old piano
I'm getting in tune to the straight and narrow
Getting in tune to the straight and narrow
I'm getting in tune to the straight and narrow
Getting in tune to the straight and narrow
I'm getting in tune to the straight and narrow
(Getting in tune to the straight and narrow)
Yeah, I'm getting in tune to the straight and narrow
(Getting in tune to the straight and narrow)
Yeah, I'm getting in tune to the straight and narrow
(Getting in tune to the straight and narrow)
Yeah, I'm getting in tune to the straight and narrow, yeah
(Getting in tune to the straight and narrow)
(Getting in tune to the straight and narrow)
(Getting in tune to the straight and narrow)
(Getting in tune to the straight and narrow)

OK ... so this is probably the worst song on an otherwise flawless album...the lyrics are so dumb thta i burst out laughing the first time i heard them..i mean...and i'm gonna tune right in on to you??? So what happened to pete townshend the great lyricist??? I dont see how the same people who sang baba o riley and wont get fooled again could possibly sing this one...but hey whos next is still one of my favourite albums ever... with all the other stuff it has, you can forgive them for this particular disaster
ITS A PUPPY LOVE SONG YA RETARD! DONT DISS THIS SONG OF EINTWISLE WILL COME BACK FROM THE DEAD AND EAT YOU!<br />
ok maby not exactly puppy love. from what i gather its about (Pete?) falling in love after so many failed attempts( for example "im gettin' pretty tired of havin' to say 'do ya come here often, but im in tune.'
@piper_@_thegates Well, now it's been some 12 years since you wrote it. Maybe you're a grown up by now, and it would be fine to seeif you still think like you did.
