Today's a reason for living
Today's the blood from a stone
Today's a light from a candle
Helping us to find our way home

Today we carry each other
Today the past is a freak
Today's a time for forgiveness
You were never that good to me

(Welcome to this world of mine)

I'm sorry, I can't lie
I'm wasting too much time
Drowning I've been blind
But I've opened up my eyes
Sorry, I can't lie
So I just say goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye
Yeah

Today's tasting the honey
Today's the strike of a match
And today's the lines in the pavement
Helping us to find our way back
Today's the crosses we carry
Today's the strength that we need
And today's the hand of an angel
You were not the kind to believe

(Welcome to this world of mine)

I'm sorry, I can't lie
I'm wasting too much time
Drowning I've been blind
But I've opened up my eyes
Sorry, I can't lie
So I just say goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye
Yeah

Oh what a day, oh what a day, oh my God
Oh what a day, oh what a day, oh my God
Oh what a day, oh what a day, oh my God
And oh my God, and oh my God, yeah

Today we carry each other
Today we do what we should
Today's a time for forgiving
Today I wish I could

I'm sorry, I can't lie
I'm wasting too much time
Drowning, I've been blind
But I've opened up my eyes
Sorry, I can't lie
So I just say goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
Another bye, goodbye, goodbye
Another bye, goodbye, goodbye, yeah
Another bye, goodbye, goodbye
Another bye, goodbye, bye

My Interpretation:My interpretation of this song, is that it's about a boy.
He was with a girl, or possibly a friend, who would treat him badly, and drag him down, but he's realized he's better than this, and deserves better, so he "opens up his eyes" and says "goodbye".

    When Raine sings;
    "I'm sorry, I can't lie
    I'm wasting too much time,
    Drowning, I've been blind"

It puts me under the impression that he would lie to whomever, prior to his realization, and he would go along with what they said, in fear of losing a friend, or lover. When he states he's been wasting too much time, it's him coming to the realization that this relationship is a waste of his time, and will only male him worse, rather than better.
In saying he was drowning, Raine is basically saying the relationship was drowning him.
This is my impression of it, at least.

General Comment:This is about someone who maybe said some negative things they shouldn't have said and is sorry for any pain they caused to whomever was listening. The singer is saying they can't go back and change what has happened and that is why the "goodbye". I think the singer has changed and regrets their actions though "Drowning I've been blind But I've opened up my eyes"

Perhaps they tried to apologize before and the person didn't accept it and was trying to make them suffer. "And today's the hand of an angel You were not the kind to believe" The person didn't believe in the singer's goodness but the singer is basically a good person.

"Today's a time for forgiveness You were never that good to me" whomever (person or persons) the singer needs to forgive has been even more cruel and the singer has been trying to get past that.

"Today the past is a freak" I interpret this as what ever has happened in the past was very crazy and dramatic. Today the singer is willing to move on by living in the moment and trying to be a better person.

I'm not assuming its a love song though.

General Comment:I would disagree with that. This song could definitely be about religion.

    "Today's the crosses we carry
Today's the strength that we need
And today's the hand of an angel
You were not the kind to believe"

Jesus says in the Bible "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." (Luke 9:23) So what are the chances OLP says "Today's the crosses we carry" without making a reference to the bible? Also they repeatedly talk about God and angels.

General Comment:alright, since no one has corrected this in over 6 years, i figure i misewell put this out there, because it's one of my favorite parts about this song.
The part where it says 'Today's a time for forgiveness; you were never that good to me.' (WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD.)
not (welcome this this world of mine)
this song rules. the beat is sick. it just makes you so pumped. And yes, this song is about a breakup. Guy leaving his girl. Nothing to do with religion. Sorry. That's just you analyzing it wrong and thinking this message was sent to you from god. it wasn't.

General Comment:to come back to the religion thing. I once asked Raine if he tried to convey religious beliefs without actually stating his belief (the God, angels and hope references) and he replied that he would not try to present christian values without actually stating anything. meaning that if he was christian and he wanted to convey religious beliefs/values, then he would just say it straight up. He said people can take away whatever they want from the songs, and if a religious aspect is what some of us take out of it, then he's happy with that. As long as the song makes an impact on you, whatever kind it is.

General Comment:I can't help but see this song from a more sociological view.

    "Drowning I've been blind
But I've opened up my eyes"

This line, to me, is displaying Members Knowledge. He's been blind to everything that is going on around him and now he's starting to open up your eyes and realize what's going on.

    "Sorry, I can't lie"

It's saying that he's not going to give in to what society is calling "normal" because in our society the norm IS to lie, whether it be a big lie or a small one to stop from hurtings someones feelings.
    ALSO, the line

    "Today we carry each other
Today we do what we should
    Today's a time for forgiving
    Today I wish I could..."

is saying that the norm should be to forgive and forget, but he is being a deviant in not being able to do that.

But hey, that's just my opinion!!

General Comment:I'm not sure whether or not they're religious in general, since a lot of their songs make references that could be tied in with Christianity.

Even if it's not, I definately don't think it's about futhering yourself from religion, highdiffado. Why would he have the line
"And today's the hand of an angel
You were not the kind to believe"
    if it were?

So we know it's about grasping the moment, and either religion or relationships.

General Comment:hippy christians. every song with 'God' in it just has to be about God and born again christians, doesn't it? christ.

you guys are missing part of the song, btw. the thing he is saying goodbye to, he keeps coming back to and leaving. listen to the lyrics at the end of the song - another goodbye, another goodbye.
