Lyrics for Cubicles as interpreted by MooWasHere

Cubicles Lyrics
It's the tearing sound of love-notes
Drowning out the gray stained windows
And the view outside is sterile
But I'm only two cubes down
I'll photocopy all the things that we could be
If you took the time to notice me
But you can't now, I don't blame you
And it's not your fault that no one ever does
-Chorus-
But you don't work here anymore
Its just a vacant 3 by 4
And they might fill your place
A temporary stand-in for your face

It happens all the time
And I can't help but think I'll die alone

So I'll spend my time with strangers
A condition that is terminal
In this water-cooler romance
And its coming to a close
We could be in the park and dancing by a tree
Kicking over blades we see
Or a dark beach with a black view
As pin-pricks in the velvet break our fall
-Chorus-
I know you don't work here anymore, I know you don't work here anymore
I know you don't work here anymore, I know you don't work here anymore
I know you don't work here anymore, I know you don't work here anymore
Sometimes I think I'll die alone, sometimes I think I'll die alone
Sometimes I think I'll die alone, live and breathe and die alone
Sometimes I think I'll die alone, sometimes I think I'll die alone
Sometimes I think I'll die alone, I'd think I'd love to die alone

I think I'd love to die alone

I know this is weird, but i think that this song is about some guy that is incapable of loving that falls in love with a woman he works with and then kills her and is sad and misses her, hense, "this happens all the time". I think that this means that he has something wrong with him so that whoever he loves, he kills. And i think that he's trying to convince himself that he'd love to die alone. But that's just what I think.

I think this song is about how he loved this one girl and she didn't take the time to notice him and he thought of everything they could be, then he gets over her or tries to. He tries to fill her place, so he's going in and out of relationships trying to get past this one girl. He is doing everything he can to get his mind off of this love that he has, but he knows that he can't. He feels like its terminal to even try...and then he comes to think that he would be better off alone. And he would love to die alone. I don't know, maybe that's wrong. That's just what I get from it

Awesome song about a guy who works in an office and loves a colleague, but she doesn't even notice him. But also about the conformity of modern life and some other symbolic stuff which everyone else is talking about.

I love how MCR do that. At first glance, their songs may appear just to be a single-thread story or statement, but if you look closer there are hidden metaphors and meanings as well. All this put together with great instrumentalists, an enthusiasm which never fails to make me smile, and a pretty hot vocalist, guitarist and bassist? Yes, please! I want MCR. NOW.

one thing with songs like these they have allot of meanings to different people, for me the song is actually about a relationship but they broke up because she fell out of love with him and even though they were together she still felt like a stranger to him, 'i`ll photocopy all the things that we could be' enthusiasm for his new girlfriend, 'if you took the time to notice me' if only she showed the same enthusiasm.
when he says 'you dont work here any more' could be a metaphor for 'you dont love me anymore', 'vacant 3 by 4' could be her heart that he is no longer in, and when it says 'they might fill your place, a temporary stand in for your face' i think ''they'' is himself, and by ''filling her place with a temporary stand in for her face'' is him trying to get over the one he loves by spendin time with other women just trying to forget, like the part ''spending time with strangers''
'i think i`ll love to die alone' i think could also be 'i think i`ll learn to die alone'.
so bassicaly i think its about a relationship of two people who brake up because they wearnt in the same place as eachother, he loved her and she might of but just got bored of him, hence 'you dont love me anymore' she did but not as much as he did to her.

it's about those people who get obsessive over certain people, and may eventually lead to stalking. this guy has fallen for a woman that workeda few cubicles away and she's gone. he makes images of their life together in his head, even if they never happened and never will. she was also someone he could relate to in their confinement in cubicles

This for Kurdt Kobain: Fuck you!! If you hate MCR so much then why the fuck did you come on this page?! You just should've went to your pussy ass bands that you like and look at their songs and write you feel. Instead you dicided to come on this page and write shit about one of the best bands on earth.
Anyway back to songmeanings
I think this song is about Gerard and how he liked this girl and wrote loves notes to her but ripped them when she got fired. "It's the tearing sound of love notes." And he can't help but to think that he would die alone because all the girls he dated weren't right for him so he figured out that it would be better for him to die alone so he won't half to deal with the bullshit.

This song is about obsession and rejection. he used cubicles as a metaphor to any situation where every day you see the same girl and fall in love with her. "It's the tearing sound of love-notes Casting out the gray stained windows " means that he writes love notes to her, but never has the nerve to give them to her, so he throws them out a window. basically the song is about loving someone who you see every day but doesn't even notice you exist.

I've been so confused reading the lyrics for "casting out the gray stained windows" cause i thought my ears were going wack or smthg, so thanks HelenaFan, now i know i'm not loosin my mind.

Oh, btw, this song is so awesome as well as every single other my chem song.
yeah, the story's realy cool and everything, but i was wondering if it was just concept or real, but yeah, to Kurdt-Kobain, a I dunno, but I'd lmao if you'd come back here to read all mcr fans dissings, cause if you are out of your mind and reading this, I think I got a call for you: it was the f-loser badtaste group, they wanted their music back.

I love this song. It's amazing how MCR can continue to bring out original, powerful songs from beginning to end on EVERY album so far, and they DO rock.

And ASDFQ I agree, I mean no band is "hard". All bands have deep songs, love songs, sad songs, suicidal songs etc. When they write songs, they're not ALWAYS going to be feeling like they have to kill themselves or that they need to murder people.
