Lyrics for Headfirst For Halos as interpreted by MooWasHere

Headfirst For Halos Lyrics
Well let's go back to the middle of the day that starts it all
I can't begin to let you know just what I'm feeling
I take the red ones to make me fly
And the blue ones help me fall
And I think I'll blow my brains against the ceiling
As the fragments of my skull begin to fall
Fall on your tounge like pixie dust just think happy thoughts
-Chorus-
And we'll fly home
We'll fly home
You and I
We'll fly home

That's what I said to her, what I said to her
Think happy thoughts

its about drugs...red ones make me fly blue ones make me fall. That suggests drugs or being drugged. I love the drums in the begining. Think happy thoughts guys apparently its sposed to work.

its about peter pan. 'think happy thoughts'=what you need to fly. pixy dust is what also makes you fly...and the red pills are what make you grow (in alice in wonderland), the blue ones make you shrink..

a slight correction to your veiws on the song; it's about gerards battle with depression. People suffering from depression are often given uppers and downers, the drugs often counteract each other; i.e making him fly and helping him fall. his irratic mood made him suicidal; thinking he would blow his brains against the ceiling. it was written as a positive message to people who are feeling down; just thing happy thoughts... and no, its not ironic.

one thing I'm surprised no one has pointed out with the Peter Pan thing...the clapping. In the original play clapping was what brought Tinkerbell back to life, if you notice the clapping doesn't really start till after he's done singing the main peice, therefor in a way bringing him back.
....Even if it doesn't really have atleast a bit of origin in Peter Pan I like pretending it does XP

I think its about suicide but its trying to make you feel better. like most songs just that are about it just make you feel worst and its trying to make people feel better and 'think happy thoughts'

it is kinda of ironic because its a really upbeat song like you can get and dance to but the words are depressing

this is such an amazing song, not just because of the awesome riff Toro kicks out and Gerard's contrasting darker lyrics but what it means. Personally, I think its a little about how much you hate the place you're in (we'll fly home) and about how you just want to get to a better place, but you think you'll maybe never get there, because of what you've done trying to get there. A little confusing, but the sheer feeling behind it is truly impressive. Easily one of the best songs ever written

Yeah it sounds like its about suicide but its not. Its about having a shitty day and thinking of the worst thoughts imaginable, taking them and turning them into something positive, in this case an amusing song about blowing your brains out and cheering yourself up in the process!

I believe its about this couple, and the guys on drugs, he wants to kill himself and he thinks his girlfriend should be glad he's gone. Thats what I got out of it, you guys have also sparked some new points that hadn't even crossed my mind.

i think its about suicide and hating life and that when gerard says "think happy thoughts" he means that when things went wrong he thought of happy things to try to forget it all and that everything would go away and that on days when he was suicidal he thought of happy things to keep him from actually killing himself...gerard also says "the red ones make me fly and the blue ones help me fall" i think he means that he was taking pills to help him feel better.

to all of the people who said it refers to peter pan, i never really thought about this song that way and there are many things that were pointed out in this song that does make it sound like that is what gerard had wanted this song to mean.

i really could be wrong though....i mean, he could have been just sitting there and just wrote what was on his mind at the moment and peter pan could have been his inspiration....who knows???

in the latest issue of AP he said that didnt write about personal experiences because then people would be like "boohoo...i cant relate to this". so the people who said peter pan could be right.

i really thought about the lyrics when i first heard the song and i will admit that i have thought about suicide. it kind of made me feel better by the powerful lyrics and hearing this kind of stuff from my favorite band made me happy that i didnt end up hurting myself....

even though i dont know(and probably never will find out) the true meaning of the lyrics, headfirst for halos is a great song and i ♥ mcr!

I love this song so much! I can't stop listening to it. I'm not too sure what it's about but I think it's either drugs or suicide. Drugs being that by taking the "red ones" or the "blue ones" it'll give a feeling like flying-forgetting your worries and just letting your mind go. Or the suicide part, where he and whoever else is gonna commit suicide by jumping. Dunno exactly. Anyhow, this song rocks.

i think this song is just about the monotany of every day life. i think that it definately references suicide and drugs, but its about frustration too. how many of us have said in passing on a bad day...oh just shoot me...or why can't i just die...you know, not wanting to DIE neccessarily but just being SICK OF IT. i think it is his frustration at life and his frustration at himself for not always being up to task...having to take pills to help him get through stuff. its written in a highly sarcastic vain, which is brilliant and that's where all the happy thought stuff comes in. i can completely relate...i want to pull my hair out on a daily basis and this song just has a purifying and cleansing effect on me. and i do believe that he was thinking of peter pan a little bit when he wrote it.

MCR effing rock my black and white stripped socks! This is my all time favourite MCR song, i love it so much. I think the meaning is preety simple, Gerard wrote it for all people who are going through tough times, possible depression, and are taking out their emotions on drugs and whatnot. "the red ones to make me fly and the blue ones help me fall" is talking about the drugs. When he sings "We'll fly home" and the repeated, "Think Happy Thoughts" at the end of the song, it's saying to basically, even though their are some tough times, just think 'happy thoughts' try and think positive to get through it all. When i first listened to it, i was bouncing around like a effing lunatic because it's uppy tempo, i think Gerard did that to make the listener kind of, happy i guess. It's a sad song, in a upbeat tempo. V clever, love it!

The Peter Pan theory isn't all that crazy - on Life On The Murder Scene they mention that Gerard Way was in a Peter Pan school pantomime as the lead when he was younger.
