Lyrics for Skylines And Turnstiles as interpreted by MooWasHere

Skylines And Turnstiles Lyrics
You're not in this alone
Let me break this awkward silence
Let me go, go on record
Be the first to say I'm sorry
Hear me out.
when if you take me down
or would you lay me out
And if the world needs something better
Let's give them one more reason now

We walk in single file
We light up rails and punch our time
Ride escalators colder than a cell
-Chorus-

This broken city sky like butane on my skin
and stolen from my eyes
Hello Angel tell me where are you
Tell me where we go from here
(Repeat)
And in this moment we can't close the lids on burning eyes
Our memories blanket us with friends we know like fallout vapor
Steel corpses stretch out towards and ending sun scorched and black
It reaches in and rips your flesh apart
With ice cold hands and grabs a hold of your heart
That's if you've still got one that's left inside that cave you call a chest
And after seeing what we saw, can we still reclaim our innocence
And if the world needs something better
Let's give them one more reason now
-Chorus-

any mcr fan worth anything knows that the band formed after 9-11 when gerard realized he had to get out of the basement stop drawing cartoons and try to make a difference, and this song is about that happening

This song is definately about 9-11. ( "After seeing what we saw, can we still reclaim our innocence" and other lines about the broken city sky give it away.) I read in an interveiw or something that the band formed because Gerard's cartoon (The Breakfast Monkey) didn't make it and he felt that he had to make a difference, like " i am parker lewis" said. Then...My Chemical Romance was formed. Anyway...awesome song!

I always thought the chorus was

This fucking city sky
You've tainted my skin
Stolen from my eyes
Hell i hate you

Correction: instead of "It reaches in and rips your flesh apart" it's "It reaches in and tears your flesh apart."
It's probably really silly, but I'm kind of anal about stuff like that....
And yeah, this song is about 9/11. Gerard Way said it himself.

I worked out the 9/11 thing a few months ago, when I was reading a thing in a magazine about mcr. It said something about 9/11 being one of the reasons G. started the band - he wanted to find a bunch of guys who'd speak to people. And I started thinking "that fits with this song..."
"This broken city sky" - the skyline seemed 'broken' without the towers, for a while. And still does, to some people.
"You're not in this alone" - Not the only one who was horrified by what happened.
"And in this moment we can't close the lids on burning eyes" - When you were watching it, you couldn't look away, even though you wanted to.
"Our memories blanket us" - You couldn't help but panic about your friends & family, thinking "what if they were there?" even if you KNEW they weren't.
I love this song. It's my favourite on the Bullets album.

This song is about September 11th. Gerard saw it happen, he was meeting in New York with Cartoon Network pitching an idea for one of his cartoons, "Breakfast Monkey." Witnessing the event changed his life. After the event he and Matt wrote the song.

This broken city sky like butane on my skin.
Although I think you can interpret it how you want, this song clearly isn't about lots of stupid americans blown up in some towers by some guys who know how to make a cool scene.
I presume it's about vampirism, and I like to think it's personal, rather than about a major, over-publicised, albeit very cool event.

I hope you feel really good about yourself after writing that wackus. Hope you meant it, that it wasn't meant to sound as idiotiq as it did to the rest of us. You shouldn't feel like you're welcome to make this song about something it's not. Everybody here knows it's about 9-11, dude. Gerard has said it. There's no doubt. Got it?

On the other hand, I believe we find some of My Chem's all-time most amazing lyrics on this song, and it's their first one!! That is almost hard to believe if you are a random person, but Gerard is such and admirable human being.
"It reaches in and tears your flesh apart
like ice cold hands rip into your heart!
That's if you still got one that's left inside that cave you call a chest"
Those three lines. After my opinion the best lines MCR has ever done, maybe next to Gerard's own favourites which are from Out lady of sorrows.
"Oh how wrong we were to think that immortality meant never dying"
Also amazing. It feels like he's almost making up new words. He's giving them a whole new meaning. They make sense.
Love it with all of my body.

Duh.. Every MCR fan knows that Gerard was on a Fairy boat going to New Jersy from New York on September 11 and saw the 2 Twin Towers burn to the ground & Was said to have seen the people jumping out the windows!

*so sad :'[ Hence the Verse "THIS BROKEN CITY SKY, LIKE BUTANE ON MY SKIN".
