Lyrics for Skylines And Turnstiles as interpreted by MooWasHere

Skylines And Turnstiles Lyrics
You're not in this alone
Let me break this awkward silence
Let me go, go on record
Be the first to say I'm sorry
Hear me out.
when if you take me down
or would you lay me out
And if the world needs something better
Let's give them one more reason now

We walk in single file
We light up rails and punch our time
Ride escalators colder than a cell
-Chorus-

This broken city sky like butane on my skin
and stolen from my eyes
Hello Angel tell me where are you
Tell me where we go from here
(Repeat)
And in this moment we can't close the lids on burning eyes
Our memories blanket us with friends we know like fallout vapor
Steel corpses stretch out towards and ending sun scorched and black
It reaches in and rips your flesh apart
With ice cold hands and grabs a hold of your heart
That's if you've still got one that's left inside that cave you call a chest
And after seeing what we saw, can we still reclaim our innocence
And if the world needs something better
Let's give them one more reason now
-Chorus-

And if the world needs something better
Let's give them one more reason now

I find these lines a little problematic. What do they mean? Who is he addressing? Is he being political? It seems like a call to arms to fight the terrorists or somethign.

When he says "Let me go on record, Be the first to say I'm sorry" is he apologising for the western worlds oppression of other countries that led to things like the 9/11 attacks? or something else? Because that seems a little at odds with the later line "let's give them one more reason", it sounds like he's encouraging people to meet aggression with aggression. which is quite an unfashionable thing these days, what with all the political fallout the 9/11 attacks had (Iraq etc), but then this was written close to the actual attack so he can be forgiven for being a little emotional. I don't know.

could you imagine how surreal it must have been to have had the experience of actually seeing those planes hit the twin towers? he had a ringside seat, and because he wasn't physically close, like right one the street to experience the horrific emotional devistation, just visually seeing it, the mental agony of imagining the horror was intensified a trillion times from seeing it on tv. i saw it on tv and was screaming in horror imagining the people dying on impact, the energies of these people dispersing while their bodies disintergrated or crumpled from agonizing pain. i think these lyrics are brilliant. they're metaphoric yet real and simple.

Gerard Way saw 9/11 and wrote this song because he was really upset about it. Fact.

IT IS Connected to the 911 you retards, it's ALL ABOUT the 911. -_-
Gerard has said it himself many times, he wrote the song just after the 911 all on his thoughts about the 911.
Are we clear now?

:D

i think the line "like butane on my skin" might refer to the debris and asbestos that was in the air after the towers collapsed. I think I've heard of how the air was toxic and it burned your skin.

let me go, go on record,
be the first to say im sorry, hear me out,
well if you take me down, would you lay me out, and if the world needs something better,
lets give them one more reason now

gahh learn your stuff. =]

Okay, a lot of the comments here are correct.
It is the first MCR song ever written.
Gerard wanted to do something with his life after he witnessed September 11.
I agree wtih the corrections, too. I hear "reclaim" not "proclaim" and I also think it is "tears" not "rips." The meaning is actually quite evident, with the whole "broken city sky" part. I disagree with the comment on this song being "mediocre." I actually think that, lyrically, it is one of the most powerful and meaningful My Chemical Romance songs written. I find it quite amazing that he can come up with songs like this.

This Was The Beginning For Gerard. He'd Just Watched The Twin Towers Go Down, The Bodies Falling From The Buildings And Though He Needed To Do Something That Would Effect Other Peoples Lives. He Was Wasting His Life Drawing For Cartoon Network, Not Making Any Difference To Peoples Lives Around Him. So He Went Home, And Wrote This In His Basement. Meaningful Song. I Love It.

this makes sense, as this is the first song Gerard wrote after witnessing September 11th. and he says here he wants to be the first to go on recored and say how sorry he is for what's happened.
and the world needs something better, [i.e. no terrorism] and this song and these people by showing there support are giving another reason to stop terrorism.

but that might be wrong...

First things first, the song is indeed about 9/11. While I agree with your comments about rather having no MCR than the incident, I must disagree with the "filthy terrorists" thing. Any small amount of research on the Web will uncover several conspiracy theories about 9/11 and our government– namely, that the government was responsible for 9/11 in the first place. Normally, I do not believe in crazy conspiracy theorists but the evidence for this case is somewhat overwhelming. We are fighting a pointless war for the wrong reasons. Thanks, Bush Admin.

Stepping away from the hot topic of politics, I find this song entirely mediocre. You can really tell it's the first song they've written. Luckily, they got better with practice.

Bash away, haters.

Long live My Chemical Romance and the MCRmy.

this song is about september 11th.~~In 2001, after attending the School of Visual Arts in New York City, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Gerard Way (MCR), In 2001, was working in the comic industry in New York when the September 11 attacks occurred. he was on a ferry and he saw the planes hit, this hit him dramatically inspiring him to write Skylines and turnstiles and form the band My Chemical Romance.

"You're not in this alone
Let me break this awkward silence
Let me go, go on record
Be the first to say I'm sorry
Hear me out"
this part of the song is like when all the countries of the world were saying sorry to us, telling us we had nothing to do with it, and when the people of america were joining together.

"This broken city sky, like butane on my skin
stolen from my eyes
Hello Angel tell me where are you
Tell me where we go from here"
this is talking about the city skyline that you usually see in pictures with the twin towers and the statue of liberty and empire state buliding and how its broken from the destruction of the towers.

about the eyes its talking about how people are crying (burning eyes) but cant turn away even though they dont wanna watch. and the fallout vapor of freinds could be when all the dust from the collapse of the towers blanketed the city and many people collected the dust saying that people were in the dust or just the memories of people act as a blanket to comfort you.

"And after seeing what we saw, can we still proclaim our innocence?"
could be saying that after they did that to us, we must have done something to them, why would they do this for nothing? or maybe just saying that after that moment it took the innocense away from many of us, like me, at age 10, was shocked and horrified and i believe thats the day i grew up and left my innocense.

sorry this is so long but if your gonna say it, say it, dont go half ass.

Correction: instead of "It reaches in and rips your flesh apart" it's "It reaches in and tears your flesh apart."
It's probably really silly, but I'm kind of anal about stuff like that....
And yeah, this song is about 9/11. Gerard Way said it himself.
