You're not in this alone
Let me break this awkward silence
Let me go, go on record
Be the first to say I'm sorry
Hear me out.
when if you take me down
or would you lay me out
And if the world needs something better
Let's give them one more reason now

We walk in single file
We light up rails and punch our time
Ride escalators colder than a cell

-Chorus-
This broken city sky like butane on my skin
and stolen from my eyes
Hello Angel tell me where are you
Tell me where we go from here
(Repeat)

And in this moment we can't close the lids on burning eyes
Our memories blanket us with friends we know like fallout vapor
Steel corpses stretch out towards an ending sun scorched and black
It reaches in and tears your flesh apart
As ice cold hands rip into your heart

That's if you've still got one that's left inside that cave you call a chest
And after seeing what we saw, can we still reclaim our innocence
And if the world needs something better
Let's give them one more reason now
-Chorus-

General Comment:The song is about 9/11. Gee was in new York and saw the whole thing whilst trying to pitch his idea of 'the breakfast monkey' to the cartoon network. Gee wanted to do something arty seeings he has a bachelor degree in fine arts. The whole becoming of mcr was chance... Gee witnessing 9/11 made him change his mind about what he wanted to do with his life, this song ( the bands first) was because of 9/11 therefore without it we probably wouldnt have mcr. Mikey was reading a book at the time with chemical romance in the name and that's how the band got there name. Something so good that has saved so many lives came out of something so horrible. But usually good things, come out of bad situations.

General Comment:I like how a lot of people haven't commented on this one, or any from Bullets. Bullets is still one of my favorite albums, and I remember the first time I listened to this song. I literally got goosebumps from this song, and I still do.

I find these lines a little problematic. What do they mean? Who is he addressing? Is he being political? It seems like a call to arms to fight the terrorists or somethign.

When he says "Let me go on record, Be the first to say I'm sorry" is he apologising for the western worlds oppression of other countries that led to things like the 9/11 attacks? or something else? Because that seems a little at odds with the later line "let's give them one more reason", it sounds like he's encouraging people to meet aggression with aggression. which is quite an unfashionable thing these days, what with all the political fallout the 9/11 attacks had (Iraq etc), but then this was written close to the actual attack so he can be forgiven for being a little emotional. I don't know.

General Comment:could you imagine how surreal it must have been to have had the experience of actually seeing those planes hit the twin towers? he had a ringside seat, and because he wasn't physically close, like right one the street to experience the horrific emotional devistation, just visually seeing it, the mental agony of imagining the horror was intensified a trillion times from seeing it on tv. i saw it on tv and was screaming in horror imagining the people dying on impact, the energies of these people dispersing while their bodies disintergrated or crumpled from agonizing pain. i think these lyrics are brilliant. they're metaphoric yet real and simple.

General Comment:IT IS Connected to the 911 you retards, it's ALL ABOUT the 911. -_-
Gerard has said it himself many times, he wrote the song just after the 911 all on his thoughts about the 911.
    Are we clear now?

    :D

General Comment:i think the line "like butane on my skin" might refer to the debris and asbestos that was in the air after the towers collapsed. I think I've heard of how the air was toxic and it burned your skin.
