ok, well a sandman is a street name for someone who deals heroin, right? well it most likely would have something to do with heroin and the efftects it gives you. there probably other drugs with it too. something that can make you see stuff. idk though

the firm,i dont know what is your fucking problem,but if you dont like metallica,shut da fuck up and go get a fucking new life!it is about fears,in lyrics,it says "its just the beasts under ur bed,in ur closet,IN YOUR HEAD!!!" so it means that people must face their fears!

sonrisa, you might be the dumbest fucking person alive because that's not even close to what the song is about. James Hetfield himself said that "Sandman" is the name he gave to his dirty ass hole when he was 8 years old and that "Enter Sandman" was what he used to shout when his father slid his slimy warty dick up his hole. He wrote this song in remembrance of all the good times he had as a kid, but now his asshole is so loose from threesomes with Lars and Kirk that he doesn't get any joy out of people Entering his Sandman. I heard that the last time someone was forced to have rough anal sex with him that his father's rotting 40 year old "Sand" finally fell out of his asshole and landed all over Rob Trujillo (that's why he joined the band) so now they refer to him as Sandman too.

I can't believe you didn't know that.

I haven't read all of the comments, so I don't know if anyone has noticed this.
During the one part, he says:

That was said in the Halloween movie, the third one I think, the little girl says it before she goes to bed. I don't know if anyone noticed this, but I have always loved Metallica, especially since I have a dad who is obsessed with them, but I recently just did!

this is the first metallica song i ever heard. i wasn't as in too music as i was until i heard this. now i have 8 of their albums. one of my top favorite metallica songs.

I love this song because its the song Virginia Tech runs out to at sporting events. Its insane how loud it gets when this song starts playing, fans start jumping, and the players run out. Best college football tradition ever.

wow..nice explanation illsendyouroses, i'm really impressed. even if metallica probably DID do drugs, this song is NOT about drugs. It's so obvious anyway. It's about a child trying to fall asleep. I don't like to think that every metal song is about drugs or something.

I think that this song is about the deepest fears,thoughts and feelings,that somebody has before he sleeps,especially the kids.However, it could be about drugs...We cannot be quite sure what the artist want to tell us...

My thoughts are this:

Maybe you've heard of the "bogeyman". It was what parents would say to get kids to sleep. But when you think of it, why scare them shitless? They won't sleep if they are afraid to close their eyes. I think "the sandman" is the old "bogeyman". If you wanted to sing a lullaby to put a child to sleep, you wouldn't do it about a scary monster and that's why this heavy metal song was made :P
