u gotta be fucking kidding me, im honestly the first person to comment on this song? This is one the best songs in the history of metal,but not THE best, but still a great song this song, to me, is about a kid who has nightmares the sandman is a mythical person who puts people to sleep anyway, more of u metal heads need to comment on this song, its a GOOD SONG!

I know what this song means. It talks about some of the certain band members addiction with ecstacy and other injectable drugs. The sandman meaning the drug and the dreams are the after effects of the drugs. Personally its one of their more kick ass songs!

This song is not about drugs whatsoever. No memeber of Metallica has even tried drugs. They have always been a strickly alcohol drinking band. Enter Sandman is about the deepest darkest fears of the human mind. It takes a trip through a nightmareish world while being chased by a mysterious figure ready to capture you if your not careful.

Jup I have 2 agree its about the fear a child hs for entering dreamscape, it is so clear in the video as well. Although the explanation of drugs isn't bad it just doesnt fit metallica, but I don't think it is a stupid interpretation of this song at all,

it could easily be a representation of a feeling you get when you are on drugs, and if you say Metallica don't write about drugs you're wrong, Master of Puppets is clearly about drugs, though alot of people think it is about soldiers getting send of to the frontline getting killed for the sake of a nations goverment ((ps sorry if my enlgish aint that good Im Dutch so :D))

truelly this song 's just marvelous. Metallica is one of the most important bands for metal ofcorse, and they prooved it again. By the way...I got nothing against Slipknot but hm metallica is better in a way. maddox86 if u want to tell us ur opinion don't do that by using fuck the whole time, we want to hear reasons why u think so and anyway, everyone his/her own view on music ok

I never heard any of Slipknot's music so i can't say if they're good or sucky, but I'm a huge fan of Metallica and this is still one of my favorite songs today (this is the song that made me like Metallica in the first place) and I don't think any song by anybody (even Slipknot) could replace Enter Sandman

Slipknot is just some generic, dime-a-dozen band that is "angry at the world". Try some originality. Metallica was a ground-breaking band that brought metal to the mainstream. There is no way that any band in the same genre is remotely as great or influencial as Metallica, including today's heavy metal bands.
