Dave rocks! he's an awesome songwritter. All DMB songs are amazing! Another hit, yet again! I get this song stuck in my head all the time. His music sets a comfortable mood for me, and I love getting home and just relaxing to his songs. Go Dave!

I honestly have hated DMB in the past. But with dating my girlfriend for three years it has made sense. No more than now, as we are apart, and I just wish the space between us could be reconciled.

enough B.S.ing. This song, for those of you who actually don't understand it, is about two freinds who like each other and want to go out, but one is afraid. The other (singer) keeps trying to get together and thinks that their relationship will be unavoidable.

this song is okay... it is a lot better when it is played acoutic by just dave. i think that everyday might have been a little better if dave would have written the material himself, without any help from glen ballard. i have t oadmit though they did some okay work though. i still have to say the LWS is and BS will be better than this album...BS far better.

This song, to me, is a story about two people who for some reason are not able to be together and the love they share is forbidden. They lie to keep it secret but feel the fire between each other's soul when they are together. "The wicked lies we tell and hope to keep us safe from the pain" and "All we can do, my love
Is hope we don't take this ship down" They know they can't keep going the way they are, but it's unimaginable to stop...thus "You cannot quit me so quickly". This song has so much meaning...but that is the best jist I can come to! lol. Great song!!! Dave is the shiznit!!!!!! hehehe :O)

well frankly, im rather upset, that you people choose this song to write stuff on...Dave Matthews "Everday" CD isnt what this band is about. Songs like BOWA, LIOG, So Much To Say, Crash, Crush, #41, etc....these are the real great DMB songs. So all you teeny boppers out there who when you heard "I Did It" jump up and down screaming....SHUTUP!!!!

Some people said this song reminded them of an 80s prom queen theme song. Although it's a little bit reminiscent of something old, that's not necessarily bad. Again, I think Dave Matthews' voice just shines through on this particular song. I always thought the "space between" was those times when we forget our troubles and everything's just right. I don't know- correct me if I'm wrong.

I kinda have to go with YouConn on this one...
While nothing on Everyday is by any means BAD, it's not up to the caliber of Dave's usual stuff. Nothing on Everyday can even remotely compare to such DMB classics as Crash Into Me, Satellite, #41, etc. The cd is too... studio. To produced. No song is even over 5 minutes, which is probably a first for a cd of theirs. The fact that it still turned out to be a reletively good cd highlights the band's talent, but it can't compare. On a more positive note, this is one of my favorite songs on Everyday... though not one of my favorite DMB songs overall.

SweetButterfly (posted on May 3) has hit this song right on the money...Two people are in love with one another, but the time isn't right for them to be together, although it may eventually be. (Take the last lines "The Space between your heart and mine is the space we'll fill with time" and also "We're strange allies with warring hearts" is excellent to describe two people commonly not supposed to be together)...They know their love is forbidden, but this can't stop them from loving one another..."The Space Between" is the metaphorical term to describe the amount of time that the two will be apart until they "can" be together...So many lines in this are excellent, but it is sometimes very hard for me to listen to this song...DMB did well with this one...

Selfish fools always think their interpretation of a song is the absolute truth... In truth all of you may be right, and according to those who wrote it, none of you may be right. The beauty of art and music is that it can all be so full of so many different meanings. So, while all people may agree, that may not be what the song was about. And one person who nobody agrees with may be right... In truth nobody is right and nobody is wrong. So many times people overthink and delve into the psyche of their favourite singers, trying to find a more personal meaning when it may be about something so obvious. While one says it's a metaphorical term, it may have originally been intended to be about physical distance. So, enjoy for the sake of enjoyment. Find meaning first in yourself, then in others. A weak man will try to find power in others, a wise man will find power in himself.

I think this song is about two people who are in a relationship teetering on a breakup. They love each other madly, but fight wickedly “the bullets in our firefight”. They know something has to change, or it has to end. “waste the hours with talking talking” refers to working on the problems of the relationship. The space between refers to the space between the fighting. It’s where the love is most evident. It’s what “keeps us coming back for more”. He sings, “The space between the tears we cry is the laughter…”He wants to get the relationship back to the love, to keep “safe from the pain” which is destroying their hope for a future. When he sings, “all we can do, my love is hope we don’t take this ship down” he’s saying he hopes they don’t destroy the relationship with all the B.S. He saying he’s holding onto the best parts of the relationship and he’ll be waiting for her. He wants to take her hand & walk away from the pain and focus on the love and the future.

i feel this is about a tough relationship. two people that are ment for each other but are fighting. one has the whole thing figured out and is waiting for the other. almost as if he is wise beyond his years
