Lyrics for One as interpreted by fennsk

One Lyrics
I can't remember anything
Can't tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel to scream
This terrible silence stops me

Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up I cannot see
That there is not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now

Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, wake me

Back in the womb it's much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But can't look forward to reveal
Look to the time when I'll live

Fed through the tube that sticks in me
Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me

Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, wake me
Now the world is gone, I'm just one
Oh God, help me hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, help me

Darkness imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell

Land mine has taken my sight
Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell

This is one of Metallica's best songs and its brillant. The Green Day issue
is totally bogus, compared to Metallica, Green Day sucks ass.

I love Metallica, and if I had to choose a favorite song of theirs, than "One" would be my choice. I love the fact that it is about a man going into a war. I think this song should be getting alot more popularity now, because of the stupid war with Iraq. It makes sense, don't you think?

'One' by Metallica is number 11 on the top 25 sad songs of all time.

I think this song speaketh the truth, and I don't really like to point this out a lot, but.... Who really cares if a band sells-out, its part of the music industry. I don't really listen to Metallica, in fact, the only songs I've heard are One and Enter Sandman.

But Metallica will always be Metallica.

i really do love the emotion in this song. i've only recently started listening to metallica so really i've obviously the main ones i've heard have been their most popular ones. and i now appreciate that metallica are an amazing band. i know many of you have said that they are not as good now or whatever but to me its never too late to appreciate great music, even if their best or most successful period is over. i do intend on becoming aquanted with more than just the bands well known songs.

This goes in top5 of all metallica songs IMO, and this is also best song in justice album. I think this tells about soldier who stepped on land mine in a useless war in vietnam, as u can hear voice of helicopter at the beginning of the song.

Simply.
Best song of all fucking times. No fucking doubt.
Beats Number of the beast. Beats the gay Painkiller.
Beats the Mozart's Dies Irae. Beats even the Vivaldi's Spring. This fucking song beats de Haendel's Hallelujah itself. The best song in the history of mankind.

Besides being about War, isn't the song also about Euthanasia? the man apparently wanted to die, and the nurse put him to Euthanasia in the end

Hold My Breath as I Wish for Death"

I'm listening to the really heavy part that starts at 4:35. Awesome giutar drumming. Cannibal Corpse should cover that part.

This song is very good, it's the 4th best Metallica song. I like how it starts out being very soft and quiet, and then goes into the furious thrash metal overdrive.

Oh, I almost forgot! The song is about a dude who get's blown up by a landmine, and loses his limbs, and basically everything except the feeling in his skin and the abilty to think. Now he's trapped in total darkeness.

Truly a anguished, powerful, and most unforgetable song. I first heard it at age 11 and it has haunted me ever since. So much so that I obtained a living will which instructs termination of life support if this happened to me. For some reason though I always thought this song was about a vietnam vet who stepped on some kind of makeshift landmine-more like an explosive booby trap. If that were the case it would serve to make this song even more tragic than it already is....

It's obvious the song is based on the film and war but I'm going to go for another meaning as well.

This could be about a person who is also at war with himself. That he's lived a certain life for so long and now that things have changed and his way of life long forgotten things are no longer what they used to be. He is waking up and he can't see what way to go from here.

Society has condemned him for his old ways and looks and he can only feel guilt. Yet he can not conform because his past haunts him. He cannot regonize who he is in a mirror if he was to change. Therefore he is trapped in his own hell. He cannot truly live and he can't take his own life. He is trapped in his own self in a different time period. They've taken his soul and therefore everything else.

Hi guys. i'm writing subtitles to music videos both in English and Turkish. "One" is one of them. Can anyone please explain the following quote from the video:

...... as unthinking as the dead UNTIL THE DAY HE JOINS THEM......

while saying JOIN THEM does the doctor mean JOIN LIFE AGAIN or UNTIL HE DIES ?
