Lyrics for Damage Inc. as interpreted by fennsk

Damage Inc. Lyrics
Dealing out the agony within
charging hard and no one's gonna give in
Living on your knees, conformity
or dying on your feet for honesty
Inbred, our bodies work as onebloody, but never cry submission
Following our instinct not a trend
go against the grain until the end

Chorus:
Blood will follow blood
Dying time is here
Damage Incorporated

Slamming through, don't fuck with razorback
stepping out? You'll feel our hell on your back
Blood follows blood and we make sure
life ain't for you and we're the cure
Honesty is my only excuse
Try to rob us of it, but it's no use
Steamroller action crushing all
Victim is your name and you shall fall

[Chorus]
We chew and spit you out
we laugh, you scream and shout
All flee, with fear you run
You'll know just where we come from

Damage Incorporated

Damage jackals ripping right through you
sight and smell of this, it gets me goin'
Know just how to get just what we want
tear it from your soul in nightly hunt
Fuck it all and fucking no regrets
Never happy ending on these dark sets
All's fair for Damage Inc. you see
step a little closer if you please

[Chorus].

This song sounds to me is about how violence following more violence causes more destruction and damage. HEnce, the name "Damage Inc."

kill yourselves.

the song for me is about fighting for what you believe in. it's liberating and empowering. it's about being an individual... and not posting stupid generic comments that highlight the most literal meaning of a song that you don't understand.

Metalupyourass and atheistmitch, you must understand that not everybody has the ability to read between the lines like you 2 do, if it was I to post the meaning of the song I would say the same thing that the first 2 guys. That's why I don't like deep lyrics.

I thought it was just about destruction and violence too, But the line about Conformity and many referances to Honesty threw me off. So fighting for what you believe in is a great way to interpret it.

Reminds me of all the Conformist bitches around me.

I agree, it's hard to believe how few comment this song gets, it's one of Metallica's best in my opinion.
As for the meaning, I agree with Metalupyourass.

It's just about a big greedy organization, stepping over anyone in order to get richer, bigger, and take over everything.

They manipulate the law so it fits theyr propouses:
"All's fair for Damage Inc. you see"
" Honesty is my only excuse
Try to rob us of it, but it's no use"

"Inbred, our bodies work as one"
Reminds me of a well organized structure with people who do all exactly what they're meant to.

And like all companys they have internal dark secrets, so no one who knows them can leave:
"stepping out? You'll feel our hell on your back"

And that other verse y'all spoke of?
" Living on your knees, conformity
or dying on your feet for honesty"
- it's our way, or the highway

The porpouse is money or some other material gain:
"sight and smell of this, it gets me goin'"

And the rest of the song... just think about it, and it sounds right, specially the chorus:

" Blood will follow blood
Dying time is here
Damage Incorporated"

About greedy people, "king nothing" is the counterpart to this song, as in this song talks about the rush they get doing it, and king nothing is about the downfall of the people who do it.

It's about athoritarian political stances. Metallica highlights them as a corporation, to gie it a heartless feeling. and here's metallica taking on the corporation going "against the grain" and not letting the corporation take they're freedom. they know that the corporation isn't gonna give in but that doesn't stop them.
Everyone note how the corporation is employing razorback, and threatening hell on those who would step out. Razorback, as far as i know is a monster of the apocalipse. so here's the corporation saying that this is your fate if your not with us.
so i see that the corporation is either
A: authoritarian governments
B: the catholic church (for religious stunts and authority attitudes)
C: conformists in general.

This song is a call of non-conformity. The entire album centers around forces, people or powers which dicatate the lives of people and force them to do things against their will. This song, which is at the end of the album, finally calls out for the 'puppet' to cut the strings of the master and take control of their own life by any means necessary, even through revolution and violence. STOP THE OPPRESSION!

It's the last song on Master Of Puppets, and I've always looked at it as a call of nonconformity to cut the strings of the puppet master.

The only way you can rip free from the conformity circle is to take conscience of it, stand up and break the walls of its bower... once you're out of it you will be stupified by the beautiful light of the vast universe that outstretched from that tiny self closed circle. that light will at first hurt your eyes, but when they get used to it's intensity, you can taste the full flavour of life and you can die having lived a worthy existance....
i believe this song tells of how hard it is to struggle out of that limited circle, and fills you in with the importance of fighting to free yourself of the chains of banality to please those who surround you

Awesome song!

I think it's about rebellion.

"Dealing out the agony within"
A group of people have been mistreated for some time and have a lot of agony bottled up, that they are now gonna deal out.

"Living on your knees, conformity
or dying on your feet for honesty"
You might choose to keep living in conformity, but you'll be on your knees. By fighting for what you believe in, you might die, but you will die standing tall.

Notice how the song grows gradually more violent through the verses, exploding with phrases like:
"tear it from your soul in nightly hunt"
in the last verse. This is much like a rebellion, or revolution even. It starts off with a political idea, and just wanting justice. But as things get going, you end up having people getting their heads chopped off in front of a cheering crowd and what not! I'm not very good at history, but I'm not far off if i remember correctly. Another example is Che Guevara's Nazi-like concentration camps!

And I believe the repeated phrase "blood follows blood" indicates how suppression will lead to an even more violent revolution, which will again lead to even more extreme suppression, in effect a vicious circle.

But based on what James said at the MTV Icon, about not having thought too deeply about the lyrics on the earlier albums, it could just be about the four guys not wanting to do what society wants them to, but instead going out to "kick some fucking ass" at concerts! Which they do by the way..

Lars Ulrich and Flemming Rasmussen rock!!
(Yes, I'm danish..)
