Two kinds of battery. The first is the act of beating someone up, assault etc.

The other Battery means both a positive and a negative side to everything. I also hear this song is about the "Old Waldorf Club" or something.

Anyone who has truly experienced rage knows that there is hardly anything more potent and pure than that rush, and they are reminded of that when they hear this song. The song structure itself is a microcosm of the event, with the clean guitar piece in the beginning, escalating to that frenzied riff. Hmmmph, think I'll go out and smash something now...........

i think this about rage. When you're in rage, you forget about everything, only beat, destroy etc. Everything exept the chorus is about this ("smashing non-believers"-beat everybody who isn't your oppinion)

This is a great song of power and energy and i love the intro with the 3 guitars, the way they make those little riffs blend together into one awesome intro astounds me.

Battery helped define the Master of Puppets album, and is still a Tallica fan fav. I love the raging guitar riffs and the solo on this. Whoever thought beating people up could be so much fun?

I loved the S&M version of this song, the melodic, almost hispanic, introduction and then into the powerful super-fast guitar rhythms.
James Hetfield will kill me if he reads this, but Battery reminds me of Slayer. lol.

Fuckin hell, I'll be the first to admit that it's an overwhelming source of energy when one is in a rage, as i have been there, but it ain't all fun and games. I spent 1 1/2 years in a Malaysian Prison for that shit... and i got off lightly!!!!! Spend all your time lookin over ya shoulder makin sure no one's gonna turn ya into a bitch. There are DIRE consequences to these actions. Hence the NEGATIVE terminal of a battery.... some people need to grow up

the truth is, metallica rarely uses metaphors in their pre-black albums days (the first 4 cds being the only ones worth listening to). when people were analyzing "One", saying that it was about his mother's struggle with cancer, James replied, "Fuck, I just wanted to write a song about a guy that stepped on a land mine." most of their stuff is pretty straight forward, which leads me to believe that this song is about androids, cyborgs, robots, whatever you want to call them, sort of Terminator-esq. type thing. but what do i know im just a stupid punk rock kid.
