Lyrics for Walk On as interpreted by Novartza

Walk On Lyrics
And love
Is not the easy thing
The only baggage
That you can bring
Not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring
Is all that you can't leave behind

And if the darkness is to keep us apart
And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off
And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh no, be strong

Walk on
Walk on
What you got, they can't steal it
No they can't even feel it

Walk on
Walk on
Stay safe tonight

You're packing a suitcase for a place
None of us has been
A place that has to be believed
To be seen

You could have flown away
A singing bird
In an open cage
Who will only fly
Only fly for freedom

Walk on
Walk on
What you got
You can't deny it
Can't sell it or buy it

Walk on
Walk on
You stay safe tonight

And I know it aches
How your heart it breaks
You can only take so much

Walk on
Walk on

Home
Hard to know what it is
If you never had one

Home
I can't say where it is
But I know I'm going

Home
That's where the hurt is

And I know it aches
And your heart it breaks
You can only take so much
Walk on

Leave it behind
You've got to leave it behind

All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break

All that you measure
All that you feel
All this you can leave behind

All that you reason
All that you care

It's only time
And I'll never fill up all my mind(???)

All that you sense
All that you scheme
All you dress up
And all that you see

All you create
All that you wreck
All that you hate

OMG! The first time I ever heard this song, I cried. I know it's really about that Burmese person under house arrest, but my little interpretation made the song so dear to my heart. My interpretation is just going through the agony and pain of things in life, then just learning ot just go on with it. The best set of lyrics on this song are "And I know it aches/And your heart it breaks/and you can only take so much"...how can that NOT make you feel something?! And Edge's little riff at the end sounds so hopeful and reassuring that things will get better.

I think this song is about the hardships you will go through in life. Pain is inevitable but suffering is not. It is telling you that no matter what happens you need to be strong and stick to you morals. "Walk on" when things get rough and don't let these speed bumps get in your way. This is a truely amazing song... yet another one from and incredible band.

This song is about heaven:
"And love
Is not the easy thing
The only baggage
That you can bring
Not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring
Is all that you can't leave behind"

Love is the only thing you can take with you(to heaven)-it's all that you can't leave behind.

"You're packing a suitcase for a place
None of us has been
A place that has to be believed
To be seen"
None of us have been right, or we wudn't be here now!!!! Heaven has to be believed in to be seen, you have to beleive in god and be a chrisitan to go to heaven.

Know what i mean, it all makes sense really, when u listen to it! ;)

dta2k8 your wrong, this song is not talking about heaven, he it's talkin about dying, about not really wondering what is going to happen to us when we die, about living this moment happy (Walk on) and in the last moment of our live say it was all worth while.

I think if anyone knew U2 and the spiritual journey they have been embarking on for the last 20 years, then you would truly know what this song is about. I agree with dta2k8 in saying that this song is about heaven. Many times when the play this song live, at the end the Edge and Bono sing a chorus of Hallelujahs. This song is about going through the pain of life but being able to withstand it because of what we have to look forward to in the afterlife. "home i cant see where it is but i know im going".

Um, if anyone knew anything about U2 they'd know that the song was written expressly about the work of Aung San Suu Kyi, the human rights activist and rightly elected president of Burma who was actually recently released from the house arrest under which the military junta currently running the country had placed her. Just saying.

I dont care what this song is about because it is so good it doesnt have to have a meaning. It reminds me of all the times that I need to get away I love this song and it makes me wanna cry. I also think of 9/11 and It is such a good song that I cried at the concert in front of everyone

Leuvenite is right about what the song was written about, but I've said it before-I'll say it again...the beauty of U2's lyrics is that you can take them any way you like and take them your own way and in your own meaning. With Bono's songs, there isn't necessarily only one meaning.

But yes, leuvenite is right. They did write it in dedication to Aung San Suu Kyi, who's name is even mentioned in the booklet for All that you Can't leave Behind.

Nothing to Lose needs to stop polluting these beautiful songs by its presence.

this definitely reminds me of 9/11 because of the coverage video they made, it was so sad but it helped. besides that, it is just a powerful song.

this song may have been inspired by Pink Floyd's eclipse, but the fact remains that this song is better- ps everyone needs to stop whining about 9/11

you bring up a good point etsp86, but the point is Pink Floyd is still cooler than U2, though U2 is definetly up there. it was probably inspired by it though. besides, look at the date when i wrote it, i didnt like U2 too much back then during my Floyd fluffing days

This song came exactly when I needed it. Im sure you guys have felt the same with a U2 song. It comes when you are going through certain situation and the lyrics and music are close to what you are feeling in your personal life.
I also agree that the best part is when it says "and I know it aches and your heart it breaks, and you can only take so much..walk on". After my parents separation, I had to move to another city and suddenly my life changed completely, but as it was painful, it was necessary because the situation at home was really bad, so this song really encouraged me to go on with my life and face all those changes. 3 years after, I still cry when I hear this song.

This song has great feeling in it.... Best U2 song ever. I can totally just see him singin this to some lost girl... he uses great metaphorical language, and yes, I can see this relating to Heaven... but I doubt that it is that deep... maybe he just wants us to "walk on" during our trials....
