  General Comment:Jimithing was the name of his first pipe. Whenever he'd wanna lite up he'd smoke out of his jimithing. he said this in one of his earliest interviews.

  General Comment:this song is really powerful and takes a number of different meanings for me in my life depending on what is going and i think that is what is so great about it. It's broad enough to apply and be interpreted in so many ways. what gets me every time and what made me fall in love with the song is "what i want is what ive not got but what i need is all around me." I think we all can learn a lesson from that, especially myself personally, and i think that is one of the most powerful messages to be taken from this.

  General Comment:This song is about marijuana - mainly. It could be about any drug really - or for that matter any desire to feel different and have an alternative to reality.
  
  This is one of my favorite songs by Dave live. I love some of the lines - "What I want is what I've not got" - It's when you don't have any weed and someone else does but they don't offer you any.
  
  Also, going on a drug run - I doubt Dave or any of us in our 30's & 40's do this anymore - really - but "sometimes he'll walk, take a bus, take a taxi" - back in the day when we were 20 years old and we didn't have established residence or money - getting some mary-jane was a royal pain in the ass sometimes. This song is pretty old so I imagine it refers to Dave's more youthful, less famous - more drugged days.
  
  That's my two cents - Now pass me the jimi thing and keep me floating - for a while...

  General Comment:I LOVE jimi thing. This song is soo relaxing and instantly chills me out. To me...this song is about getting high, and only sometimes do I think it's about sex. I can see where it could be interpreted as that...but I really like the getting high part better. ;)

  General Comment:well i think this song is talking about more than one thing. dave loves singing about love so i think love/sex is being sung about, as well as my personal favorite marijuana. i had heard this song sober 1,000,000 times and then i heard it baked and it was a spiritual experience. beautiful music!

  General Comment:oh man i hate to get negative here but some people on here just make things based on what they want the song to mean, and some of the interpretations are just straight up braindead because they're mind isn't in the right place. That said, i'll give a crack. In contrast to minxi, Dave's sexual inuendo's are only read like that to you because that is where you mind is at. Please don't discredit DM for being filth, as most if not all of his songs are in relation to God and the dellemma of believing.

  Is all around me (the tendancy we have to wanting things and driving ourselve's mad because of it which is unwarrented because God is everywhere)

  Till I get to the end of this tunnel Mommy (a reference to God and floating via the guidence of Mother Mary to the light at the end of tunnel for which he sees a divine fix for his troubles)

  I'll get back to you (get back to sanctity, to himself, to God)
  
  Sometimes a Jimi Thing slides my way and keeps me swinging (Jimi thing is (i bet you some think this is too obvious) but a reference to a Jimmy, with witch you pry things open with. therfor it keeps him swinging (read- same as when he says floating)
  I'd like to show you what's inside
  And I shouldn't care
  If you don't like it (is timid when he's excepting God because he's afraid sometimes that people won't like that idea of him believing)
  Brother chaos rule all about (chaos rules in todays society where God is rejected)
  Sometimes I walk there
  Well yes God knows sometimes I take a bus there (sometimes (after he's pride open his mind and thus starts excepting God again) he can get to where he wants to be spiritual sometimes quickly sometimes slowly)

  Bereaved as I'm feeling (as desolate and empty as he's feeling he's struggling with caring what people might think)

  Staring up at the ceiling (another dilemma of not being able to stay in the place he wants to be)

  Better for a small time (using artificial problem solving which he knows isn't the solution to his problems)
