Oh well oh well so here we stand
But we stand for nothing
My heart calls to me in my sleep
How can I turn to it
'Cause I'm all locked up in this
Dark place -
And I do not know
I'm as good as dead
My head aches -
Warped and tied up
I need to kill this pain

My head won't leave my head alone
And I don't believe it will
Until I'm dead and gone
My head won't leave my head alone
And I don't believe it will
Until I'm six feet underground

How long I'm tied up
My mind in knots -
My stomach reels
In concern for what I might do or
What I've don
It's got me living in fear
Well I know these voices must
Be my soul
I've had enough I've had enough of being alone
I've got no place to go

My head won't leave my head alone
And I don't believe it will
Until I'm dead and gone
My head won't leave my head alone
And I don't believe it will
Until I'm six feet under ground

Six feet under
In y grave
Lying wired and shut and quiet in my grave
Leave me here
Leave me here to waste here
So young and here I am again
Talking to myself
A T.V. blares
Oh man
Oh how I wish I didn't smoke
Or drink to reason with my head

But sometimes this thick confusion
Grows until I cannot bear it at all
Needle to the vein
Needle to the vein
Take this needle from my vein my friend
I said

My head won't leave my head alone
And I don't believe it will
Until I'm dead and gone
My head won't leave my head alone
And I don't believe it will
Until I'm dead and gone

In my grave
Lying
Lying cold in my grave
The reason -
My reason
Take my head off this terror
The fearing won't come back
I can't see
My mind's all wiped clean
The needle
Make my great escape
I seem caught in time
My head leaves me behind
Body fall cold
And I see heaven

fact: this song is about dave and his addiction to heroin: "But sometimes this thick confusion Grows until I cannot bear it at all Needle to the vein"

             "My mind's all wiped clean
              The needle
              Make my great escape"

also he close to the beginning he says his head won't leave him alone until he's six feet under (meaning dead), and then in the last "verse" of the song he says he's lying in his grave because of the terror in his head that would be fixed when he was high, but continuing to do heroin could lead him to his grave.

I agree, I think this song expresses something that goes deeper than drugs, because it says he wishes that he didn't smoke or rink to reason with it. he says the voices in his head were his soul, so it might be an effect of his obvious struggle with his faith.

I've been addicted to drugs, I love this song because it explains that addictions never really go away. It explains the pain you go through for your entire life after having an addiction. I mean my head won't leave my head alone is a key phrase if you've ever been trying to tell yourself why you know it's better not to do drugs, but you really can't get over the feeling that you need to. I wish I didn't smoke or drink to reason with my head... I mean there are so many things you do to avoid the real problem and thats a perfect example. But I also know when he says needle to the vein, needle to the vein, please take this needle from my vein my friend, it is him asking for help, but it could be from god, a friend, anyone or thing really. I also enjoy that live he sometimes change that to please leave this needle IN my vein because you can't win every battle, and that's the real war with an addiction.

My head won't leave my head alone And I don't believe it will Until I'm dead and gone My head won't leave my head alone And I don't believe it will Until I'm six feet underground ( When I hear this part of the song I know exactly how this man feels, for I feel the same way. Your addictions are always in the back of your head talking to you, trying to get you to go do them, and sometimes it wins the battle. Plus no matter how long you are away from drugs they are always on your mind, and they most likely won't leave until you die, especially since according to this song it seems like the drugs are winning the battle over Dave, and since that is the case he will always let his head get him to do drugs, and this will be his demise.)

I BELIEVE THIS IS DAVES DARKEST SONG! For one I don't know if this is a song which strictly deals with ther struggle of addiction, but whether Dave struggling with something, (death of his sister Anne, and or his father) and then turning to drugs, to forget. I think the lines towards the end are "the needle, she is my great escape" not makes my great escape. meaning This is what he turns to in order to escape from his unrelenting painful thoughts. Or atleast in some live versions I am sure this is what he says. Ps I love when he switches it up to please leave this needle in my vein my friend, like he is asking for one more time, like he desperately needs it.

"My head won't leave my head alone and I don't believe it will 'till I'm six feet underground." That's my favorite part of the song. You're restless every second of your life till you're dead and gone. He's talking about the peace you achieve when you die.

This song is straight up about thinking too much and using drugs or alcohol to control it.

It also is MY FAVORITE Dave Matthews song!!!

this song is about the negative sides of drug abuse and what can happen to your body...all he's looking for is a little help through it..."But sometimes this thick confusion Grows until I cannot bear it at all, Needle to the vein Needle to the vein, Take this needle from my vein my friend, I said..."

The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
