Swing in this tree
Oh I am bounce around so well
Branch to branch,
limb to limb you see
All in a day's dream
I'm stuck
Like the other monkeys here
I am a humble monkey
Sitting up in here again
But then came the day
I climbed out of these safe limbs
Ventured away
Walking tall, head high up and singing
I went to the city
Car horns, corners and the gritty
Now I am the proudest monkey you've ever seen
Monkey see, monkey do

Then comes the day
Staring at myself I turn to question me
I wonder do I want the simple, simple life that I once lived in well
Oh things were quiet then
In a way they were the better days
But now I am the proudest monkey you've ever seen
Monkey see, monkey do
Monkey see, monkey do

General Comment:You may all think this is a nice song, but i was just listening to a concert (6-24-2008) and he says the monkey he talks about is a monkey he saw in South Africa. He then continues how he saw this money with a blue penis and a boner smacking his boner against the tree. He was with his mom and sister who thought it was hilarious but he personally thought it was disturbing...love this guy's hidden meanings haha

General Comment:this song is about the band itself, before he played this in virginia he talked about how this band is similiar to the band, they used to be small and when they hit it big they became different but now they were back in virginia were they began, ALL YOU FUCKERS DONT KNOW SHIT ABOUT DMB, STOP THINKING ALL HIS SONGS ARE ABOUT LOVE AND PEACE, AND STOP THINKING EVERY SONG RELATES TO YOU PERFECTLY, YOUR ALL NUT RIDERS WHO DONT KNOW SHIT!

General Comment:I loooove this song soo much. I remember one time before he played he said he liked the idea of coming from monkeys rather then coming from some chick or some dude. Dave is too amazing for words I swear.

General Comment:I don't know why you are all debating if we came from monkeys or not ....how about has anyone heard of curious george.... the stigma of a monkey is it's curious... just like young adults or even teeanagers and some adults who are still forming into who they are...

    simple as that.

General Comment:Have you ever heard the live version of this from 4.30.1996? Dave provides his thoughts during the intro of the song...

"so this song i used to think this song was kind of about uh, how we used to be bent over uh...like monkey's at least our grandparents were a long time ago. cuz although whether or not you believe it or don't believe it i like the idea that we come from trees or monkey's more than i do from some chick and some dude.

but then it sort of turned into maybe kind of a song about this band too cuz we went from good ol virgina then we start runnin around the place."

General Comment:I think the Pride mentioned in this song is more along the lines of false hubris. The "monkey see monkey do" line to me always had the ring of sarcasm, that all the things we do in our modern lives are really just taking on societies values (consumerism, working 9 to 5, monagomy, religion, war) and it was better when life was simple, swinging in the trees. Not that we can go back. But we have to reevaluate and rebalance our lives and remember where we come from. I think this is a theme in a lot of Dave's songs actually.

General Comment:I was wondering if anyone knows why the second line is said in such a strange way. I think it's maybe representing him as a person who didn't really understand much about life.
