Lyrics for Don't Worry Baby as interpreted by Bobo192

Don't Worry Baby Lyrics
Well its been building up inside of me
For oh I don't know how long
I don't know why
But I keep thinking
Something's bound to go wrong

But she looks in my eyes
And makes me realize
And she says "Don't worry baby"
Don't worry baby
Don't worry baby
Everything will turn out alright

Don't worry baby
Don't worry baby
Don't worry baby

I guess I should've kept my mouth shut
When I started to brag about my car
But I can't back down now because
I pushed the other guys too far

She makes me come alive
And makes me wanna drive
When she says "Don't worry baby"
Don't worry baby
Don't worry baby
Everything will turn out alright

Don't worry baby
Don't worry baby
Don't worry baby

She told me "Baby, when you race today
Just take along my love with you
And if you knew how much I loved you
Baby nothing could go wrong with you"

Oh what she does to me
When she makes love to me
And she says "Don't worry baby"
Don't worry baby
Don't worry baby
Everything will turn out alright

Don't worry baby
Don't worry baby
Don't worry baby

The song's title, according to this passage, comes from Marilyn's comforting words to Brian.

"Which left Marilyn, the most silicitous of the sisters, the most practical, the most willing to mother me. Marilyn had a sense of warmth the others didn't, and when my soul needed unburdening, I sought her out".
"Don't Worry Baby," she cooed, "everything will work out".

...

"What did you think [of Spector's Be My Baby]?"
"It blew my mind, that's what I thought" I said. "I mean, holy shit, I can't do that! Not that great, not ever".
"Don't worry baby," she said, rubbing my neck, "You will. You'll do something that great".

One afternoon we were driving around in my new aquamarine Grand Prix when the DJ spun a brand new Spector produced platter, the Ronettes' "Be My Baby". I had to pull over.
"Oh my god. this song is the best song I've ever heard."
Marilyn didn't know what to make of me. I really lost my head during the chorus. Listening intently, I was amazed at what I heard... Would I be able to think of anything similar?

This is a relaxing/reassuring song by nature but it does it so well. Sometimes simplicity just says it the best. Brian Wilson has to be one of my all time favorite writers and this song completely reminds me why. Just makes me want to curl up with that special someone (who lives so far away).

Just thought I'd out that this (fantastic) song is about a car race. Brian Wilson was/is heavily into cars and all that 50s racing stuff. Basically the guy in the song brags about his car and gets himself into a race he doesn't wanna be in, then it's his girlfriend telling him 'Don't Worry Baby'.

a few weeks ago, my friend was really worried over some weird shit going on this year which made him worry I wouldn't come to see him like I do every year, and he sent me this song. well, I ADORE THIS TUNE, I don't know why I didn't already have this song in the first place, but anyway, i wish I could have sung this to him at the time, because it was so sweet how he was so afraid I wouldn't come...all i wanted to do was tell him not to worry and be able to make him feel more at ease.

long story short, i wound up going.. and now whenever i listen to this song, he's what i think of. it seems i'm always soothing people and telling them not to worry, maybe i'll just start singing this song to them instead! guess it's one of my theme songs in the way that i'd be the chick telling the guy not to worry, haha.

the beach boys are awesome, and not just because they love california girls like me. =P

In addition to all of the other readings of this song, it is also slightly sinister. The narrator is obviously afraid of what will happen in the race, seen in the lyrics "I don't know why/But I keep thinking/Something's bound to go wrong." The girl, who is similar to Lady Macbeth, pushes him to race, despite his trepidation. He bragged about his car, which has brought him to a perilous situation. There is a feeling that he would like to get out of the race, and yet he seems resigned, because his girlfriend keeps repeating “Don’t worry, baby,” which simultaneously assures him and reminds him of his fears.

Possibly the most troubling sequence of this song is the verse, “She told me ‘Baby, when you race today/Just take along my love with you/And if you knew how much I loved you/Baby nothing could go wrong with you.’" In this, she has nothing to lose. If he races and manages to stay alive, it is because her love has carried him through. If he dies, it is because he did not trust enough in his love for her.

In this song, the narrator is very weak willed. He gets bullied into a race by people who were offended by his bragging about his car, and he stays in the race to please his girlfriend, and becomes the manifestation of her own social ambitions.

This song was possibly the first indication of the sophisticated storytelling that Brian Wilson was capable of, through a combination of lyrics, orchestration, and vocal harmonies. It is a far cry from early Beach Boys songs of just a few years earlier, which had to lift Chuck Berry riffs to get airplay.

I disagree so strongly with your (misogynistic?) reading of this song, Bad Teeth, that I can't even begin to express it.

I first heard this song at the end of Never Been Kissed, and I thought it sounded so sweet and beautiful. In fact, the poignant vocals made me cry because they reminded me of the way my boyfriend always reassures me whenever I'm freaking out about something. Although I don't agree with Bad Teeth that the girl has ill intentions (maybe a great deal of naivete would be more accurate), in a way the song does remind the listener of whatever he or she is worrying about. In my case, it made me miss my guy even more. Still, the song gets a lot of credit for being able to wring that much emotion out of me!

I don’t mind if you disagree with my reading of this song, but if you do, please provide some evidence. The David Brent-esque argument that it is “(misogynist)” doesn’t wash. Misogyny is the hatred of women in general. My reading is a critique of both of the particular people imagined in the song, as well as their relationship in the world portrayed within that song. I did not insult or disagree with any of the readings that were not my own. I think it’s perfectly fine to have fond memories of a song and limit comments to enjoying those memories. It’s a beautiful and multilayered song, and I was merely providing a reading, not asking for an insult.

I do think that the Beach Boys are more sophisticated than most artists of their period, and at the time of this song more in control of musical art than even the Beatles, and I choose to enjoy their songs by thinking about the possible meanings within the song as well as having an emotional response to them. I was only thinking that some people would enjoy an alternative reading, and I do hope that some people did.

"And if you knew how much I love you baby, nothing could go wrong with you"

That line is PERFECT...he's one of those people that if something bad were to happen to them you wouldn't know what to do with yourself.
So it just can't.

It is the most beautiful song the Beach boys have ever done. It almost makes me cry with its gorgeous harmonies. My dad first introduced this song to me when I was a little girl. This song holds so much emotion...

For whatever reason I think the 'golden era' Beach Boys sound the best on this song in every aspect... when they come in after the drumbeat opening it just melts you. It's like liquid summer. What a magnificent song.

PS: The Beach Boys are better than all of the Phil Spector produced groups put together, so Brian didn't have to worry afterall.

This is something definitely Medieval romantic about this song... It could have been a song about a knight going off to fight the Crusades, or seeking the Holy Grail.

I can just imagine a perfume-scented scarf tied to the steering wheel... Death would have had no terrors for a guy racing for the love of his girl.

Basically He loves her so much he wants to be braver and better, which is what love is like. And sometimes you just wanna hear that it's all gonna be ok... and when someone you are so in love with says that, you feel like there are the only person in the world, and nothing else matters, and you know they are right.

Aside from Kokomo, this was the first song I truly paid attention to by The Beach Boys. A video of the song played one day on VH1 Classic a few years ago, and that pretty much started my partial interest in the Beach Boys. Fast forward to last year and my true interest, now near obsession began. I really want to write like Brian Wilson, which may be all but impossible, but this song is absoultely perfect...If I ever managed to make something this good once, I would probably never compose again.

I first heard this when good ol' Donnie G gave that beautiful tribute to his wife, Freda. It was so beautiful, I just fell in love with this record. I hope you've found peace Don Geronimo.

Whenever I hear this song.... It just takes me to a better place.

My favourite song ever. So much than just a car song...as a result of bragging to his friends about his car he has ended up saying he will take part in a car race of which he is nervous about "I keep thinking that something's bound to go wrong". But the comforting refrain of his lover's "Don't worry baby" is getting him through. When she tells him not to worry, something in him wants to take part in the race because knowing that she loves him makes him want to be braver and better.

This is one of the most beautiful / amazing songs ever made. In a very drug induced state I once said of the song "if angels came down from heaven to see you, this would be playing in the background" and I still stand by that.

Oh what she does to me
When she makes love to me
And she says "Don't worry baby"

As amazing as the first time you ever hear it, if not more. Genius
