I'm waiting In my cold cell
When the bell begins to chime
Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time
'Cause at five o'clock they take me to the gallows pole
The sands of time for me are running low

Motherfuckers!

Running low

When the priest come's to read me the last rites
I take look through the bars at the last sights
Of a world that has gone very wrong for me

Can it be that there's some sort of error
Hard to stop the surmounting terror
Is it really the end not some crazy dream

Somebody please tell me that I'm dreaming it's not easy to stop from screaming
But words escape me when I try to speak
Tears they flow but why am I crying after all I'm not afraid of dying
Don't believe that there never is an end

As the guards march me out of the courtyard
Someone calls from a cell:"God be with you"
If there's an god why has he let me die!

As I walk through the drifts before me
And though the end is near I''m not sorry
Catch my soul 'cause it's willing fly away

Mark my words believe my soul lives on
Please don't worry now that I have gone
I've gone beyond to seek the truth

When you know that your time is at close hand
Maybe then you begin to understand why

General Comment:I love Iron Maiden and all of their music, but the fans on this site are arrogant elitists with a shallow outlook on music. This is an incredibly well composed song and was performed in a gripping almost cinematic way. You not only get the incredible content, but Cradle really put the emotion in this cover to new heights. This is an incredible adventure that puts you in the shoes of a man persecuted. Major props to Cradle of Filth for capturing the soul of this incredible song.

General Comment:i love maiden but i also love heavier bands like CoF. i think that dani does a really good version of the song but i still think maidens version is better, i think cuz of the bass, if u ever see steve harris live he can play the bass a million times better than anyone else i dont even know how its possible for his fingers to hit all the notes.
as for the meaning i think its about the condemned man but could also be about a mans metaphor for life i heard it was bout harris' feelings bout his own life

General Comment:Maiden deserves full credit for creating an amazing intro to the song and bruce does sing the opening verse better than dani. But from then on its all COF. Dani nailed the next few verses in a freakin awsum way and i guess bruse wud hav been proud. I mean it sounds perfect for this song.

General Comment:Oh and by the way Lord abortion, why would Bruce Dickinson want to sound like Dani or what ever, that guy is a non talent, just ask anyone who knows music. It is just not right to compare Guys who can sing and guys who cant. Even Black Metal fans know that Black Metal singers like Dani can not sing.

Oh, and to solo is not very good in this cover, its very short and very sloppy. And dont even get me started o the base. Just dont compare bands like this to Metal gods like Maiden, its just sick.

General Comment:I really dont see how anyone could say this is better the the original, the vocals on this version are crap. The Instrumentals are pretty good but Bruce Dickinson is God. Its just odd that anyone could say that this is better then the original. If you have any ear for good music you will know that the original is far better.

General Comment:One of the best covers i have ever heard, Iron Maiden might have created the song and done a damn good job, but Dani's vocals.. just gave it so much more meaning. when i listened to them both Iron Maiden's vocals sound so empty, Dani did one hell of a job on this song.

General Comment:this song rocks far better then the maiden original, but maiden still has my heart.

anyways, the song is about a man coming to terms with his own mortality, he knows he is to die, his days have been numbered, weather he did or did not commit the crime is left for the listeners to decide. he does not believe in an eternity that is commonly believed in, i think he believed in some kind of reincarnation when he states that he does not believe that there ever is an end, that statement obviously shows that he does not believe in going to an actual "Heaven or Hell" he feels that he will continue to exist after death. therefore he really doesn't care what they think or do.
