Well, you say that I treat you
Like a book on a shelf
I don't take you out that often
Because I know that I completed you
And that's why you are here
That's the reason you stay here
How awful that must feel

You said you'd be my dream
I could have you every night
And if by morning I'd forgotten you
Well, no big deal, that'd be all right
Because you're the reoccuring kind
You are the reoccuring kind
You never really leave my mind

Are you the love of my lifetime
Because there's been times I've had my doubts
We were just kids when I first kissed you
In the attic of my parents' house
And I wish we were there now
I took so long to figure out
What this book has been about

Now I write when I'm away
Letters that you'll never read
You said, "Go explore those other women
The geography of their bodies
But there's just one map you'll need
You're a boomerang you'll see
You will return to me

Well, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will, you will

Because if you don't, then this book's all lies
If you don't, then my plans would all be ruined
If you don't, I'll start drinking like the way I drank before
And I just won't have a future anymore"

General Comment:I think this song is about Conor's childhood sweetheart Neely Jenkins (singer in Tilly and the Wall). Here's a picture of them in what looks like a basement. fucknoiserock.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/… They were in the band Park Ave. together and grew up in Omaha.

Conor can never truly love Neely because he will always feel as if there is something, or someone, better out there. He feels a sense of comfort with her like he knows she will always be there. She is a piece of him and reminds him of his past, almost like being with her is nostalgic. Neely is sure of her love for Conor and feels a false sense of confidence in his love for her. Neely will always be a part of Conor, like a book on his shelf of life, tucked away and revisited from time to time.

General Comment:This song is extremely simple in structure and narrative, I do not see how it's different point of views or complex in the nature which some have tried to make it.

    This is what can be extracted out of the lyrics;

A guy is an asshole to his girlfriend.
    She sort of leaves him.
He sort of blames her and keeps being an asshole to her (second, third and half of the fourth verse).
Then, in the last section of the fourth verse, he's sort of denying or repressing the fact that she left him; pointing out that she will come back to him.
And the last part's are the doubt's and anxiety that she'll perhaps not come back.

There's no reason to make it more complex than this. It's very straightforward and do not display any impressing mastery of words or any of that sort. It's actually surprisingly prosaic.

However, what makes this song good is that it taps into the nature of relationship between couples, when couples are just at the verge of disassociation, having broke up several times and gotten back together. But there's always that one break up that feels too real, like it's really over. And sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't and this is what this song expresses; the uncertainty of the future between people even though one might think that it'll be all right, there something intuitivly saying that it wont.

General Comment:In the second verse, I think he says "what are you - occurring kind? you never really leave my mind"

General Comment:i think i've experienced just about everything in this song and it all makes perfect sense to me in my own way. the way you? will is written is like saying it as an order,in complete certainty, but then reading it backwards is like will you? as if in the back of your mind your feeling a little unsure. i like the fact you can't tell whos saying what with the quotations not being clear because i think it doesnt really matter, and theyre both probaly feeling the same way. its about two people who know everything about eachother and experienced all they could with them, but maybe met eachother too early and wanting to experience other relationships and youth in general more before staying with that one person.its like making a pact with eachother and about having that one person which equals everything you want from another person and being scared that if you leave for a while they might not be waiting/they won't return. the girl is so sure he'll return to her that she tells him to do what he likes, but she'll always be there as a constant reminder of who he wants most. i think they had a story so great that it needs a perfect ending and are probaly seduced by the thought of that, and thinking about the future instead of just going with it. for a song thats gets more and more certain and sure as it goes along, i think its more a song of uncertainty and hope.

General Comment:I think that when he, well actually "she", poses it as a question in the You Wills, i think she's kind of second guessing him. kind of like "You'll come back. You will. Right? You'll come back right!?" is it just me or does that make sense!? She knows he'll be back, but she doesn't know how long it'll take until he returns.

I'm not sure. The way he sings is kind of contradictory to it. He sings it like he's 100% sure.

    I don't know. just a thought.

General Comment:At first when I saw the title of this song I was like "wow, that's strange," but I think it's so clever. I love that it can be taken as "you will," as in telling the girl he's talking to in the song that she will return to him, but it can also be taken as a question of "will you?"

    Double-meaning.

    1) The guy is done with her. He finished the book (aka their romance). He only bothers to relive it when convenient for him, most likely in a booty-call kind of way.

    2) He completes her, and that's why she stays. He knows he fulfills her, so he doesn't have to bother with giving her the attention she deserves. He can take her for granted.

She's aware of both things, but believes one day he'll love her the way she loves him. One day, when he's done with his other women, she believes/deludes herself into believing that he will return to her.
