Sweet is the sight of her room
window open by candle light
how would you know

cold winter on the shore chills the dress she wore
it's on the floor
still it feels so warm today

and that's why i'm wondering why
you had to tell me what's going on in your head
what's wrong
come around to another time when you don't have to run

and when she says she wants somebody else
i hope you know she doesn't mean you
and when she breaks down and makes a sound
you'll never hear her the way that i do
and when she says she wants someone to love
i hope you know that she doesn't mean you
and when she breaks down and lets you down
i hope you know that she doesn't mean you

swing into flight
over hills, over her hills it's twilight
yeah, i guess that's right now
while we're here tell me why it's so funny that you're so funny when you're mad
cause it's mad, so mad

I can personally relate to this song. Me and my ex just broke up a few months ago after a really long relationship. She has this new boyfriend and it just kills me to think about them together. I know i'm the right one for her..but just wish she knew. Her new boyfriend is a total jerk and the only reason he likes her is because of the way she looks. I love her for her, inside and out. And i think that is exactly what this song is trying to convey.

That's a great way of looking at the song. I was thinking about that, but I think it could also be about a guy whose best friend is a girl and he is singing this song to her boyfriend because he feels that their friendship and his love for her is so much stronger than the existing bond between her and her boyfriend.

I think you all are missing the first part... about the room and dress. Obviously the song is about two guys, but I think it's about a new love telling an ex love off. "And while we're here tell me why it's so funny that you're so funny when you're mad "

That's my opinion. Either way, I love this song and it reminds me of my situation.

    My Interpretation

By looking at the video for this song it's obvious that the narrator is singing to his ex girlfriend's new guy. But my own personal interpretation is different. I see the narrator as the girl's current boyfriend and he is singing this song to his girlfriend's ex.

It's as if the ex boyfriend has been bugging and sniffing around his ex partner because he's interested in her again. Feeling a little insecure about the situation, the current boyfriend sings this song to tell her ex to back off and also to reassure himself that he is the one his girlfriend wants to be with.

Everyone here seems to be focusing on the chorus and/or the end of the song, probably because the beginning of the song is ambiguous.

"Cold winter on the shore chills the dress she wore It's on the floor Still it feels so warm today"

"It's on the floor" could be referring to the times that they make love. It's cold outside, her dress is on the floor because they've been having sex. But the dress still feels warm because he is the one dating her, he is the one that will be closest to her. He will be able to see and touch her both in and out of the dress. If this was sung by the ex boyfriend the "dress" would not still feel "warm today".

The guy is also being protective and is pretty annoyed at her ex boyfriend for bugging her and trying to seperate the two of them:

"And that's why I'm wondering why You had to tell me what's going on in your head What's wrong Come around to another time when you don't have to run"

For me, the meaning is revealed in the last verse:

"Swing into flight Over hills, over her hills it's twilight Yeah, I guess that's right now"

If the narrator was an ex boyfriend then this last verse would not be as sweet and pleasant as this. For this reason, the narrator is definitely the current boyfriend!

I had (and sometimes still have) issues with my boyfriend's ex. She has sometimes tried to wind me up by saying certain things to him which would really grate on my nerves. But I know deep down that he loves me and would never go back to her, he wants me and would not jeopardise that for anything or anyone. When I first heard this song, I automatically related it to my situation. And I do think it makes a lot of sense.

I have always wondered what this song means, but to me, I think it is about 3 friends, two guys and one girl....the girl is in love secretly with one of the guys, the one who she isnt as close with, the other guyo is inlove with her... she knows it, guy number two knows it....something starts with girl and this guy who loves her...to get to the point, i think it is about a chain of friends where one of two guy friends figures out the love interest between the girl he loves and his best friend and he knows deep down that no matter what happens with them, his friend won't ever treat her as well as he did. she may want the new guy, but when she says 'she wants somebody else' she wants someone to care for her and the one who loves her knows his friend is incapalbe.

to me this song is about either an ex b/f who is jealous of a new boyfriend or just two guys who are both falling in love with a girl. Its rather confusing but i love the chorus. I can see an ex boyfriend telling that to a new boyfriend that when she breaks down and makes a sound you;ll never hear her the way that i do, its like yea you might care for her, but i know every little thing about her and i can't let her go. Now i could be wrong but all i know is Howie Day is an amazing song writer and a great artist and this is one of my fave songs by him.

I think this song is a reflection on past love. Howie reminds you that you can't deny the influence of a former love or a broken relationship on a person's heart. No matter what, a little piece of that person will remain with you...

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
