...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – Will You Smile Again? Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
they recently recorded this song live for daytrotter and about the song they said
"This song was written when Brian Wilson was just about to release the Smile album for the first time. In it I tried to explore the idea of the composer who is unable or unwilling to face the weight of their own genius, and allow their fears to stop them from accomplishing great work. The art accompanying this song on the CD is a picture of Bach, but we’d originally wanted to put a picture of Brian Wilson there, and were told we couldn’t by some idiotic little director at our label’s art department. It’s stupid things like that that made us decide to avoid major labels, and so should you." |

the gift of memory is a curse, just like the curse of memory is a gift. i really like that play on words that he uses there.
he doesn't mind because, eventually, the memories will fade away. that aspect of old age is inevitable, and he is resigned to it. |

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Howl Lyrics

yeah, the end of the song contains three different vocal lines:
"I don't want to be sad."
"I won't wait for you in silence."
"I see the road is long." |

Saves the Day – Get Fucked Up Lyrics

i dunno why this guy is puking. i'd actually forgotten about saves the day, for the longest time. i heard this song and i realized how strong that vocal melody is, especially for the chorus. i think that this chris guy's pop sensibility is spot on, especially in this song. i'll have to listen to the rest of the album, now. |

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – Another Morning Stoner Lyrics

Emo has come in different forms and different waves throughout the years; i'd say that a lot of it had to do with stuff going on in Washington, D.C. Embrace, Rites of Spring, shit tons of bands on Dischord Records from the 80's and 90's. Fugazi itself, is a heavy influence by a lot of emo indie bands like SDRE, Jimmy Eat World, yada yada yada. I don't care what Guy Picciotto and Ian Mackaye say... emo has grown bigger than they ever thought it could have been. they may not claim it, but they had a stake in developing it and nurturing it. so it's not that fugazi is beyond emo... EMO has grown to be beyond fugazi.
my top 5 bands are: my bloody valentine, the beach boys, pedro the lion, ...aywkubttod, and starflyer 59! |

I'm glad Chris Carraba quit this band. I like Chris and I love what Dashboard does, but man...Jason Gleason's voice is freaking awesome. His stage presence is remarkable too. I never saw fsf live when chris was with 'em, but I'm not too sure that Chris was as energetic as Jason is. |

I'm sure he drew upon the memory of his friend for the song, but he wrote the song for that movie. He also wrote "Tongue" for that movie. That's one of the instrumental tracks I was talking about. |

Dashboard Confessional – Screaming Infidelities Lyrics

People associate emo with punk because early emo has punk roots. Somewhere along the way emo has gotten a ways off from punk though. Look at 80's bands like the Smiths and that's around the time emo started coming into it's own. Not that all emo doesn't sound like punk. Some emo bands' are influenced by emo-punk bands and try to incorporate that. Emo's not a fad, and it's not going to die out, So quit your bitching. |

Dashboard Confessional – Screaming Infidelities Lyrics

I would never think that Chris was selling out by getting his songs played on MTV or the radio. To be honest, I think that MTV IS the problem. I think that MTV is a sell-out that forgot what it was made for. They only play videos half the time anyway, and when they do, it's the same song over and over again... MTV needs to stop catering to Nike, Trojan, Foot Locker, and Coca-Cola, stop playing non-music-related shows like Jackass, the Real World, and Road Rules, and get back to playing good videos. At least they did something right by establishing MTV2. You know a band is awesome when they play it on MTV2 before it ever gets on MTV. Heh Heh. Hopefully, since Dashboard is now getting some publicity, more people will listen to Further Seems Forever, Chris's old band, and other awesome bands on the Tooth and Nail label. I think I've said enough. |

Jeff Buckley – Dream Brother Lyrics

Jeff wrote this song for a screenplay he read that turned into an Australian film called "sleepover". I ordered it recently, and I can't wait to see it to see what inspired this song. He also wrote two acoustic instrumental songs for this film. It's supposed to be a coming-of-age film about some young boys growing up. |

Jeff Buckley – Last Goodbye Lyrics

I've wanted a Jeff Buckley song to be in a movie for a while, ever since I had heard Jeff for the first time a year and a half ago. I only regret that they cut the song off before Jeff starts singing. I hope that the song is included on the Vanilla Sky soundtrack, so that many more people can grow to love and appreciate the music of Jeff Buckley. |
