At first I thought it was beneath or right underneath the tree, but one had too many syllables and the other started with the wrong letter. "Right 'neath the tree" sounds like you got it.
Now we gotta figure out what the third line of the song is. Sounds like it could be "tell me 'bout her" but I think I hear a "sh" somewhere in there. Maybe I'm just weird.. |

This is definitely an amazing song. I'm not quite sure what it means, but I like moshprofessional's interpretation.
If you like this song at all, I HIGHLY recommend you download the acoustic version. It's one of the best songs I've ever heard. He sings it with such skill and emotion that it's hard not to instantly fall in love with it. |

The fur coat interpretation IS a metaphor, and it's the way Chino described the song in an interview. He actually got the idea for this song while looking at a fur coat in a store.
It's actually half a metaphor, and half an example. On the outside it's beautiful and soft, but on the inside ("around the fur") it's the dried out skin of a dead animal. He's comparing the fur coat to vain people--pretty and nice looking on the outside, but dead and ugly on the inside. That's what he means by "around the fur." He's talking about what's on the other side of the fur coat.
"Should I ignore the fashion or go buy the book?" This line means just what it sounds like. He's asking himself if he should do what's "normal" and accepted, or be creative and do his own thing at the chance of being ridiculed.
"I don't want it, I just want your eyes fixated on me." This one means what it sounds like, too. He decides that he doesn't want all that glamorous crap, and that he wants people to see him for who he is as a person.

No, the Crusaders were fighting the Seljuk Turks for control of the Holy Land in the middle east. The goal was to get the filthy heathens (the Seljuks) out of the Holy Land, and take it for themselves. If you look up the history of the Crusades on Google, you'll see that every word he says tells the exact story of what happened. |

This song is specifically about the Crusades and how so many innocent people died needlessly in the name of God. It's about how the "righteous" Crusaders killed the middle eastern Seljuks and felt justified in doing so because the war was "approved by their God" (who, by the way, said "thou shalt not kill"). |

I think the tapeworm in this song is a metaphor for current trends, or what is "right" or "normal". He's saying that he can't grow artistically until he casts aside what the world says is normal and does his own thinking (stops listening to what the tapeworm tells him to do and pulls it out of his ass). |

My interpretation of the song is about the same as Rave's so I'm not going to repeat it, but there was one line in the song that I thought was very interesting. "Flashlight reveries caught in the headlights of a truck." He's talking about someone falling asleep behind the wheel of a car and turning into oncoming traffic. The driver hits a truck head on because, in a dream, he saw the headlights of the truck as flashlights. This could mean that Serj thinks technology is dulling our sense of reality (and that we're constantly stuck in a state between silence and sleep?), or it could be just an example of the disorder that is going on around us. |

I think you guys are looking too deep into this song. This just might be one of SOAD's songs without any real meaning. I think its just about him going on a date and bringing his pogo stick with him to show off. The girl's friends all wanted to try, and Serj got to grab their asses while he was helping them keep their balance (touching whoever's behind). He also had some fun watching them help each other out, and watching certain parts of them "bounce" if you know what I mean (gliding through many hands; it was so exotic). |
