I just listened to this song and sat and really thought about the lyrics for the first time. The first time I ever heard it, I was on holiday in florida for the christmas period, and my boyfriend (now ex) was back in england. It just... really got to me. I've adored death cab since way before that, but this song just really means a lot to me. anyway, i just listened to it, and i'm thinkin, what if the distance IS metaphorical - as in somebody is in a coma or somesuch? like a barrier has just dropped out of the sky and now he cant get to them. no matter how hard he tries, he'll never reach them. But he wants them to come back to him, it's almost like a plea "so come on", asking them to make it back. just a random thought i quite liked. and also, what britney...sucks said about feeling the music of this song surrounding you, i know EXACTLY what you mean... i felt the same way when i saw them live. it was almost like the song was alive. wonderful. /shush now. |

I just found this song. I think it's about putting your trust in somebody so implicitly because you love them, that no matter what might happen to you in their hands - like if they break your heart... then it's like, if he was going to get his heart broken, he'd want it to be by her. "whether you save you me whether you savage me " or... actually... thinking about it... "wanna feel my heart break if it must break in your jaws" could also mean that his heart WILL be broken in her (metaphorical, presumably) jaws, and if it happens, he wants to be able to feel it. dunno quite what that would mean... |

ok, i have a few things to say on this one. firstly, i really do love this song. i haven't listened to it in a long time before today, but now that i have, i remember just how much it means to me. I don't think it's anything about the lyrics in particular... it's just the whole feeling of the song as a whole. It has memories for me. a beautiful song indeed. doesn't make me cry though. but it does have a certain degree of emotion. another thing is that i'm sick of people having a go and calling everyone 'emo'. i wouldn't see myself as being emo, and infact, something corporate are the only band of this kind that i really like. I personally would rather listen to rx bandits for a while. but that doesn't mean that it's against the law to feel passionate about a particular song. You shouldn't catagorize somebody who you don't know. like what you like, and be happy with it. no need to make be prejudiced against somebody just because of a song they enjoy. that's just quite sad. |

i really love this song... i assume, from the title.. that it's all about leaving something that isn't right for you, but has been a huge part of your life? perhaps a relationship, or drugs, although neither of those seem to fit into the lyrics perfectly... perhaps a career. It's as if it's somwhere she's spent so long in, that it feels safe, even though it's the worst thing she's had to bear... so she has to get away, although it will be hard? but, i really could be totally wrong! great song anyway, one of my favourites! |
