I think that this song may be about some1 who got caught and put in jail and is possibly awaiting death row. Maybe he killed them and got sentenced? I know what the booklet says, but the booklets on the chili albums are usually wrong funnily enough. The 'shaolin shouted' part is a reference to a shaolin monk, whose belief is the more things you own, the more you stand to lose, hence the more you suffer. Actualy i believe you're all wrong.. wait! dont crack it just yet.. hear me out.. You all seem to have agreed that this song is really positive, but i dont think it is. Anthony Kiedis is notorious for riddling happy songs with sad lyrics (listen and read the lyrics to 'My lovely man' or 'taste the pain' for an example) I believe this song is about drug addiction. During the relaease of 'One Hot Minute' Anthony Kiedis had slipped back into drugs as soon as he started making music again. He admitted it in numerous interviews, saying that replacing Hillel again made him depressed and he couldnt cope. Thats why he says he hated making One Hot Minute, because it brought up all his old pain about Hillel Slovak's death etc. So I think the song is about making music provoking him to do drugs and be depressed again. Read the lyrics over and it makes sense- Looking in my rear mirror I can make it disappear He's depressed when he thinks what happened and thinks he can make it go away I like pleasure spiked w/pain Music is my aeroplane Did anyone even think that pleasure spiked with pain might be a reference to a syringe?? Listen to 'castles made of sand' first jimi song i ever heard and it got me hooked... Its real sad that jimi had chronic depression which was never treated, thats why he took so many drugs, it was his way of coping.. When he took all those sleeping pills he was appearantly really upset about a gig he did in germany where the place was gatecrashed by a bunch of skinhead bikers who threw bottles at him while he played and said told him that if he stopped playing they would bash him. Same thing as robert downey jr. , excellent actor (anyone seen 'heart and souls'?) but has chronic depression which was untreated and led to chronic drug use.. |

there's a reason it is a shitty album... Nmaely Zack De LA Roca never wanted to make it. If you noteice that 'Renegades' is under a contract from Sony. Zack hates sony, just look at all the protesting he's done against them. What i heard was that Tim Commerford (Bass) signed a contract for the cd with sony without telling zack so they had to make the cd or get sued. They knew they were going to brake up while making the cd, because zack at this stage was real pissed at Commerford. RENEGADES OF FUNK IS THE GOODBYE SONG! If you watch the clip its preety obvious, they show Malcom X etc. but they also show bands like the beastie boys, people who made breakthroughs, and at the end you see a wall with a sillhouette of a man with his fist in the air and in the middle it says ' Goodbye and the funk will never die..' So stop pinning shit on 'renegades' because RATM didnt even want to do it. |

OBVIOUSLY anthony was very emotional when writing this, and since i think when hes emotional he thinks of Hillel, since he was the closest friend anthony ever has )look at the lyrics for Me and my Friends- at this point in this friendly verse I've got to sing a little something that I haven't rehearsed it's about my man and his name is Hillel for who my love is woul brother sacred I think the song is about his continuing depression for the loss of Hillel and him thinking about when he'll move on from his past life- 'how long, how long will i slide to seperate my side..?' I just read an interview with the band on the album and Anthony said that it is about a night in L.A. The lyrics are about numerous things happening at once in one night, some of them happy some of them sad. He made some refference about a car crash, loan sharks, a lonely prostitute and unaquired love.. Man i love the chili's.. THis song sounds like a hybrid of the styles in bloodsugar and Californication. I just hope they tour in Australia.. anyone got any info about this it would be appreciated |
