"he is living comfort eagle" To me, this refers to the way us Americans live without worry. This seems to be the theme of the entire song. He could mean it ecologically. As in the way we pollute our planet without any concern for repercussions. This could also be taken as a political statement. In that it addresses the way we treat other countries. Aiding some countries, targeting others to better our trade situation. |

Ithink the song is about someone who never lets anyone get too close. A fear of rejection, or perhaps a fear that someone might actually see him for who he really is. However, he blames the world rather than himself. Yeah, that last line kinda says it all. |

The lines that i find interesting are the ones about him being his fathers' son. He explains that it was simply a product of birth, and he feels that he is his own man. And by composing a different song, he means that he can create his own life, make his own decisions. In other words, he will not be a victim of genetic dis- positions. He also talks about the fear of god that the church instills. Liking the boots of death, out of fear. Simply leading a godly lifestyle for fear you will rot in hell for all eternity, not because you love god and your fellow man. As usual, the phrasing and sheer bitterness, (perhaps this time a little apathy?) are superb. |

You fuckers don't get it. Yeah, the song is great, the album is classic. You don't see what I see. On each track, there have been strategically placed words and phrases. Hints to when the adult contemporary pop artists will take back the earth. They are definitely done being fucked with, i can tell you that. City Hall was encrypted, and the cipher is as follows: A=Ü B=£ J=₧ P=╗ and so on. It's right under your nose, anyway, continue leading meaningless, banal existences. Perspicacity is the burden of the intelligent. Quote me on that shit.

Thom is not singing backwards. He listened to the vocals in reverse, and learned them that way. Notice that some of the words don't actually sound backwards. (To me, it sounds like Thom is talking about politicians, and back-room politics that are kept from the public. |

I know a couple like this. They have been together for 5 years. They practically live together, they spend the large majority of their lives together. They have a joint bank account...together. I consider them both friends. But I limit my time with them. They seem to share a mind in eachothers' presence. It can be rather annoying at times. John accepts this, (as do I) but he keeps his distance as well.

The percussion on this song is simple, effective and well-placed, one of the better songs on the album. |

The "Cancer" angle is one I have not considered, it's great. However, when I heard this song for the first time, I thought that this was an observation on the vanity of society. How we excuse the "pretty" people of such crimes as banality and utter stupidity. We worship them because they are easy on the eye. We actually care what they have to say. Nothing bad ever seems to happen to these people. They lead perfect lives. Or is that just on the surface? Do they struggle with the daily trials and tribulations of being role-models to thousands of the misguided, diluted masses. Sorry for the melodrama, i was just kidding. |

Seriosly, I love this song, however, the above merely reflects the tone of the song, not my personal preference. "The ornaments look pretty, but they're pulling down the branches on the tree" is one of the most prolific lyrics in rock. Cake for President! |

This might be a stretch....so bear with me. I was watching "Carlito's Way", when I realized the similarity in the lyrics and the movie. One scene in particular, that is. Towards the end of the movie, Al Pacino comes back to Penelope Ann Miller. He wants to tell her that he is done with his violent past. She cracks open the door, secured by the chain. She tells him that he will have to break the door down to get in, however, he is tired and older now. He walkes away, but runs back, breaking through the door. Mad, passionate love ensues. My transcript may not do the scene justice, however, If you have seen the movie, I would love to know if anybody else made the connection. |
