Michael Jackson – Billie Jean Lyrics 14 years ago
You can recite phrases your parents teach you like "innocent until proven guilty" all you want, but it doesn't make it universally true. Yes, like I said, Jackson is legally innocent, and I'm not contesting that here. I'm not talking about his legal innocence, though, but rather his actual innocence. I'm not explaining it again. If you can't comprehend that distinction, then there's no point in trying to converse with you, neich.

"Delayed progression"? Even if that were a real condition (and if it is I encourage you to give us your source), you're implying that he was mentally unsound, in which case he does not belong around children unsupervised (let alone in his bedroom). Many pedophiles have abusive pasts; if anything, your argument only increases the probability of Jackson's guilt. Is he guilty? Maybe not--and I recognize that--but if anybody else decided to lay down on his bed with little kids into his bedroom, Americans--probably including you, neich, if you watched anything but E! News--would want that person in jail. The only reason Jackson gets the benefit of the doubt is because people like his music. You know, Charles Manson released a pretty good CD before murdering a cultload of people. Too bad it didn't make the charts, otherwise he might have had a chance at an acquittal too.

Let me be clear once more that I'm not accusing Michael Jackson here, because I don't know whether he's guilty or not. We know that he was found innocent in the court, but an innocent finding only means that there was insufficient evidence to convict. It does *NOT* mean that he absolutely did not commit the crime (ie., is ACTUALLY innocent), because he could have successfully concealed evidence. That's probably not true, but it is possible, and because there is not enough evidence *we just cannot know*. Yet you proudly claim that he is absolutely innocent.

So who am I accusing here? YOU, neich. And everyone like you. It's people like you who fight to get Michael Vick (the one who was arrested for illegal dogfighting and expelled from the league) back in the NFL because "he's a really good quarterback" and we should just forget that he's a scumbag. In fact, I'll bet you're supporting Wacko Jacko because you're a closet pedophile yourself. You are the scumbag, neich. You, my friend, are the "cunt".

Michael Jackson – Billie Jean Lyrics 14 years ago
@jfl -- "Put law and debates aside and use common sense."

Actually, you brought up the law, and by your post, it seems like you rely on it more than you would let on. Legally speaking, you're right: a person is innocent until proven guilty. But legal innocence and actual innocence are not the same thing. A man who commits murder and is acquitted is legally innocent. Are you really so naive as to believe that our legal system is infallible?

And as for common sense, perhaps MJ could have exercised a little himself before taking little kids into his bedroom, regardless of what actually happened.

"I probably watched every interview and read every (worthwhile) book and I believe he is pure and honest. I can imagine that this might come like a disappointment to you but I really think that’s all there is to it."

Again with the "I believe"s "I think"s. Hell, I don't believe that he molested children. But then again, maybe I don't want to believe it because otherwise I do respect him, or because it might tarnish my glamorous image of the Invincible. Unfortunately, because he made the stupid decision of bringing these kids into his bed, I cannot come to a responsible conclusion as to his guilt or innocence. Let me clarify that I am not so much disgusted with the perhaps unlikely prospect of his guilt as I am with your subjective, unequivocal insistence of his innocence. You simply cannot know whether he is guilty or innocent. But you are trying to fill in the gaps with irrelevant aspects of this man's reputation (e.g., "great entertainer", "gifted and kind", "most influential person") because you *don't want* to believe he's guilty, whether he is or not. It's partly because of people like you that the rich and famous are capable of getting away with crimes. Again, lest you infer from that that I am indicting MJ based on his fame and fortune, I am not. He may be innocent. But in the very possible event that he is not, attitudes like yours would potentially allow him to get away with molesting children. Even the philanthropic King of Pop should burn in hell for such a crime.

"Isn’t it a bit controversial, after all it was you who started this whole argument by saying he is a p**!!!"

If the controversy you refer to is the molestation scandal, keep in mind it wasn't me who brought it up. That was alister. I just said he was a prick. Granted at age 13 I tended to post some pretty stupid messages on forums like this, the sentiment remains the same. That statement could extend to any of MJ's personality traits, such as naming his children Prince Michael Jackson I & II and dangling one off of a balcony like Rafiki.

The point is, none of us can truly be sure of what happened. I understand that, judging by my second post, you might be a little alarmed by by blatant accusation. This was an illustrative gesture to sebster rather than a statement of my own convictions; I don't know if he's guilty or not. But I notice that you don't mind making unbased assumptions yourself--that is, of Jackson's innocence. Presumptions of innocence are for courts of law. Society, on the other hand, operates on suspicion: if a man in your community takes your son into his bedroom, you would be remiss as a parent to blindly trust him and do nothing. Courts of law serve to counteract society's suspicions. Had MJ exercised a little common sense to begin with by recognizing the suspicions he would cause, he never would have gotten himself into this situation. Therefore Michael Jackson was stupid.

But a great singer! HEE hee.

Michael Jackson – Billie Jean Lyrics 14 years ago
Surprisingly, wayla, I still don't feel bad. At least in the sense that you seem to expect me to.

You say "I don't think it's at all true." You think. Indeed--because all any of us are left to do is speculate as to the nature of the actual incident. A grown man made a conscious decision to invite young children INTO HIS BEDROOM. To lay on his bed. If any of those children were mine, you bet your prepubescent ass I'd believe something went on in there. As an adult, MJ should have been responsible enough to understand the consequences of his actions. He set himself up to be ridiculed, so all of these rumors are his own damn fault.

And please, enough of this "they didn't know of betrayal or malice." That perhaps sounds idealistic to you, but that type of attitude drives men to develop unnatural sexual urges toward young boys.

I don't know if it's all true or not, and at this point, I really don't care. Regardless, he put himself in that situation. As a celebrity, he was doomed to be berated by the press and public. Therefore, he was an idiot. Even if he didn't diddle the kids, he created an enormous amount of stress and skepticism for the families involved because of his little Peter Pan complex.

What's more, you wouldn't even care about this were he not a popular musician. You watched This Is It and now you're his biggest fan. What if he were just another guy without dozens of hit records? Would you still be proclaiming his innocence? No--you'd probably think he was just an idiot for putting himself in this situation. Instead you "don't think it's at all true" because you've placed these romantic thoughts in your head about what you think you know about this guy's struggle and so forth, because you like his music. How convenient for him. Had he actually decided to diddle a couple of those tots--which we likely wouldn't have evidence of--at least he would have your benefit of the doubt. As a fan of Jackson's music, I'm disgusted by your blind obedience to this pop sensation.

Perhaps he danced on the floor in the round a little more than you would like to believe.

You know, sebbie--if I may--you're right. It was egregiously inconsiderate of me to have posted that comment back in 2003 knowing damn well that he would be dead a full six years later. I should have given a shit.

How ingrateful I am for all kiddy-diddling of the King of Kiddy Diddlers. Perhaps we should erect the Sebster Child Molestation Memorial in honor of these fallen heroes. Tell your neighbors and strange men driving by in Ford Tauruses!

I think "bozo" was the word you were looking for. It's O.K.; I know it can difficult to find the right words to use to when your mom's looking over your shoulder.

An opinion that bears evidence - as previously presented - and therefore breathing solidarity; there is a distinguishable pattern in the themes of songs about New Orleans. But you present a good (though perhaps moot) point: it is in fact my opinion. This is the very nature of songwriting and poetry, sport - to stimulate the mind and lead us to formulate our own opinions, otherwise rendering this website quite uninteresting. You disagree - please, bring forth your opinion and contribute to the forum rather than arguing semantics, as so many in your wake do! Shall we continue opinionating, cub scout?

And the only thing wrong with being thirteen is the tendency to jump onto the defensive once the age bracket is even so much as brought up, not attacked :)

Journey – Lights Lyrics 17 years ago
and computwiz - Journey is not a singer. journey is a band. Steve Perry is a singer. for a band. called journey. *shoots*

Journey.. band... wait, really? Um. Oh boy. Is my face red. TD Phoenix... thank you. Thank you for pointing that out. Being a quick-witted, hyper-intelligent individual, I am certain you will take lightly to the fact that I'm going to have to crush you as I humbly dissent from your claim (ie. Journey is a band) by politely informing you that Journey is a single entity, a being of One, and He assumes eight different personas that compose His musical ensemble that we call the Christ. Journey is one. Journey's a great singer.

No, no, I believe natasha is on to something... this song may be about the sex! I always interpreted this song as being M. Gaye's emotional observation on the Soviet threat on the modern world, but PERHAPS... it's just about hitting that proverbial shit.

In case there's any speculation, any song that addresses New Orleans is virtually guaranteed to be simultaneously addressing forms of "debauchery," specifically gambling and, in this case, prostitution.

"WOT?!" you say. Come on: House of the Rising Sun, Ramblin' Man - it's a convention of sorts. Katrina ruined someone's good time.

When Patti LaBelle wrote this song, it took place in New Orleans - changed in this version to Moulin Rouge, apparently - and, frankly, what kind of woman named Lady Marmalade isn't a prostitute? Really. She's just a sexy bitch looking for some dick.

And now for the onslaught of the thirteen-year-olds who proclaim, "THAT WAS REALLY MEAN!" Cometh. (Not you, Marmalade)

Orleans – Still The One Lyrics 18 years ago
Wow this song is incredible. The spectacular four-part harmonies, the infallibly upbeat melody, the beautifully heartfelt lyrics - the criteria for a perfect tune, in my opinion. Part of what makes a song so great is its ability to convey its message without confusion to just about any listener, and this song does just that. It's about a couple that's "been together since way back when," and even through all of the minor frustrations of a marriage, he still feels the same passion for her that he felt when he first met her, stronger even. Fantastic song.

Hmm. You didn't see enough comments to aptly praise Mr. Wonder, so you decided to leave an asenine comment. Nice.
Anyone who listens to the song knows how great it SOUNDS. You've demonstrated that you have no understanding of THE MEANING of the song. Try www.crayola.com.
My comment, however, responded to ZinbobDan's above in that, even without sight, Stevie Wonder could tell what his daughter looked like by touching her face. THAT, to me, is truly a beautiful thing and is what I love about this song. The harmonica sounds nice, too.

Brenster. Obviously a Bush supporter. Even Stevie can see that. ^¿^

Thank you, mklein, for "having my back," as you say. Upon scanning through ancient posts of mine on a website that I have five years forsaken, I realize that, as a 12-year-old chap, I may have been fucking retarded. I, too, chuckled merrily upon reading my first comment. Hopefully I'm better now.

Perhaps this is largely due to my residence in the city that I personally devote this song to --- Boston, Massachusetts. Granted we may not have a bay of any sort, but I sure love that dirty water.

Journey's a great singer.

Queen – The Show Must Go On Lyrics 19 years ago
I played this song on my classic rock radio show when my science teacher died a few days ago. His fight was leukemia was much alike Freddie Mercury's fight with AIDS. He continued to teach even after he was diagnosed with the disease, as his condition got worse and worse, much as Freddie's continuance with Queen after he was diagnosed with AIDS. This is definitely one of my all-time favorite songs, and Freddie's indestructably positive outlook on life was, in my opinion, very admirable.

Bob Dylan – All Along the Watchtower Lyrics 21 years ago
Mass's theory is mostly right. The Joker is Jesus, and the thief is one on the cross next to him. Businessmen (the disciples) drank Jesus's wine and "plowmen dug his earth," not understanding the value of what they'd been given. The thief then tells him that a lot of people don't take life and heaven seriously ("There are many here among us Who feel that life is but a joke"), but they'd already seen that and they don't have to worry about being responsible for the destruction that's going to take place soon. The scene then abruptly changes to one in Vietnam, with princes and peasants keeping watch. "Outside in the distance A wildcat did growl" is a foreshadowing that something is about to happen. Two horses then appear in the distance, possibly one symbolizing a divine messenger (the Joker) and one a soldier (the Thief). The way Dylan wrote the song, the last two lines are basically for your own interpretation.

James Taylor – Fire And Rain Lyrics 21 years ago
Duff, the first IS about his girlfriend dying in a plane crash, but the song is a story of his life from his late teens through his early 20's. The first verse, which he wrote when he was about 18, is about how his girlfriend died in a plane crash, and he's grieving. The second verse is about his period of deep depression and he needed Jesus to lift his spirits. He had just come out of rehab and was looking down on his life. The third verse is about how he's becoming an adult, and realizes that life's getting tougher. "Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground" is a reference to his band that he was in in high school called The Flying Machine. After they graduated, they fell apart and his dreams of going huge were (temporarily) crushed. Looks like he doesn't have to worry about that anymore. I'm 14 and I've gotten a lot of my friends into James Taylor. You gotta introduce others to the true music.

Carolina On My Mind isn't only about longing for home in general, but also gets into detail about how beautiful and romantic it is. Sitting on a hill with your girl, watching the sun rise and holding her close... "And hey, baby, the sky's on fire I'm dying, ain't I?" The sunset's so beautiful, the sky almost looks like it's on fire. Such a wonderful song.

How the hell can you possibly say that hippies suck, because in your eyes all they do is smoke a joint? You ignorant asshole! Why don't you look at your OWN generation? The generation WE live in! 20 years from now, who will the children be looking at as pot-smoking losers - the hippies or us? Not only do people today smoke joints, but there's XTC, acid, God, it's impossible to list them all! Why don't you take a good look at yourself now while you can, because soon people will be thinking worse about you than you do about hippies! You see, the difference between the people of this generation and the sixties is, the hippies had an excellent cause. Can you think of a good cause of ours? I'm ASHAMED to live in this generation. I'd much rather live in the sixties with a bunch of pot-smoking turkeys than with you people. I apologize to those who view them from my point of view. Now go and listen to your Eminem. I'm sticking with the Grateful Dead.
