It really is one of those nostalgic songs. You hear it and.. yeah, the words are sad, but you're also bawling your eyes out because of all the memories you've had with this song. The words emphasize the fact that once something is gone/over, it can't come back... which is tragically heartbreaking. Damn, I miss those carefree days of my youth! |

Hey, Carlos, it's really easy to figure out... It's in E flat major... You should probably be able to get it with that information.
Anyway, this song is great! And it has that tendency when you're pissed off or sad to make you extremely upbeat.
When people on songmeanings say something along the lines of "Ok, this isn't ilovethissong.net, it's songMEANINGS.net" it makes me sort of mad - when people express how much they love a song, I think they are expressing how much it MEANS to them. Everyone needs to chill about that.. It's not a big deal.
Brilliant song... the line "curse missed opportunities" really hits me hard. |

This IS an awesome song, thanks for posting lyrics, Humbert!!! But, I think it's "poor man smiling 'cause he knows he ain't blind".... I'm not sure, the captioning said "blind" and it sorta looks like he's saying it. Oh well, not that important. Anyway, I love the video for this song, it reflects the lyrics really well. I think Sam Roberts wrote this when he was thinking about how you can work so hard to get no where, and it doesn't matter if you cheat or do the wrong thing because even if you do the right thing life will just pass you by. The people in society who are on the top (the rich, the tough) always seem so much better off, but the rest of the world can see through it. And all the while, nothing means anything, there's nothing there, no reason for anything. "Someone else telling you what you're living for,
been knocking you down, now you're looking for more." That line really pumps me up, and makes me motivated to prove to everyone who's judged me wrong. But then it goes on to say "All sudden you hear is a closing door,

It sounds like everyone is saying that the Distillers are turning into that awful breed of "POP" punk we all hate. But look at the grunge scene in the early 90s. Grunge started off being the underground music but ended up being popular. It's just the cycle music goes through. And where I come from, it's not likely that anyone esle but me and a couple of friends will ever hear of the Distillers, so you can all rest easy knowing that the stupid people won't turn them into a sold-out pop band. And actually in Canada on Much Music there is a section that is for the uncharted, indie groups, giving them some exposure, and I think it's not bad because I really like Indie music. If I don't use the media to my advantage, how am I supposed to discover these bands? I know the feeling of loving a band before anyone else does and then they become huge and you sort of hate it because the reason you liked them is because they were different from what anyone else liked, but now they all like them... I don't think that's quite happened to the Distillers. |

Yeah, who cares what the song means, The Strokes are a revival of old school punk and it's refreshing... I sort of wish they were still a band that not many people knew about, but it's awesome that they are getting more exposure and the credit they deserve. The whole CD is soo awesome, I've had it for a while and I'm not sick of it yet. "Tried my Luck" is a GREAT song, need lyrics for those. If you find them, could someone post them?? The guitars KICK ASS and I especially like the bass in all of their songs. Fuckinay is fucking right. |
