Red Hot Chili Peppers – Slow Cheetah Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm going to try abandoning my past as an English major and avoid an extended explication... I think these lyrics reference the slow cheetah as someone known to the speaker who didn't turn out "right," but nonetheless tries to force themself into the mold. The song opens with a declaration by the speaker that being dead on the inside is unacceptable, and a condition with no remedy. While he had his chance at accepting insanity and therefore gaining protection from the rain, or the masses beating down upon him, he also "had his chance to break," or break away, something commonly considered so bad that, for someone who can't follow the fold, it must be good. If I knew more about Bonnie Brae other than the fact that it's a street/area in LA (and I only know that thanks to Google,) I'd have more to say about the next bit other than the speaker poses "Why try to run away" as a rhetorical question, and that this line signifies him rejecting the mandate of the majority which dictates a specific manner of existance, whether or not it applies to a specific person. In other words, since the speaker's happiness and ability to live fully is his own creation, following the will of "they" would essentially be the same as running away from himself. In the second half of the song, a girl who knows nothing about herself is told by people referenced only as "they," (perhaps the same "they" as in "you know what they say,") that she will "never be as happy as the girl on the magazine," which can be assumed to be the stereotypical bleached, airbrushed, starved, makeup-ed, faked-up girl on all the covers of those magazines that offer up the secrets to weight loss, mind blowing sex, looking beautiful, achieving perfect style, etc. She "buys it," or believes them, "with her pay," or by sacrificing what she has earned by her hard work. In the chorus, the speaker beseeches the "slow cheetah" to come nearer to his "forest." "Looks like it's on today" seems to indicate that a conflict exists, most likely between the options of doing what is expected and doing what is right. The speaker persuades the slow cheetah that, regardless of what "they" dictate, the forest is something "euphoric." Coming before the speaker's forest, therefore, is a metaphor for the slow cheetah doing what is best for herself. After all, even if a cheetah *should* live on the plains, a slow cheetah could never catch a gazelle. It would only ever struggle miserably in vain to hunt while slowly starving to death. After this, the speaker speaks of "their" words as meaningless babble, and again refers to the conflict mentioned in the chorus, urging the slow cheetah not to hesitate. Then, action occurs, specifically a walk to a "burial ground," and also "a very old dance" with "a merry old sound," indicating that the speaker, and perhaps the slow cheetah, as well, engage in a time honored celebration of the death of what one can infer to be his/their allegiance with the previously referenced "they" by happily dancing upon the grave where it has been buried. Thus, don't listen to what everyone else has to say about your life. Any group large and vague enough to be known only as "they" could never hope to know the best course for any one person to take. The only hope any individual has for decent advice is in another person much like them. ... Well, I said "try." I tried. I just didn't succeed. Also, I'm going to throw in a couple of corrections, because I'm an anal retentive bitch like that.... Waking up dead inside of my head *Will never* never do there is no med Any other day and I might play A funeral march for *Bonnie Brae* |
Gorillaz – November Has Come Lyrics | 19 years ago |
With the tone of the rest of the album, I wouldn't doubt that "November has come/And it's gone away" is a reference to a lost opportunity to oust Bush. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Lovin' and Touchin' Lyrics | 19 years ago |
How is that creepy? He's saying he loves this girl enough to father her child. This lyric is about all the incredible things that exist currently, followed by all the things he wants in the future. It's short, and sweet as can be. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Rolling Sly Stone Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Definitely a song to crank while driving... God, I bought Hyde Park awhile ago, and I was listening to it on the way back to my house, and I decided I wanted to listen to one of the new songs... I almost shit myself! I LOVE THIS SONG. It reminds me SO much of "If You Want Me to Stay," which is definitely one of my favorite songs in the world... but I really think this might be one of the best songs they've ever written. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Stone Cold Bush Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Except I definitely think its "suck that cock." I mean, gut doesn't rhyme or make sense... |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Save the Population Lyrics | 20 years ago |
That would make a lot of sense too. The song was originally titled "History." |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Catholic School Girls Rule Lyrics | 20 years ago |
the video is beautiful.... kiedis on a crucifix... beautiful. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Buckle Down Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Wow... these lyrics are so wrong.... The song goes like this: "Hot off the ice, no hole in my soul. We're men, not mice, No strumming my bow" and then "Red star, black fist" and I'm pretty sure its "Live dreams tonight" There's probably some other stuff wrong, but I don't have the booklet in front of me to check myself. |
Carbon Leaf – Desperation Song Lyrics | 20 years ago |
The rhythm and the harmonies on this track are amazing... So cool live, too.... God they must be like the best band EVER in Richmond. It really makes me sad that even though they've won awards and they've gotten publicity that a band this talented hasn't taken off more. At least they stay in town more this way ;-) |
Carbon Leaf – The Boxer Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Definitely one of the coolest bands around today. Last year, the drama department at my school got invited to a competition in Scotland, and we were having trouble raising money, so Carbonleaf agreed to play a benefit show in our gym. Not only did they play the show, but they announced on stage that they would be using half of the money they made that night from ticket sales and CD sales and whatnot to press a special CD of the performance to be sold only at my school, and that all profits from the CDs would be donated back to the drama department. How amazingly cool is that? They raised an incredible amount of extra money for us, and I have one of a very small number of special release albums autographed by Barry... So fucking cool.... |
Carbon Leaf – Mary Mac (Traditional Song) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
myownprison, did you leave some of the song out? I thought there were more verses than that. |
John Frusciante – The First Season Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I can't believe no one's commented on this yet... It's so amazing... You know that feeling in the back of your jaw when you eat something really intense like a Starburst? I get the same feeling in my stomach when I listen to this song.... It's just amazing. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Mellowship Slinky in B Major Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Yea, it is D minor... but when they first wrote it, it was in B major... The title just didn't sound as good switched, I guess. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Save the Population Lyrics | 20 years ago |
If it's literal, to what does the chorus refer? Sex? Wouldn't bringing another life up in a world filled with sex, drugs, drinking, and gambling be rather counterintuitive, then? |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – I Could Die for You Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Dude... if this song is about Clara, then the lines "Close the door and no one has to know/how we are" almost sound like child abuse... heh |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – I Like Dirt Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Maybe not anal sex, but just sex in general. Think about it. What's a term to describe something that's full of sexual references? Does the word "dirty" ring a bell? And yea, it is "give good tongue," which also begs for the interpretation of "dirty," as does just about every other line in this song. Why is everyone always trying to prove that the guys in RHCP are gay? |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Minor Thing Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Maybe Anthony was just really happy cause he finally learned how to sing? Come on now, even their biggest fans gotta admit things like the opening of the Experience Music Project (its KAYlifwarniKAYshoooone...) were painful to listen to. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Throw Away Your Television Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Could you have picked a more ironic place for calling the Peppers sellouts? |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Nobody Weird Like Me Lyrics | 20 years ago |
You'd think that on the re-release they'd change it... I mean, they changed "Special Secret Song Inside" to "Party on Your Pussy" on the Uplift Mofo re-release.... |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Easily Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Darktoss.... commies haven't been a threat since the cold war.... chill man... its almost 20 years past that. |
Insane Clown Posse – Fuck the World Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Fine then. Listen to your music. Brandish it as genius. Just don't be surprised when the truth dawns on you and you hear something that is truly beautiful, meaningful, emotional music. Sometimes, meaning transcends words. |
Insane Clown Posse – Fuck the World Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I'll tell you why I came here... someone told me to. I read the song, and the lyrics are terrible. How is that talent? I could've written that back in fifth grade.... and hey its not MY fault you like music that sucks. As far as I'm concerned, its not my dislike of ICP that's BS, it's ICP that's BS. The song means nothing but hate, their songs are nothing but crap. Get over it. Grow up. I bet you still laugh at potty jokes. |
Nine Inch Nails – Hurt Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I guess the reason I like this song so much is because it completely embodies my number one standard for good music; the conveyance of emotion. I think that that is where true talent is measured. A person can have an amazing voice or amazing musical technique, but if, upon listening to their song, I feel nothing, I think nothing, I dream nothing, then their so-called art might as well have never been forced upon this earth. In Hurt, Reznor not only shows you his pain, he not only lets you see it, but he forces you to feel it. You see it, you hear it, you think it. If you listen to this song, when you (try to) walk away, you WILL know what it is to hurt. Aptly titled, beautifully written, slightly misunderstood. Reznor sings not necessarily of the masochism of physical self-injury, but the masochism of the unintentional self-injury that is faith. That is why there are references to Christ in this song. Faith is a very powerful thing, and when it fails you, you are left in ruins. An utterly amazing piece of music. |
Nine Inch Nails – Hurt Lyrics | 21 years ago |
some of y'all might hate the cash cover of this, but its interesting that he caught the christ reference that you guys missed. Come on now, crown of shit/crown of thorns..... I'm Jewish and I caught that one. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Green Heaven Lyrics | 21 years ago |
yea but ya still went and did it..... and, well, I'm a bitch. ;-) oh well. Yea the key changes are genious. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Green Heaven Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Really now, how stupid do you think we are that we need that song explained to us? Shit. ... Anyhow, I just wanted to say I took the lyrics for this one and wrote them out on my black messenger bag in silver sharpie, it looks sweet as shit. I <3 the peppers! |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Special Secret Song Inside Lyrics | 21 years ago |
except the verses are wrong..... they go like this: Well my landlady, she lives three houses away she caims that she can hear my baby screaming to me "fuck me anthony, anthony" and then Struck by lust in a telephone booth Busted by a cop; he said "that's uncouth" He said that she could hear my baby screamin to me "Fuck me anthony, anthony" |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Behind the Sun Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Its about how, in order to reach inner peace and see true beauty, you must connect with and love the earth, because without it we all shall perish. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Love Trilogy Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Ok..... Here's my corrections: My love comes And when it does It's a crazy kind of Selective affection My love flows like a wise guy's tie In the zaniest of direcions My love protection, my love erection You better get some of my nfection My love can be bigger than The hoover dam My love can hide behind A grain of sand My love for life is fueled by The love for my man I love his mother and The silly Mixed up Man Some people think he's bad They say he doesn't laugh And ask my dad My love is death to Apartheid rule My love is deepest depth, the ocean blues My love is the Zulu groove My love is coop-a-loop move My love is lightning's blues My love is the pussy juice My love can't be refused My love is gettin' skin on my flute My love, my love My love began from love My love for an unknown grubby bum My love for the baby suckin' on his thumb My love for the best set of buns My love for the feel of the drums My love for a bunch o knuckleheads My love for the sweet smell of bread My love for the legs that spread My love for the fat natty dread My love, my love My love is my toes in the sand My love is my dick in my hand My love is my toes in the sand My love is my dick in my hand... ....So I guess Prismpuck was OK on the first verse or so.... but man, come on, what the hell is a butter knuckle hands? What are sweedes in the bad? Fat mingy? Dick in my head? Wow. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Pea Lyrics | 21 years ago |
yea, sally_cinnamon, you're probably thinking about the song My Lovely Man, which is about anthony's love for their old guitarist, Hillel Slovak, or the song Tearjerker, which is about Kurt Cobain. I'm pretty damn sure they're all straight.... |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Love Trilogy Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Wow are those lyrics wrong....... in so many places...... oh damn. I'll be back later to post corrections. |
Insane Clown Posse – Fuck the World Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Oh, sorry MyAntiDrug, maybe I was just listening to the wrong thing. See, I was listening to the lyrics, but, apparently, these other meanings are in the LYIRICS. Sorry, my bad. |
Nine Inch Nails – Wish Lyrics | 21 years ago |
oh yea, cause pedophiles are so much better than druggies.... |
Nine Inch Nails – The Great Below Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song always reminded me of "Annabell Lee" by Poe... only told instead from Annabell Lee's point of view. I dunno, maybe I'm too much of a poetry dork. Either way, I love this song. Love it love it love it love it. Definitely one of NIN's best songs. I can sit there and put this on repeat and just drift off and yet still feel the song so passionately and so strongly that I can't help but sing along. |
Insane Clown Posse – Fuck the World Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Ok..... MyAntiDrug........ and what would these meanings be other than hate, sex, and just plain ol' cussing for the hell of it? Call me stupid if you want but when someone with an IQ of 165 can't find another meaning, I'd tend to believe that there just isn't one there. Woohoo! Look! I wrote an ICP song: I fucking hate my life. I hate myself. I hate this world. I hate all the cures out there, even the uninvented ones. Fuck the cure for cancer. Fuck this life. Fuck all my wasted opportunites. Fuck me, fuck you, fuck the establishment, fuck school, fuck it all. I wanna see it all go up in one huge, smoking, flaming, burning, bright fucking red blaze of glory. Right now, all I can picture in my head is one big, huge middle finger, raised and defiant, proclaiming my anger, cynicism, and rage to the entire world. There is no point to anything in the long run. No one can hope to do anything in this life. No one will ever make a difference in this world. We're all fucked in the end. Even Ghandi was just polishing the brass on the Titanic. Life is one big, huge load of bullshit wrapped up in a pretty bow, but hey, some people really like pretty bows. Well I don't. Fuck bows. I've never been a girly girl. I fucking hate bows. And ribbons. Fuck ribbons too. So what if it doesn't rhyme? FUCK RHYMES! Rhyming takes brains and knowing lotsa words, and yo, those are just too fucking dorky to be cool, right? |
Depeche Mode – In Your Room Lyrics | 21 years ago |
God I love this song so much... I dont know why it says that it isn't found on any albums, though. I know for a fact its on Songs of Faith and Devotion. |
Chad Kroeger – Hero Lyrics | 21 years ago |
oook how big of a dipshit is mmtt? geez what's he think the point of this website is?!? |
Our Lady Peace – Superman's Dead Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Wow i saw them in concert on saturday and they fuckin rocked. I always really liked them but damn they're awesome live. They started playing this song and i got up and crowd surfed and no one dropped me till the very last line and i went over the edge of the crowd head first on my back into the arms of a security guard and it was just so awesome cause I got the best view of the band playing my favorite song and wow. damn. anyhow, on to the meaning.... I'm totally in agreement about the lack of values today thing, that's just the general feel you get from hearing "superman's dead" it just sort of signifies the death of protection and what is good in the world. |
Mindless Self Indulgence – I Hate Jimmy Page Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Fuck! I meant commentary, not comedy. Dammit!!! |
Mindless Self Indulgence – I Hate Jimmy Page Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Yes that's it. MSI is highly intellectual artistic comedy. Please. Jimmy Urine's just trying to piss off the people who can't get over Zeppelin... you know, the kind who think that Zeppelin is the be all and end all of all music and anything that isn't zeppelin is just plain shit and can never compare and will never compare and has no hope of comparing at any other point in time......yada yada yada.... I think he's succeeded. Cool song anyhow. Cool band. Definitely unique. |
The Smashing Pumpkins – Muzzle Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Its about how he lost someone he loved. How when he had that love, he was the wisest and most greatly fulfilled man alive.. but i knew exactly where i was and i knew the meaning of it all and i knew the distance to the sun and i knew the echo that is love and i knew the secrets in your spires and i knew the emptiness of youth and i knew the solitude of heart and i knew the murmurs of the soul Then how because of this great love, his whole perspective changes.... and the world is drawn into your hands and the world is etched upon your heart and the world so hard to understand is the world your can't live without Then his love is lost: and i knew the silence of the world |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – By the Way Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Polak...... I think its oversold.....thats what it sounds like, but in the lyrics sheet it says its overload just like the others. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Suck My Kiss Lyrics | 22 years ago |
well fucking duh, dude. |
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Otherside Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Its about a person's depression. Anthony's singing about how he thinks so little of himself..... hence the lines Pour my life into a paper cup The ashtray’s full and I’m spillin’ my guts She wants to know am I still a slut I’ve got to take it on the other side Scarlet starlet and she’s in my bed A candidate for a soul mate bled Push the trigger and pull the thread I’ve got to take it on the someone wants to know about whether or not he's as abusive as he was. Slut is meant in a figurative sense i think, as is the line about the scarlet starlet.... they could mean anything from drugs to just low self esteem. The question is does the person in the song still bring this bad thing on himself? The singer realizes that he is still bringing it on himself, and has been for awhile (how long will i slide) and through this realization slips back into depression and comes to the realization that whatever it is he's been doing will kill him in the end no matter what, so why not kill himself now? |
Starlight Mints – Popsicle Lyrics | 22 years ago |
oh gosh i know it took me forever to get what they were saying...... does this song really have much of a meaning anyhow? |
Hole – Northern Star Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I love this song. I love the imagery of it. Once you hear this song, you will never forget it. Ever. Its the greatest thing to listen to when you're depressed and feeling left alone. I'm fairly certain it was written by Courtney after Cobain offed himself....... that would explain why its such a desolate song anyhow. |
Tool – Schism Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Its totally about a brakeup...... it uses the metaphor of the Church splitting to explain. It talks about how more communication is needed....... isnt that one of the stereotypical reasons for breakup? not enough communication? Maynard is singing about how he wants the relationship back together.... cause he knows that it did work at one point so it should be able to.... but now its all crumbling and falling apart and decaying and if only there were more communication he could bring it back together..... of course this also applies to the church... the time of the schism when western and eastern orthodox split is when truly dark things were happening in the church...... soon there was the inquisition and so on... and then the western church further split into protestant faiths, decaying even more. and perhaps this was all because as a whole man began to turn away from the true teachings of the bible, doing unto others as we would have others do unto ourselves and so on...... and instead began to focus on the persecutions of nonbelievers.... perhaps if there were more communication with god or maybe just between the faiths the world would be whole again...... maybe this wholeness goes as far back as Eden who knows....... |
Filter – (Can't You) Trip Like I Do Lyrics | 22 years ago |
OMG awesome song from a sweet movie. ya gotta ove spawn. So many great phrases in this one... rationale of a NY cop..... back on my feet like a freight train im cumming...... i LOVE IT!!!!!! |

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Soul to Squeeze Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Umm Rockinrose get a life. This song is about when life gets to be too much and you just can't take it. You know deep inside that you are valid, beautiful, and have every right and reason to be happy, but life has gotten underneath your skin and you just can't cheer up. If you can't see past the one reference to an organ, I really pity you. |
