Ben Harper – Steal My Kisses Lyrics 22 years ago
I suppose "dress" could be taken in a different sense, as in "clothing" and not a girl's dress. I'll still think of it being about a girl, when I listen to the song. I once knew a girl that kind of acted like that around me. Never turned me away or told me she didn't want me. But also never went through any trouble to see me or be with me, never asked me to do anything. I think its a beautiful song. Sad, but OK -- not depressed. And that's how life is sometimes.

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics 22 years ago
I don't understand why some of you argue over whether this is the best or the worst song. The great thing about this SongMeanings website is that people have the chance to speak intelligently and emotionally about music, but its hard to understand that the people who post comments don't realize that what is important isn't how great a song is in general, but what it means to you.

Personally, I find the sex interpretation to be a stretch. Yes, "how low" might refer to a blow job, and alternatively it could refer to a low between taking heroin. But it has so many possible meanings -- depression, for example. And since "hello" comes before it, you could even take it to mean the depression, emptiness and ugliness inherent in a teen world where teens are forced to be polite to the older generation, even though they don't want to -- when teens are forced to be something they're not.

I think, in general, this song is just about teen life. MrSkaPunk is probably right; Kurt didn't put much effort into the meaning of the lyrics, but what he wrote down can nonetheless be analyzed. And I think that its best taken as a multitude of emotions, actions, diversity (mulatto, albino), acceptance, rejection, and the ups and downs of teen life.

Ani DiFranco – So What? Lyrics 22 years ago
The only version I have of this song is a live version. It sounds like Ani is in a rather small auditorium, and you can clearly hear when individuals or small groups on one side or another of the stage are yelling. It is beautiful, and perfect for the song: the intimate setting mirrors the intimacy felt in the song, the emotion, frustration, humiliation, and confusion that are all a part of real relationships. For when you get to know someone else, you find out about yourself, and all of these emotions are unavoidable. I love the part about the fantasy. Its like your in this relationship, and you can't handle it. So for a while you live in this fantasy world, dreaming of how things should be or how you would like them to be: how you would like to be. And then you wish someone will save you from your own fantasy. Someone will see you, and like you... YOU. Can you imagine?

Ani DiFranco – Back Back Back Lyrics 22 years ago
This is such a beautiful song; I love listening to it. Its comparable to "The Dark Side of the Moon." Well, actually, it much more intensively poignant and visionarily eternal than that: its perfect. It asks the important question: not, "are you happy now," but "will you be happy with yourself and what you've done when you are no longer capable to do anything more." The deep, dark, latent depths of one's thought rise slowly and come to light as the mind becomes weak and the body incapable, and will those thoughts haunt you? Will this selfishness distill you into a brooding old hag cursing at the wall, full of contempt for life and the time wasted when you didn't realize that the only action you will never regret is loving others - friends, family and community, and letting everyone know?
