It could be a lot simpler than a person dying. It could be maybe like, say you look up to someone, a friend, and they act like a friend back, but you realize everything you ever saw in that friend was fake, and they never were truly your friend. Something happened and you realized that they weren't who you thought they were. And the persons getting back at them for hurting them and ruining the image they aspired to be like. Maybe... But anyway, this is hands down the best Tool song EVER. I love it. |

This is probably the most complicated Deftones song I've tried to decipher. Some of the lyrics are wrong here, and I've submitted corrections. "Just because I'm really poor" should be "Just because I will afford", and "He get, He get's real high" should be "We are here to love heart". But to the meaning... I think this song is about a person that has had to live a false life to go from being a poor person to someone famous. Now he views himself as two different people: the person he really is (nothing), and the person he is not (famous). I think I'm gonna have to go lyric for lyric here. "To be forced under I look unto your home" He has to stop and analyze himself (he's the famous person talking to the poor) He's trying to see his real self. "We gave our eyes but no one will yes I know" Hypothetically, the famous person cannot view himself as he really is, so he cannot "see" (he has no eyes). The poor person doesn't exist, so he "has no eyes". But in reality, they both can see if they choose to. "To heed the cause I will be barred but you won't" In his life, the famous side of him has limitations because he isn't who the person really is, and he can go only so far, but if he was himself, he could do whatever he wanted. "We are here to love heart" We live pretty much for ourselves, and we should love ourselves, not become different. "He's up inside, we start to cry." He becomes confused, since he transformed, is this who he really is now? Can he become the original version of himself, or is the real "him" completely different? The confusion causes frustration that brings tears... "Just because I will afford, living in me is so poor." Because now that he's famous, he's living the false life so his life is meaningless. "Deliver me there" Basically, I think "there" is meaning that he doesn't have. "To be judged by one or licked by three" Either he can find help from one other person to help him discover himself, or he can do it himself, and he will be conquered by the parts of himself (Rich, poor, and the real him) "And your holes enclose" His flaws surround him, become him. He is, completely, a flaw. His whole life. "Cannot fuck to be me and you won't find me" I believe he's talking to the "judged by one" person, someone giving him advice to help him. Maybe like a therapist? He's saying you can't screw around and make things simple to help him find out who he is. And that's basically what the next few lines are about. "I'm in trouble because playing god" He's figuring himself out..."making" himself over again. Afraid he'll screw up and be even worse, maybe. "I and me we go with Jesus in a bowl of dirt" I think he's comparing himself to Jesus in a way that Jesus was poor, but famous. So it's all right for him to be poor and famous, both sides can be the real him. "Yeah, so poor, I will fly" He's decided that he will bring both parts together, be high and low at the same time. Maybe delusional here, but that's the conclusion that he has come to. So, the short version: The guy became something he didn't think he was and reflected on himself, and came to the conclusion that he can be himself and what everyone who loves him (fans) will still love him for who he is. Phew, well, argue all you like. Maybe you'll inspire more or something. :P |

*sigh* I posted something and it came up but I guess it disappeared for some reason. Maybe a bug in the system when they shut down earlier. This is a day later so I'll try to say what I said again. The line "I think god is moving its tongue". I don't think this is god moving his own tongue metaphorically compared to a cloud. If that was so, it would be "god is moving his tongue". God is moving the sun's tongue, causing the heat across the world. And going back to my other post, I think this ties in with religion and how it causes people to judge others and become narrow-minded. But without the "tongue" god is absent and everyone is closer to equal. I don't think it's as good as what I said the first time but I think I got most of it. BTW, the video for this song is amazing, by far my fav. Deftones video. |

| I think this song is about insecurities with one's self and how one usually doesn't want to confront them, but yet they run from them and try to do things so they won't have to look down on themselves. More than likely, insecurities obtained from a failed relationship. And of course, the only thing that can make this person forget about a bad relationship is to start a new one, and then run away (or drive away) and start over. | |

"My Own Summer" is the perfect world in where no one cares to see everything and be out and a part of the normal society. They'd rather be in the dark, and they wouldn't care about the way a person looked because they wouldn't see them. Everyone would get to know the real person before they were judged. And they also wouldn't be a part of this fake happiness that the sun symbolizes. They would find their own happiness by just being themselves. And if they tried to "look up" (do their own thing, be happy with themselves and set goals, etc.) the sun wouldn't be there to "burn" them and say that that isn't what they're supposed to do, and that it isn't right. In summary I guess the summer, the perfect world is one where everyone is equal and can do whatever they want to without getting criticized for it. And by the way...I think when the two hits the six means (going back to the clock thing) 6:30. Two hands are on the "6". And what happens around 6:30 in the summer? The sun rises. That's when Chino says he is through, and he wants to find shelter. That's when "summer" starts. Makes sense doesn't it? Hope it wasn't too bad... |

I think it's about a girl that back in the day, was the girl every guy wanted. So she got to pick who felt loved and accepted. But the guy in the song was fortunate enough to be chosen by the girl he was infatuated with. So, years later, the two are walking on the street. Now she's just another girl, and she's taken attention to the guy in the song. But he's not interested because he knows what kind of person she is, and really doesn't want to get involved with her. He doesn't want to come across as cruel though, because he doesn't want to feel like all that time spent obsessing over her was just a waste, so he tries to spare her feelings by talking to her a little. But it's not like her cares, truly. Yes, there's a video. It's pretty simple-them playing in a warehouse and it flashes and stuff, nothing much, and not their best video. |

| Okay..okay...I have a confession. I made this song. In my plot to overthrow the world I've decided first to turn all SoaD fans against one another by them arguing on who sang this very song. I knew that it would break off into three sects, those who thought it was Mr. Bungle, those who thought Rabbit Joint, and the few semi-SoaD fans that actually thought it was them singing. But I knew no one would suspect me...and now that everyone hates everyone the chaos can spread. Har har har. I am also the cause of all ignorant racial comments...I made sure Bush Jr. got president...I kidnapped Chandra Levy then cloned her to make people that are against that mad, I killed the clone and left the bones in Washington D.C., then I sent the real Chandra Levy to an island somewhere to start arguments with people. I think repeatedly cloned her and so every flamer you see on the internet (including those like makeinukao) is actually a Levy clone. So there you have it. | I think this song is about the human mind. It keeps evolving, thinking new things, and is so complex. But we keep thinking things, drawing conclusions, and then turning around and changing what we originally thought. And we get tired of this whole scheme, and pretty much become very lazy-minded and don't think much anymore. When we're given too much information we just don't feel like sorting it out. And basically our mind gets polluted when we don't sort out and figure out what we really think and what's really on our minds. But if you go that far, you can't be in charge of all the commotion going on in your head, no matter how hard you try to think about it you'll just get more confused. We get more opinions, more theories, the older we grow the more things we get influenced by. And the more they say the less we hear. And we just stop thinking anything. But if you don't ever let yourself be run down by everyone else, and just listen to yourself, figure out things on your own, then that won't happen to you. I think this about a guy who fell in love, but then the girl changed into something bad. He just let it happen, but he couldn't love her afterward. When he let her go, it really hurt this girl. But he went about it in a cruel way, and he felt really guilty about it, and he realized maybe it was better to be with her. But when he went back, the girl blew him off, knowing that she would never be the way he wanted, so she would end up getting her again. And it didn't matter if he gave his life, the girl still wouldn't want to be with him. If it doesn't make sense, I'll break it down. Maybe things do get a little crazy, someone decides to play twister because they're fucked up and just wanna do something crazy, and then it goes a little further. | Life is a waterfall I think ties in with reincarnation and other Buddhist philosophy, you live, you fall, then your born again into a new river. Alone in yourself, and in your own void, you find true peace and all the true answers. This true happiness only exists when you're young and don't know all the possibilities of life. But when you look up, above the river, (get older) you get distracted from the truth and peace, and want to go "play". We want to go and do what we want, despite the negative (or positive) effects on our lives. We just go. We complain though afterwards, because the negative things aren't supposed to happen. But if good things happen, that's what we expect and we aren't thankful for it. So we have our taste of happiness, but once we get hurt, we "put up our walls", and try to just shut out outside influences altogether. But if you simply don't heed to the distractions of the world, and you seek true happiness within yourself and without other influences (drugs, religion, possession) then things will be good. | I think this song is like god conversing with Jesus, and how he sent Jesus to Earth to alter the beliefs of simple people (forest turn to wine, wine is a symbol of Jesus' blood in Christianity). Eventually the forest is turned to sand (the forest is destroyed). So in effect, their beliefs destroy themselves. Jesus can't believe that he has caused the destruction of people simply because he was there and brought about new belief, but god shows him all the war and destruction that has sprung from religion and all the bad that it causes. And even though it destroys the people, they are too narrow-minded to alter their beliefs now, or accept any others, so everyone will try to change everyone's beliefs, until pretty much everyone kills everyone. | |
