Pete Townshend – Let My Love Open The Door Lyrics 22 years ago
btw, do you think it coincidental Townshend recorded an entirely new version of this song for John Cusack in Grosse Pointe Blank?
Watch the scene in which the song is played and you'll get it.

Pete Townshend – Let My Love Open The Door Lyrics 22 years ago
Get real, guys. This is Pete Townshend's big coming-out-admitting-I'm-gay song. It took great personal courage for him to admit it publicly, because then he finally had to really admit it to himself. In 1996 his big charity performance of this song for his birthday bash was simply him standing solo in front of a mike, with three gigantic rearprojection screens behind him showing slides of his life from infancy to current age. At the finish of the song the mostly Hollywood celeb audience was in tears as they gave him a unanimous standing O.
As with most really great composers, much of his work has deep meaning about the love of God, Christian or not, for each of us.

The Who – Won't Get Fooled Again Lyrics 22 years ago
In 1972 I heard Townshend say the song is about how British Labour Party pols used the foolish studentia to riot, protest, and demonstrate in order to facilitate their wins in Parliamentary elections. The promised changes did not come, and this is Pete's bitter denunciation of the liberal's lies.

The Who – Behind Blue Eyes Lyrics 22 years ago
Jeez, you guys. You're swallowing camels while straining at gnats.
Pete is gay. He has had to hide behind his blue eyes for decades until he felt safe coming out. During the years of hiding his orientation he had to say something that made sense, and usually he was jerking the liberal fool reporters aksing him for some deep meanings to his lyrics. Anyone who listens to the lyrics of baba o'riley; goin' mobile; bargain; my wife; and the song is over; can hear clearly his hiding-his-gayness anguish.
