The bass line in this song is amazing, it makes you feel like you are acually traveling the road, a prisoner of the white lines on the freeway. I love the metaphor for coyote and and ladies man. When im camping i just turn this song up real loud and get lost in it. |

I am a big Led Zeppelin and a Joni Mitchell fan, and i read in a review that the girl

is joni mitchell. Then in a live recording of this song, (which happens to be my favorite) after this lyric is sung he calls out Joni.
I think this as for all songs, only means something to you, so yes i see the lotr relation but also it can be just about his love for california. |

Joni wrote this song in one night, she wanted to go to woodstock but had her first tv interview the next morning and was unsure if she would be able to get out of there intime to appear on tv. verry dissapointed she had to watch the media and watch what she felt was one of the biggest events of her generation take place with her absence. crosby stills nash and young took a helicopter into woodstock and they made it out the next day and made it on time to the tv interview, joni said when she saw that they made it and she could have gone, her heart broke right there, she missed out and wrote this song out of her disapointment. |

This is one of my favorite Joni songs. i think she captures young love so perfectly. the feeling that you want to love yet you are so busy living life that you dont want to comprimise what you have and settle down.
