Elton John did not write the lyrics to most of his earlier songs. He had a partner (I believe his name was Bernie Taupin) and Bernie was an excellent songwriter. Elton John gets creds for a lot of these songs, but it was really a musical collaboration between the two. I believe it's about love. Plain and simple but beautiful. =) |

Sorry to say, but I've always had a soft spot for Yellow Submarine even though It isn't by any means musically great. It's just fun and puts me in a good mood. Obviously not their best song, but it is fine. I have actually used Yellow Submarine to get people interested in the Beatles. Many kids my age would not have the patience for some of the better "fun stuff" like Ob-la-di Ob-la-da. If this song gets people interested, then I am happy they have found the Beatles. |

It was not about the Manson murders, Charles Manson believed in some Beatles songs they were sending him messages. Take George's song, "Piggies". Manson spelled this out on walls in blood in some of the murders, if I'm not mistaken? |

meta4therain, I believed this was the meaning too but that was before I heard John already said it was about sex. Although John may have just said that was what it was about, as he did with MANY of his songs. He probably did have Vietnam in mind when he wrote this, I always felt it was a mock of the war too. |

I know the song was never meant to be a political statement (or so George claims) but it has similar resemblance to the book Animal Farm by George Orwell. This book is, as we all know, really about Trotsky, Lenin, and Stalin (communism in Russia). But I don't know that George was trying to convey this in his song. I'm not even sure when Orwell wrote Animal Farm actually. I just know that this song makes a lot of the same points the book does. |
