Big Audio Dynamite – Medicine Show Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
Scratch that last comment (not that anyone else has read this lyric in the past two years). It's most likely about the widespread drug use of the 80's, specifically cocaine, and how it had a controlling affect on both the rich and powerful as well as the lower class. The Clint Eastwood sound samples make one think of crackpot medicine salesmen in the old west. |

UB40 – All I Want To Do Lyrics

The band name UB40 refers to a British welfare system, and this song definitely refers to the bands name. This song is saying that work sucks and doesn't pay enough, and would be better sitting around doing nothing (and possibly collecting welfare). Reminds me of Office Space, |

Grateful Dead – Sugar Magnolia Lyrics

This song proves the Dead are a true live band. The studio cut sounds like a queer love song, but on the live recordings the band really rocks out. |

Grateful Dead – Franklin's Tower Lyrics
|
The lyrics to this song are about the Ben Franklin's process of creating the Liberty Bell. To make a bell of such a large magnitude, Franklin invented the method of "rolling the dew." After the bell is cast and still hot, it is exposed to large amounts of steam. Afterwards, the bell is rolled in large amounts of cotton sheets. Franklin's peers questioned this technique, upon which Ben replied, "If you get confused, listen to the music play." Thanks to Andrew Shalit for this information. |

Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Lyrics
|
Roger Waters was telling me himself, that when he was a child, his favorite pet was a superfish. The fish was so super because it expressed so many philosophical ideas that inspired all of Pink Floyds music for years to come. Than superfish died, and the band went nowhere. When Pink Floyd started to suck even more, the band wrote this song about the superfish, wishing he could come back to life. The spirit of superfish led the band back to great success with this song |

Sex Pistols – Anarchy in the U.K. Lyrics

The whole point of punk bands was not to write good music, just to create controversy and stir the youth with radical lyrics that they may or may not actually believe in. To say that one real punk band is better than another because of the quality of music is stupid and irrational. The greatness of a punk band should be measured by its affect on the youth and the interest drawn to them because of the lyrics. On another note, how can the Dead Kennedys not be included as one of the great punk bands. Sure, they came later than the Pistols, Clash, and Ramones, but they had the same style and lyrical motives. |

You know your band (or in this case 'group of entertainers') has hit a low point when it covers a Bananarama song. |

No matter how many times I listened to the song I couldn't figure out what it was about, but now being able to read the lyrics it is fairly obvious it is about a merry-go-round |

Frank Zappa – Nanook Rubs It Lyrics
|
The entire "Nanook Suite", including "Nanook Rubs It", "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow", and "St. Alphonzo's" shows that Frank Zappa is a musical genius. They combine abstract and bizarre lyrics with three beautifully written sections within the suite. Its unfortunate that many people listen to Zappa's lyrics only and think he is superficial and without substance. |

I love this song. I first heard in the movie Kingpin and had no idea who sang, but a stumbled upon it later while listening to random Tom Petty songs. |
