Devin Townsend – Earth Day Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I find it truly amazing that Devin Townsend hasn't seen more international success. Something is amiss with the music business when someone who makes music this epic and this incredible don't make it. |
Devin Townsend – Bad Devil Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The lines for It's over and I'm older are switched. As for the meaning, I honestly can't say. It could be about bad influences and temptations. But who says that's a bad thing? Just dunno. |
Devin Townsend – Truth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Well... the meaning? I dunno. I will say that this song is incredible though. Some people say Devin just piles up soundwalls, but in this case, everything he uses fits perfectly together. Truly a progressive work of art. |
Tool – Reflection Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I believe this song is about understanding your own self worth and not considering yourself to be better than everyone else. It bears a strong resemblance to the myth of Narcissus (from which the psychological condition narcissism got it's name) Who was so beautiful that everyone who saw him instantly fell in love with him. He however did not like this, because he didn't think anyone were worthy of his love since nobody were as beautiful as him. For this the gods cursed him to fall in love with his own reflection in the water. He could never embrace his own reflection and it was always out of reach. He spent the rest of his days on the bank watching his reflection until he pined away into a flower. I dunno, just seems logical when you look at the lyrics which speaks of a reflection, narcissism, crucifying the ego and pining away. |
Anathema – Pulled Under at 2000 Metres a Second Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Seems to be about dreaming you are drowning. |
Tool – The Grudge Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Well, this song could possibly be about Bill Hicks' grudge towards CBS. His performance on The Late Show was censored and he was not allowed back on the show. after this, Bill Hicks wrote and 39 page letter to John Lahr from The New Yorker in protest. His act was the first ever to be cencored at the Ed Sullivan's Theater. The reason for the cencorship was his all-out attack on prolifers. He said something like: "If you're so pro-life, do me a favour: don't lock arms and block medical clinics. If you're so pro-life, lock arms and block cemeteries." David Letterman later apologized for this incident, although it was, sadly, after Bill Hicks had perished. The reason I believe that this song, to a certain degree is about this incident, is because of the line "Unable to forgive your scarlet lettermen." Of course, it's a long shot, but it seems sensible, since Bill Hicks was very aggressive in his material, and he held a grudge against CBS for quite some time. Also, Tool have previously honored Bill Hicks. It is also widely believed that the song "Eulogy" is about Bill Hicks, and that "Aenima" was inspired by Bill Hicks' material. Their lyrics include much of what Bill Hicks "preached" in essence, and also Bill Hicks has an album called "Arizona Bay." (The lyrics in the song mention Arizona Bay.) |
Porcupine Tree – The Sound Of Muzak Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Agreed. This song is clearly about the position of major music lables. "The music of the future will not entertain. It's only ment to repress and neutralize your brain. Soul gets squeezed out, Edges get blunt. Demographic, Gives what you want." That there doesn't really require much interpretation if you ask me. |
Porcupine Tree – Blackest Eyes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
To me, this song is about paranoid schizofrenia. At first glance anyway. |
Opeth – Blackwater Park Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I've spoken with a lot of people who claim that Opeth are not Death Metal, and I disagree with every one of them. Opeth have been very influenced by Death Metal and has always had a foot in that genre. Their past few albums (since Blackwater Park) have been very progressive. They didn't really become truly prog until they started collaborating with Steve Wilson from Porcupine Tree. He has produced their recent albums, and his influence is clear. On the Lamentations DVD, Mikael Åkerfeldt said that the next album might be influenced by Black Metal. He said something about it being faster harder and darker or something like that. I'm looking forward to hearing the result. |
Opeth – Bleak Lyrics | 21 years ago |
It sounds like this song is about stabbing someone in the chest and watching them slowly die as they cry. |
Opeth – Demon Of The Fall Lyrics | 21 years ago |
To me this song represents corruption. Someone who first is in love, then realizes that things are not all that good, thus is corrupted by his own anger or hatred. Now the end of this song... WOW. Fucking AWESOME melody. It's so brutal I cream my pants every time i hear it. |
Tool – Eulogy Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Like said before this is a Eulogy to Bill Hicks. Or at least I think so. Maynard is comparing his death to the death of Jesus. Not necessarily to Jesus himself, but he's comparing it to the martyr's death. |
Faith No More – From Out Of Nowhere Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Why can't I post my comment? |
Faith No More – From Out Of Nowhere Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Eh. First of all you have to take the year that was preformed into consideration. Second of all their fashion choices don't have didilly to do with anything. It's the music that counts. Everyone who listens to FNM or any other GOOD band should know that. |

Tool – Eon Blue Apocalypse Lyrics | 21 years ago |
To me it serves as a great intro to The Patient. But there's a certain feel to this song that seperates it from The Patient and makes it clear that it's not a part of the same track. Don't know what it's about though. |
Danzig – Mother Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Great song. It seems like he's talking about people's influence on children and the way they are shielded from the real world and bad people, which is the role it seem's he's playing in this song. |
Tool – Pushit (Live) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Agreed MJK_Is_God. That's the best part of the entire song! |
Tool – 4 Degrees Lyrics | 21 years ago |
skathic, well you're kind of ignoring BlackMage's point here. His point isn't to let everybody know exactly when the song was written, rather that it is just plain stupid to say that this song is about 9/11. |
Tool – Third Eye Lyrics | 21 years ago |
OK. Cuban711. You're right. This song isn't about drugs, but drugs play an important role. This song is basically about what the title says. The third eye. The third eye is "the eye of psychic vision". He speaks of beeing able to see and comprehend things, otherwise not possible. However. To be able to use his third eye he needs to use the effect of drugs as a gateway to access his third eye. Hence "Prying open my third eye." This picture here shows the Anja Chacra. Notice how it looks like an eye. http://www.kheper.net/topics/chakras/Ajna-1.jpg |
Tool – Aenema Lyrics | 21 years ago |
For those of you who had some problems understanding what I wrote; Enema and Anima are the words that make out Aenima. |
Tool – Aenema Lyrics | 21 years ago |
This song is about the cleansing of the soul. Enema = Washing away all the shit inside you, by sticking a hose into your ass and flushing it out with water. Anima = The belief in the soul Aenima = Cleansing away all the shit in your soul. This is strongly connected to "dirty" people in for instance California. California falls into the ocean, and only those with a clean soul, will survive. When he sings "Learn to swim." He's really saying "Cleanse your soul." Whole song is kinda complicated. That's my two cents. |

Tool – Spasm Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Well, Maynard has written songs, ergo it is his (and all the other members') band. Just like Metallica might be Kirk Hammett's band, but he didn't form it. It's also James' and Lars' band. |
Tool – (-) Ions Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I also notice that the sampling they've used sounds like a passing train. Very nice. |
Tool – (-) Ions Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Positive Ions have "lost" some electrons, and protons (which are positively charged) are dominant in the Ion. Negative Ions have more electrons than protons. Electrons are negatively charged, hence when they become dominant the Ion (which was an Atom before it lost or gained electrons) turns negative or positive depending on wether it gains or loses electrons. |
Tool – (-) Ions Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Negative Ions. It has one or more electrons than protons. I think this "song" represents energy. |
Tool – Disposition Lyrics | 22 years ago |
It's about beeing inactive. Not taking part in social action. Just watching the weather change. Beeing alone and lost in your own thoughts. Exploring your own mind and drifting. |
Tool – Prison Sex Lyrics | 22 years ago |
This song is clearly about abuse of another defenseless person. Most likely a child, which is removing the childs sense of right and wrong. Hence the "Do unto others, what has been done to me." Another thing in this song I feel is crucial to it's meaning is when Maynard sings "I have found some kind of temporary sanity in this shit blood and cum on my hands." This means that the child gets used to his abuse, and believe that it is the way things are supposed to be. He eventually finds a false comfort in taking abuse. Personally I don't believe the rumors about Maynard beeing abused as a child, since I have never heard him say it himself before. Also this song could reflect so much more. Probably most posts under Tool here at songmeanings.net are wrong. For instance: In 'Hooker with a penis' Maynard sings. "All you know about me's what I sold you. I sold out long before you'd ever even heard my name." It could represent that Maynard isn't quite like people have thought him to be. |
Tool – Spasm Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Did that fail? Hmm well I'll just write it again. It's a Peach GB song, but Maynards side project/band A Perfect Circle has covered it. |
Tool – Lateralus Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I feel that Maynard is just telling us to live life our own way. Take chances, don't pull back. If you're gonna do something, you better do it right. We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been Spiral out Keep going Spiral out Keep going Spiral out Keep going Spiral out! Keep going It seem's like he's telling us to give it all we got in life, and live it to our full potential. Before in the end death catches up to us. |

Sugababes – Overload Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Am I the only one frowning over the words: "The boy is coming and I'm close to tears." ;P |
Metallica – Creeping Death Lyrics | 22 years ago |
It's not directly based on the bible. Metallica don't believe in that shit. It is, as Jiqokusabre said, based on "The Ten Commandmenst". |
Metallica – The Unforgiven II Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Jigokusabre is right. Except that in the end of Unforgiven that child becomes old. This is about the rest of the life of the person in Unforgiven and how he/she finds someone else who knows how he/she feels. |
Metallica – Until It Sleeps Lyrics | 22 years ago |
It's about cancer. |
Metallica – Wherever I May Roam Lyrics | 22 years ago |
It's not about a nomadic life. It's about Metallica's touring. |
Metallica – The Thing That Should Not Be Lyrics | 22 years ago |
This is Metallica's second song based on H.P. Lovercraft's works. Also check out "The Call of Ktulu". |
Metallica – One Lyrics | 22 years ago |
It's probably the most frightning tale I've ever heard as well. The thought of it makes me want to throw up. Excellent song. |
Metallica – No Leaf Clover Lyrics | 22 years ago |
The song is about knowing what's happening next (in this case something negative) and not caring since it doesn't matter (no luck). |
Metallica – Last Caress (Misfits cover) Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Misfits song. About a last caress. Misfits' lyrics are always straight forward. |
Metallica – Fuel Lyrics | 22 years ago |
He uses an engine as a metaphore for addiction to drugs. The body always want's more, just like one might want to push an engine more. |
Metallica – ...And Justice for All Lyrics | 22 years ago |
Like Jigokusabre said it is about money over justice. The system is way too easily affected by money and wealth that you can basically get away with anything if you have the money. Strange considering that Metallica has spent quite some time in the court lately in the strugle against Napster. And oh guess what. Metallica are rich! |
Metallica – Fade To Black Lyrics | 22 years ago |
The first scraps of the song was written after a stolen amp. They were on a two month tour with Raven at the time i think. Then later when they started putting together the material for Ride the Lightning they completed the song, and it turned out to be about suicide. |
Metallica – Fade To Black Lyrics | 22 years ago |
osu_cowboy2000 that is such bullshit! How could james write the a song about cliffs death three fucking years before he died? This song was written in October - December 1983. Cliff Burton died on the 27th of September 1986. |
