Chicago – 25 or 6 to 4 Lyrics 17 years ago
Isn't it odd that this would be the only Chicago song that even remotely references any drug, let alone something as powerful as LSD? One would think that Chicago would have more drug references in at least one of thier 120+ songs if this was about LSD, or at least have a few psychodelic songs.

It's definitely about songwriting. I'm not stupid enough to think no member of Chicago ever tried drugs, but it doesn't appear to have affected the songwriting much.

Matchbox Twenty – Back 2 Good Lyrics 19 years ago
Besides some very good music, the lyrics are very surprisingly deep for a band most consider "pop-ish".

As stated, it is a "Drinking and Cheating" song. In the beginning, we are committed to someone (dating, married, whatever) and are sitting at the bar, drunk and looking to have a good time... with whoever. We feel something is missing at the moment (the only think that really matters when you're drunk) and we want to get "back to good". Now, everyone knows that the same thing is going through everyone else's mind, it's just not talked about. Yet all the signals are there. Eventually, we slip away with someone. As long as nobody notices, who really does it hurt?

The second verse is right after the fact, and regret sets in. We are now hurt, and possibly hurt the person we are committed to, and maybe even hurt the person we were with. But we don't know how to get back to the way it was before what we did (Back to Good). It was fun at the moment, but there was nothing lasting in it ("you don't own me") and was just meaningless ("in fact it's phony as hell"). Yet, we truly hope in the end that this moment will never come up again, or we will be at a loss to explain ourselves.

But should we have to explain ourselves? Everyone has those cheating feelings. Everyone. How can one person look down on another for breaking down and going farther with those feelings than another? One person stops at flirting, another with a caress, another at a kiss, another... ("everyone hides shades of shame"), yet we have all cheated to some degree. Yet it's all still cheating ("but looking inside we're the same").

Overall, the song is just telling us that everyone is human, and we all eventually go astray. Don't think for a second that everyone else is faultless, and don't put other's down for thier moments of going "too far".

The Clarks – Hey You Lyrics 21 years ago
I recently moved to NJ (help me) from da burgh. I heard one of thier songs on the radio out here about a year ago, but I can't remember which now.

I'm going to see if I can get some of the stations out here to give them some airtime. Thier CDs are in most of the stores out here (Asbury Park/Freehold area).

I haven't picked up this album yet. After hearing all the good reviews, I think I should.

The Clarks – Cigarette Lyrics 21 years ago
Ah, a breath of fresh, 'burgh air!!!

The Clarks are from Pittsburgh, Pa (as am I). Some of the lyrics are reflections of thier hometown. "Fayette County" is to the southwest of Pittsburgh. "Big hair" (like that from the '80s) is still, well, big in the area.

What does it really mean? Heh. I really have no idea. I've always thought that the entire song talks about odd and end things in the area, some that I don't recognize. When I hear of it I get homesick for the Golden Triangle, the Pirates, the Spagetti Warehouse in the Strip, trips to Century III, and the Regata.

Yunz know what I'm sayin'?

Jethro Tull – Bungle In The Jungle Lyrics 21 years ago
tps12, I signed up for an account here and everything, just for you.
To start off, there is no "Jethro" or "Mr. Tull", or at least there hasn't been in many hundreds of years. "Jethro Tull" is a band name, filed under "J" at your local music store, and Ian Anderson is the lead singer, song writer, and flute player (among other things).

The song Bungle in the Jungle was Ian's shot at big city life. "Bungle" is a made up word. The "Jungle" is, of course, the city itself. It is basically painting city life as a situation not much unlike the life of animals in the deep jungle, filled with the lazy yet deadly "tigers" and thier prey.

Although it would not surprise me that the "Christian right" would make up thier own connections, this is the first I've heard of this one.
