Yeah, I always thought the "Perished it, your chocolate soul" was "parachute your chocolate soul". The song makes no sense, but it's one of my favorites. |

There was an interview with Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett (creators of Gorillaz) and they said the song was NOT drug related. They said the "sunshine in a bag" represents whatever you want it to represent, because everyone gets their happiness from different things. |

I read an interview someone did with the band in a magazine, and they aid that is was about his girlfriend getting an abortion, but he really didn't want her to. "Can't you see it's not me you're dying for?" The girlfriend wanted the abortion, and he's saying that he had no choice in the matter. They secretly had it done, and then she started to act depressed and sickly, so they eventually told her parents because they were startting to suspect something had happened ("As weeks went by It showed that she was not fine. They told me son it's time to tell the truth. She broke down and I broke down Cause I was tired of lying"). |

Me and my friend have tried to figure out what this song means for the longest time, but I think the chorus is talking about how he's with a girl and he can really see who she is. The "images" the sun shows is who she really is. She's beautiful and seductive, but she's a fake. No one is taking the time to look at who she is, so they make up their opinions based on the little they know.
As for the rest of the song...I think it's about youth and how teens are so obsessed with dying and depression and they eventually commit suicide. "They were all in love with dying, they were drinking from a fountain that was pouring like an avalanche, coming down the mountain". Also, it talks about innocent teens who love life, but end up dying anyway due to teen angst "Holly caught a bullet but it only hit his leg, while it should have been a better shot and got him in the head". |
