Interpol – Obstacle 1 Lyrics 15 years ago
Premise: he’s committed suicide over a girl who liked him but didn’t love him as he loved her. He’s watching her now as she grieves.

Obstacle 1 -- the first obstacle between them is death

I wish I could eat the salt off of your lost faded lips -- The tears she’s shed are proof that she felt something for him, either regret or remorse This evidence is precious to him and the desire to possess it is the closest he’ll ever get to kissing her.

We can cap the old times, make playing only logical harm
We can cap the old lines, make playing that nothing else will change -- When she thinks of their friendship, she reminds herself there was nothing she could have done to change her platonic feelings for him; logically, it’s not her fault if she couldn’t love him back but she didn’t take into account the emotional harm she caused him.

Well she can read, she can read, she can read, she can read, she's bad
She can read, she can read, she can read, she's bad, oh she's bad -- She’s read his suicide note and knows that he killed himself because of her; she feels guilty and tainted (“bad”)

But it's different now that I'm poor and aging
I'll never see this face again
You'll go stabbing, yourself in, the neck --
The chorus flashes back to the moment right before he kills himself. He’s talks to himself in the mirror knowing that he doesn’t have her and his life is getting worse (“poor and aging”). He says goodbye to himself and then slits his throat.

It's in the way that she poses,
It's in the things that she puts in my hair -- He watches her grieve, hungrily taking in all her actions interpreting them as her signs of affection for him

Her stories are boring and stuff – He doesn’t pay attention to the stories she tells in her eulogy of him since he’s only interested in her, OR, her stories of him are boring because they only tell of their friendship and he wanted it to be much more

She's always calling my bluff – I suppose that at one time, he professed his desperate love for her and gave an ultimatum, ie, if you don’t love me I’ll kill myself. She called his bluff and now he’s dead.

She puts the, she puts the weights in to my little heart and she gets in my room and she takes it apart
She puts the weights into my little heart
I said she puts the weights into my little heart -- He’s dead and could float away and be free from all this, but his love for her weighs him back down to earth and all he can do now is follow and watch her every move.

She packs it away, she packs it away, she packs it away, she packs it away – She logically and coolly puts away all the memories and feelings she’s ever had for him as she returns to normal life.

It's in the way that she walks, her heaven is never enough
She puts the weights in my heart
She puts the, she puts the weights into my little heart -- It’s “her heaven” because his idea of heaven is wherever she is, even though he knows that just watching her will never be enough for him.

Kylie Minogue – Love At First Sight Lyrics 21 years ago
The one thing that bugs me about this song is that the lyrics and title don't match....

"cuz baby when I heard you / for the first time I knew / we were meant to be as one" - and then the title is "Love at First SIGHT". Shouldn't it be "Love at First Sound"?

pick, pick, pick, pick, pick

Fatboy Slim – Weapon Of Choice Lyrics 21 years ago
Has anybody here read Dune? The lyrics here struck a chord with me for some reason:

First of all: "Don't be shocked by the tone of my voice
it's the new weapon, the weapon of choice" - in the book characters can manipulate their voices to become a weapon control their enemies.

"Walk without rhythm-it won't attract the worm" - The book is set on desert planet which is home to huge monstrous worms. Inhabitants have to walk without rhythm so that they won't attract a worm to the surface.

"It's gone beyond bein' a man as i drift off into the night, i'm in flight-ah" - In the book, the main character is transformed into a sort of demi-god because of life on the desert planet. His powers allow him to go beyond space and time to see the future.

It's all a bit of a stretch but the lyrics fit to me.
