The Decemberists – The Infanta Lyrics

This song means the Decemberists don't have to be so dreadfully listless all the time. I'm sure the live show has bit more energy than their records. |

The New Pornographers – The Laws Have Changed Lyrics

I get the feeling sometimes that New Pornographers use their ridiculously catchy pop as a vehicle for uber-subversive obtuse lyrics:
"alone in the chain it remains to be seen how
how well you can play when the pawn takes the queen now"
what???
also the lyrics do sound nice phoenetically, so maybe thats the whole point... |

The Stills – Yesterday Never Tomorrows Lyrics

Definitely my favorite song on the album, it would be nice to see them go more in this direction. It is the last song, so it should carry over to the next album, right?
::fingers crossed:: |

The Stills – Talk to Me Lyrics

Tight little song, and pretty unique in their catalog. Really kinda detached, which seems pretty much par for the course with these guys. |

Bright Eyes – Method Acting Lyrics
| 21 years ago

The first time I listened to this song the only thing I could think of was not its stellar production or sharp lyrics; it was: "Man, this song sounds a lot like 'The Calendar Hung Itself'..." Am I the only person who thinks Conor was a little melodically stifled when he wrote this? I almost couldn't listen to this song when I first got the record because I thought it was embarassing to hear an artist plagerize himself so blatantly. I've adjusted somewhat since, but I still can't listen to the song without feeling at least a little uncomfortable. |

Bright Eyes – The Calendar Hung Itself . . . Lyrics
| 22 years ago

My god thats a terrible idea... Slow down this powerhouse of anger and tension and exploding long-bottled emotion? And Bright Eyes' best uptempo song at that? Well, while I suppose it would be interesting to hear Calendar in an alternate, slower version, I cant envision that pacified (castrated?) version ever surpassing this barreling, shambling, glorious wreck of a song ever. Ever. |
