| @[GlynRhodes:28437] I suspect "No marigolds in the promised land..." is a reference to "The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds", a play written by Paul Zindel in 1964 which was released as a movie in 1972, the year before Countdown to Ecstasy released. Loosely, it's a story about how different people react to diversity. I see a parallel in the song lyrics; rather than being bitter the singer is inviting survivors to join him while he enjoys his last days. I also think this interpretation is consistent with your comments and may suggest why Zindel chose marigolds in the first place. | |
