XTC – Radios in Motion [White Music Version] Lyrics | 11 months ago |
What verb was truncated in the expression "you'se" on the chorus line > When we move then so do you'se I think this line is a transcription error. I hear it (every time) as > When we move it, then so do yours |
The Lemonheads – C'mon Daddy Lyrics | 1 year ago |
Not aware of the Liv Tyler story, I first thought this was an ultimately dark easy-listening song about child abuse and Stockholm Syndrome. I cannot get off that thought, even after Decemberguy's perfectly plausible explanation, it keeps haunting me. Maybe there's a double meaning to this song? I sincerely hope not. It's bad enough that the mere thought ruined this pretty song for me :-| |
Bonny Doon – Blood In The Bathtub Lyrics | 2 years ago |
The singer has found someone he cares about (relationship?) in a classical bathtub-suicide attempt. He can see her incurable pain (over his promiscuity?) and feels guilty, losing sleep and social contact over it. \nUltimately, he tells her that he understands if she will leave him ... or life. |
XTC – Dear Madam Barnum Lyrics | 3 years ago |
http://https//nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phineas_Taylor_Barnum is the source for the antagonist's surname 'Barnum'. But the 'Madam' part of her is unexposed, as yet... |
XTC – Dear Madam Barnum Lyrics | 3 years ago |
@[sneeuwitje:35458] https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phineas_Taylor_Barnum is of course the source for the sirname. Maybe it was a woman that drove A.P. crazy enough to come up with "Madam Barnum"? Or women just fit a better bad-guy profile for him? ;-) |
XTC – Dear Madam Barnum Lyrics | 3 years ago |
Who is Madam Barnum? Is it a self-invented persona (by Partridge) to impersonate evil forces, or is she someone we might actually know from ancient tales? |
The Triffids – Rosevel Lyrics | 4 years ago |
This one is multiple choice ;-) I'm assuming "knuckle bed" means "vagina" in this song. Is that: a. A common expression in English/Australian b. A poetic invention of James Paterson c. Just my misinterpretation ? |
The Triffids – Rosevel Lyrics | 4 years ago |
A quite harsh reflection on a dead end love affair with an unresponsive lover (Rosevel). |
The Cardigans – Tomorrow Lyrics | 4 years ago |
"through the hazy scenery life is blue as water when you're missing somebody" ... when/how/why is water blue, or what is water in this context? |
The Cardigans – Gordon's Gardenparty Lyrics | 4 years ago |
* Jacques Closeau (mis-spelled here, or ..?): https://www.ecosia.org/search?q=jaques+clouseau * Nancy ... Claire: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5sqRP1JZ5s ... Nancy Sinatra, Claire Nevers ... are they the suspects here? * Sooo, even Gordon's garden party was a bit of a shallow happening? Pity, pity... Gordon (who..?) |
The Cardigans – I Need Some Fine Wine And You, You Need To Be Nicer Lyrics | 4 years ago |
@[lucidaconsole:31813] so... make it happen! |
The Triffids – Raining Pleasure Lyrics | 4 years ago |
One of those songs that defined me, and I got to love over 'just' two lines of refrain: "Salty lips to taste, skin to touch Nothing matters, very much" Those words were given such magic in this song, that I forgive them for making a bit of a mess of the rest of it. |
LCD Soundsystem – New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down Lyrics | 5 years ago |
"New York, Just like I pictured it" (Stevie Wonder, Living For The City). At first sight anyone will recognize New York from the movies (the bad and the good). Know any-city-somewhere" and walk a mile in New York... You'll understand why New York might be special. Live there and New York will reveal it's special; That special that can only be loved and hated at the same time. Extremes matter, everything in between is insignificant. New York, City of Cities, altar of ultimate: The love we feel for it enables us to carry the burden it spells. Let's hope that love will overcome: "And if so, is there?" ("... something there for you.") |
Vic Godard & The Subway Sect – Ambition Lyrics | 5 years ago |
@[voltabolta:30468] I hear that too ... and where's the chorus? I'll try to figure out what those words are... :-/ |
No Doubt – Just A Girl Lyrics | 6 years ago |
After my second daughter was born in 1999, and I found myself traveling home from the hospital –where I had to leave my wife and daughter at 5AM– this song playing on the radio gave me so much energy, that a night of bearing with them in deliviry seemed of no effect at all. Realizing that she would grow up in a world where women's emancipation would always have a long history of male dominance against them, plus a biological factor from both male and female perspectives, that would keep blurring a clear view on the essence of living together ... it made me weep ... But the power of this music and lyrics gave hope; I truely believed that if I declared "Just a Girl" as my her anthem, my daughter would find the strength –somewhere– to really change the world in whatever way that matters ... emancipatory or not ... That's my power of music for you! |
KT Tunstall – Suddenly I See Lyrics | 6 years ago |
@[davecheesepipe:24226] that would be a "Song Fact" in SongMeaning's criteria then ...? |
KT Tunstall – Hold On Lyrics | 6 years ago |
To me this song is mainly about the social context of a person's identity and how life cannot be larger than itself. A topic that regularly pops up in KT Tunstall's songs: It does not matter who you "Oh underneath I felt the fire of a burning question, tearing me apart", or others "You say I need more than my fair share of attention" think you are. If what you think you are is the center of your universe "Hold on to what you've been given lately. Hold on to what you know you've got.", you're ready for any challenge you may face ... "Hold on, 'cause the world will turn, if you're ready or not." |
Wavves – Daisy Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Being indecided rules; Nobody will ever touch you ("Not hitting a thing"). You can –and will– constantly change directions; You're ahead always, leaving them at a loss: "Grinning through their teeth". This indecisiveness might catch up with you through the regret of implicitely changing your passions ("I need to hold her, I need to touch her"). In the process even your "polar bear" (who never seemed to care ;-) will stop following you're lead (nobody takes you serious-serious?). You'll have good laughs over all that happened, but it will hurt sometimes, that no one will ever touch you... "Grinning through my teeth". |
