@[Rmeena:16440] no Rmeena that was the literal part of the song. His son was on a rocking horse eating marshmallows after he painted the picture and Lennon had just called a newspaper taxi - and you know what? a Plasticine porter with looking glass eyes turned up - obviously a reference the the Vietnam war or something. |

about drugs? a picture Lennon's son painted? Correct me if I'm wrong guys but my reading of it is a woman, lucy, in the sky, with diamonds. this fits in with a newspaper taxi that always appears on the shore of a lake and everyone smiling at you i think alex fuckrod got it right when he named himself and everyone else doesnt fuck ing LSD don't make me laugh pounds shillings and pence and that stuff. |

purple is a colour sort of between blue and red and I think what Jimmy Hendrix meant was when there was a lot of smog in them days and it came down in polluted and that ties in with the movie plot and book the colour purple and orange isn't the only colour and spell checker say is isn't color but colour. it is a cliche and the colour of royalty because at one time there was no pigment except from crushing a certain kind of beetle and that fits in with the Beatles who didnt' cover the song because it wasn't written then.it also symbolises gods wrath a bit. of course it is about sex because prince was a randy guy heaven has 7 levels so does the electromagnetic spectrum I can't agree with bloodlust because i havent' read his comment but sure it is good with a moniker like that. |

@[nigel11494:16435] yes Nigel that is the point I have been making on every song analysis. The only lyrics that are deep are those in the Birdie Song which is clearly not about birdies in the accepted spirtitual sense of what we mean by existentialism and that sort of pychobabble stuff. |

I strongly disagree with everyone.
Bernie had just watched Wizard of Oz on TV and at the time Elton was pretending he was not gay and marrying women and that. You could equally well apply the lyrics to anything you want as an intellectual exercise (i think a lot of you are putting us on) and always some fucker will swallows it.
Sorry vodka brought me here.
Elton is such a sycophantic wizened old fart. Lord Choc Ice is obviously a reference to his dick when he pulls it out of Bernie.

There is no metaphors and stuff, Lennons method was to right a straight prose then mix it up randomly so it would not seem trite and obvious, and make him look deep like Dylan.
if he didn't know there was no heaven he would be up there laughing at us all trying to sort out meanings that aren't there and bullshitting each other. |

He is saying that we would all be better off under a red ruler. It is funny that John Lennon Airport uses the part 'above us only sky' and neglects to tell us there is no heaven or countries. |

Isn't it strange that princes and King Noel himself has not attributed his brilliant third verse to R L Sharpe who wrote it for him? Ordinary people like you and me would surely have held our hands up to that! Sharpe can't complain, nor can we ask him what he meant because he's is dead. |
