U2 – With or Without You Lyrics 6 years ago
I read an interview with Bono where he said parts of this song are about his desire to make music and be on the road touring and playing before crowds. It means he has to leave his family and life at home. As soon as he has one he misses the other. He stated it really beautifully in the interview.

This is a beautiful song but has an element of sadness running through it. It reminds me of losing people we love and how they want us to carry on :(

@[truss007:16239] You certainly have an interesting take on it. I don't think so, but you might be right. He got James Taylor to perform this song with him live at the Grammy's. Many of JT's songs are about the same thing, being a wanderer and unable to settle down.

A guy is just reminiscing about the simple days of his youth. He grew up in the country, obviously, and loves the way those folks live.

Kenny Chesney – Come Over Lyrics 7 years ago
Kenny Cheney said it's about a "high class booty call." It's not some random woman he wants just for sex. He did love her and feelings are still there, but he's just lonely. Having her there is a comforting on a dark night.

Gordon Lightfoot – If You Could Read My Mind Lyrics 7 years ago
There are so many layers to this beautiful song. Basically it is about the end of a relationship. He really loved the woman, possibly still does. The way he describes the many emotions that come with the end of a meaningful relationship is amazing. "I walk away like a movie star who gets burned in a three way script." Wow! This women once brought out all the good things in him. But that part of their story is over.

All the romance novels from the drug store have endings where the man swoops in and rescues the woman. But that is not real life. Some relationships just don't work. That's why the ending is just too hard to take. So sad!

He's not breaking away from anything. He wants to, but can't. It's what he tells himself and his friends. But then we see him reminiscing on the food times.

Little River Band – Cool Change Lyrics 7 years ago
I think this song is about a man getting older and missing the carefree days of his youth. Maybe he lived in a coastal town or just spend a lot of time on the water. He thinks back to when he had no responsibilities, unlike now (Now that my life is so prearranged). There is a part of him that longs for those times, but we can't always go back.

Toto – Africa Lyrics 7 years ago
Wow. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Many people commenting on here are making this wayyyy more complicated than it is, in my opinion! As I translates to me a woman a man loves is literally coming back in from a trip. Things to be strained between them and he knows it's time to fight for the relationship (hurry boy it's waiting there for you). He needs to fight for her. That is all.

Elton John – Sacrifice Lyrics 7 years ago
I think aleoso is correct. A married man meets someone he is very attracted to and is tempted to cheat. But, he doesn't because of his commitment to his wife and he knows how damaging it would be. He honor's his marriage vows even though there is this person out there who he could be happy with (it's two hearts living in two separate worlds). I love the line about some things look better just passing through. It's easy to see a new person as attractive and exciting when you are in a long term marriage. But it is not worth it because the harm it does to the marriage. Then, problems arise with the new person. So being faithful to his wife is "no sacrifice at all."

Elton John – Rocket Man Lyrics 7 years ago
This song is NOT about an astronaut!! It's a metaphor folks. Hahahaha As it translates to me it's about a very successful man traveling for business. He knows his high-powered world isn't reality or what makes people happy. He misses the simple pleasures of his home life.

Elton John – I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues Lyrics 7 years ago
I have read somewhere that Bernie Taupin wrote this for his wife or girlfriend while he was on tour. He was telling her to not just mope around waiting for him to get home (don't wish it away). He told her to take a painting class or something like that while he was gone because he would be home soon (don't look at it like it's forever). He so beautifully describes what it's like to be in a long distance relationship and the emotions you feel.

Don Henley – The Heart of the Matter Lyrics 7 years ago
This is a song almost everybody can relate to. He was in a relationship with a girl he loved a lot, but it just didn't work. Even though he knows they both will move on, it's hard when he finds out she's in another relationship. I've always thought he hears from the mutual friends she's engaged ... Maybe not. Maybe just happy in another relationship. The rest of the song he spends talking about what he's learned since their break up. Even when you know you aren't supposed to be with someone, it is still hard. The lyrics are so beautiful and honest.

Neil Young – Unknown Legend Lyrics 7 years ago
To me the line "I used to order just to watch her float across the floor" is so romantic. A man was infatuated with a waitress in a diner, but never had the nerve to talk to her. He watches her from afar. She has a mundane life, but still dreams of being wild and free. I think the part about her riding a Harley in the desert is her imagining escaping everyday life. Doesn't really happen. It's just about how our dreams in life don't always come true

Bob Seger – Still The Same Lyrics 7 years ago
This songs seems to be about a man who runs into an old girlfriend, someone he loved very much. But she wasn't ready to settle down and it seems will never be. He talks about catching up with her and realizing she'll never change. He still has feelings for her, but she hurt him and he keeps telling himself she'll always play the field.

There is a mistake in the lyrics. Don Henley sings "I'm driving by your house, though I know you're not home." NOT "don't know you're not home."

Don Henley – The Boys of Summer Lyrics 7 years ago
All the comments are interesting, but, to me, the song is pretty straightforward. Definitely told from a guy's point of view. It's about a guy who lives in a beach/coastal town. The summer is coming to an end and he's thinking about the girl he loves. He is more into her than she is into him. She wanted to have a fun summer with no commitment, but he is letting her know he has waited for her.

Then we see the guy after the passage of time. He tries not to think about those easy summer days of his youth, but he can't forget the girl. He will always remember that young and beautiful girl just out of reach. That's how it translates to me.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters – Bittersweet Lyrics 7 years ago
This song is about the progression of a long term relationship. When they were first together it was like a dream for him. As time moves on reality has set it, but he still loves her (more sweet than bitter). But he has accepted the fact that it is not perfect. We all go through that at some point.
