Devo – That's Good Lyrics 7 years ago
This is probably the best example of the last part of Devo's phrase (with origins dating back to 1924) "the fittest shall survive yet the unfit may live." Despite the negative vibes from much of de-evolution, there is the positive streak (exemplified by this song) that everything will be OK. I choose to interpret the lyrics at face value, although perhaps some of you think it's a big send up.

Devo – Secret Agent Man Lyrics 7 years ago
Sometimes when an artist interpret's someone else's song, you know exactly what the interpreting artist is getting at. For example, it's clear what Devo's version of "Satisfaction" means. But for the life of me, I can't figure out what they were getting at by covering "Secret Agent Man" (unless it's some weird reference to General Boy's infiltration of normal society).

Devo – Beautiful World Lyrics 7 years ago
I'm trying to imagine how I'd react to the song if I had never seen the video. Without the visuals, I'd probably be surprised by the turning knife at the very end (although some listeners detected the tone from the very beginning of the song, apparently).

Devo – (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction Lyrics 7 years ago
@[UglinessMan:14341] Young teenage girls of the mid 1960s could not understand why Mick Jagger couldn't get any satisfaction. Many young teenage girls of the late 1970s could understand why Devo couldn't get any satisfaction, since they were the antithesis of coolness.

Devo – Through Being Cool Lyrics 7 years ago
The actual music is also important to interpreting the song. Devo's new post "Whip It" audience was presumably looking forward to hearing a new hit from their favorite band, so New Traditionalists opens with - a melody-lacking tune that wasn't going to get anywhere near Casey Kasem's Top 40.

Then again, the full electronic nature of the song may be directed toward Devo's older fans, who were decrying the band's move away from guitars.
