53rd and 3rd was totally the gay stroll back in the day. There used to be a really cool gay bar not far from there called Star Sapphire with lots of working boys. A friend of mine owned it and I know for a fact that prostitution was high in that general neighborhood for a while. I also know that Dee Dee by his own admission turned tricks, not sure of the year. I think I read it in his book "Lobotomy". The song IS about a pro who kills a john, seemingly after doing the deed cuz he did what God forbade ie sex with another man. |

Loved this song the first time I heard it in '74 at a party! Always loved this song and felt that it was about the fakery and shallowness of the modeling world, seeing that Bryan Ferry has always had a penchant for young models,and how he felt. Read more into the lyrics than just seeing "take a powder" and assume it means blow. Take a powder also means take a rest or slow down. Maybe some of you out there are too young to know that expression. |
