Michael Jackson – They Don't Care About Us Lyrics 2 years ago
I've always felt that this song was about the he was being treated, but not just him. Despite his fame, he was always thought of as a freak and was always a target for scams and other forms of bad treatment. But he is not alone. All minorities are treated this way, including Jews. But it isn't just the majority that is treating us all this way.

We have been called deplorables, and other insults for the past four years, and treated really badly. They think of us as the bad guy.

And they do their best to push out of their society.

Our America government is passing bills that give aid to people except whites. As one example.

No, he was not being anti Semitic. That's just stupid. Hew as saying that we are all deplorables and treated badly.

Men at Work – It's A Mistake Lyrics 3 years ago
I love this song, but I've always thought it was about propaganda, not the Nuclear Armageddon that others had mentioned. The first thing to go in war is the truth, and the officers and leaders of the military and the country are the worse lairs of us all.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood – Two Tribes Lyrics 6 years ago
The thing about this song is while it does specifically refers to and trashes the conflict between America and the Soviet Union, it is still a message that can be applied to any ideological conflict where the conflict is about who is better and why they should conform to their expectations and demands. That is what hurts people the most, is expectations and demands of conformity. That is the most harmful thing of all, because it's okay to hurt people to force them to conform when you don't do anything wrong and you're better than everybody else.

I love this song and I can identify with it.

It suggest to me it's about anyone who's been in a bad and abusive relationship. They are healing, but healing slowly, and they want to heal faster to get on with their lives.

Johnny Cash – (Ghost) Riders in the Sky (Stan Jones cover) Lyrics 7 years ago
I don't know if this has been mentioned as I haven't read many of the posts, but this song is strikingly similar to the Celtic myth of The Wyld Hunt. It just has a Christian and old west bent to it.

For those who don't know, here's the skinny:

Styx – Boat On The River Lyrics 7 years ago
You know, the first time i heard this song i was a kid of twelve years old and because i was and still am a huge Star Wars fan, as well as Star Trek, so I thought that this was about traveling through outer space.

And i also thought it was literally about paddling a canoe on the river and the peaceful easy feeling being on a calm river can influence on her.

now in my ripe old age, I jsut think it's a metaphor for having sex and possibly losing his virginity.

The Alan Parsons Project – Eye In The Sky Lyrics 7 years ago
You know, just a few minutes ago I was listening to the song and i just came to a realization for the first in liking this song for more than twenty years now.

I wonder if this can be a pro Christian song.

How did i come to this conclusion?

Well, the eye in the sky could be a reference to the all seeing eye of God.

And the lyrics do resemble some Christian philosophy. For example, don't say words that you're gonna regret is close to the philosophy of do unto others as ye wold have them do unto you.

But this just speculation, and i could be wrong.

But if the guys in the band are Christians, then that would pretty much go a long way to support my assertion.

I'm still very curious about the line of Had two big horns and a wooly jaw,

I'm not entirely sure that's a metaphor for a vagina.

If it is, I've never heard of a vagina with two big horns.

Unless it's a threesome.

Men at Work – Land Down Under Lyrics 7 years ago
This is what i really have a huge appreciation of this site for.

You see, for the longest time I thought the line was "then she gave me a bite of my sandwich"

Which made absolutely no sense to me.

then I come to this site to learn the lyrics to sing the song properly, then I come to find out that I misheard it and the line is "then she gave me a Vegemite sandwich".

To which I went arrrrrrgh.

So has anybody else hear "then she gave me a bite of my sandwich" or is it just me?

Weird Al Yankovic – White & Nerdy Lyrics 7 years ago
the lyrics are some of the most hilarious lyrics i've ever heard.

But, believe it or not, there is a problem i've come to notice about these kinds of songs.

Many people will know Weird Al's lyrics without knowing the original song, and that is a disservice to the original artist who wrote it.

But for the life of me I just can't understand how mayonnaise is white and nerdy.

@[SomethingFrosty:12879] I don't see how it is about drugs. You can have very abd life in the city WITHOUT the use of drugs, you know.

But you are absolutely wrong. In America, we all have to have the same opinions. conformity is the rule of American society. Individual rights and needs mean nothing to anyone.

We must all conform, respect and obey authority.

That is the rule. That is the law.

And if you don't then leave the country.

Metallica – Master of Puppets Lyrics 8 years ago
For me, this song has many aspects, but the strongest one for me is the time that is spent in an asylum or psychiatric hospital.

BUT, Author Ryan Moore thought the lyrics depicted "ominous yet unnamed forces of power wielding total control over helpless human subjects

Which still fits, because, whether you like it or not, all of America really truly is an asylum filled with utterly crazy people who only want to hurt and yell and scream and tear at each other and who refuse to respect each other over vain and petty differences.

Because it's fun and trendy.

I love this song, but i have to be in a specific mood to get into it.

Metallica – Of Wolf And Man Lyrics 8 years ago
I've always thought that this song was both about werewolves myself, being an avid player of Werewolf The apocalypse influenced that.

But i have no reason why it can't be both metaphorical and about werewolves.

We all wear different masks because America is not really a free society. it is beliefs and opinions that count, along with conformity, not individuality, objectivity, fairness, and factual based beliefs and opinions after all. If you are not the same as the group yo are with the will punish you to correct your behavior to one that they approve of, or be ostracize if you don't conform.
That's just the way it is in America, regardless of the hoopla of freedom, inalienable rights, and civil liberties, and all that razamatazz.

you have to have different masks you wear in order to survive in American culture. The masks that you wear at work to avoid being fired, You have to wear the face of a husband if you're married. You have to wear the face of a father if you have children. so on and so forth.

Everything is a mask you wear to the outside, you can only be yourself when you're alone and in the dark. That can of personality can be a change of shape.

This doesn't include people who like to change their appearance either, by changing their clothes a lot or dyeing their hair, or with plastic surgery.

So in my ripe old age, I think it is both about werewolves and just a general metaphor for how we all act to find a place for us in our society.

Bruce Springsteen – Born in the U.S.A. Lyrics 8 years ago
I don't view this as an anti war song myself.

I view it as a song about the plight of the Veterans who became homeless after Viet Nam because of the liberal bias against military personnel and their opinion, rather uneducated one at that, of all Veterans being child killers because of the act of a few.

I also don't view it as a patriotic song, and should be obvious to those who pay attention to its lyrics as not being patriotic. it is also NOT anti patriotic.

It is simply portraying the plight of homeless veterans in a "this is what happened you be the judge" manner.

It's a great song. Gell, it's an awesome song.

Drowning Pool – Bodies Lyrics 9 years ago
Guys, the song is about being in a mosh pit. According to the wiki:

Drowning Pool front man Dave Williams stated on Uranium that the song is about being in a mosh pit but that it has clearly been misinterpreted. Williams elaborated in a 2001 interview:

"CJ came up with the riff, and I thought that was cool and I said, 'Let the bodies hit the floor,' and they looked at me and said, 'That’s pretty cool.' We just built it around that hook and the rest fell in place. It’s about my perspective when I look out and see the pit. It’s about forgetting everything that has happened to you that week, leave your bullshit at the door and get it all out. But you have to have respect for the others in the pit. If you push them down, you have to pick them back up. I’m not going to get behind the violence thing, it is violent, but there is a certain amount of respect and a code."

Sting – We'll Be Together Lyrics 9 years ago
This is not a stalker song. That was Every Breath You Take. And he is on record as saying he can't understand why people think it's a romantic song.

But I view this song as a guy who is just completely infatuated with a girl. It's pretty much straightforward, not metaphorical, or allegorical, or sneaky.

And it is indeed one of his best songs.

Have you ever notice though, if you've followed his career, that is earliest songs with the Police were very repetitive? Message in a Bottle, Roxanne, Don't Stand Too Close To Me, just to name a few.

later on his songs did change and did have some repetition to them, but not quite like that, more like in strong structure, such as We'll Be together, Fields Of Gold, and Fortress Around Your Heart.

He is a very talented artist, nonetheless.

Blue Öyster Cult – Godzilla Lyrics 9 years ago
Godzilla is actually an anti nuclear weapons statement with some anti Americanism in it. After all, America was the first country to ever use nuclear weapons in an act of warfare.

But I think that what most people don't realize about him, and I think this is what makes him so popular, is that he is actually a dragon.

I did know about Charles Mansion and that he wanted a race war and tried to start one with the Taite LaBianca murders and the song existed before that.

My take on the song is that it's just a guy who is very unsatisfied with his girlfriend and thinks he's better than her and enjoys putting her down.

Depeche Mode – Strangelove Lyrics 9 years ago
While sin does have religious connotation, it doesn't have to mean sex itself. It could mean having bad thoughts about sex. According to Christianity, immoral sex is any sex outside of marriage is a sin, and is considered adultery.

So, I don't think this is about sex per say.

To me, this song is about all the feelings you get when you are in an intimate relationship. Especially in a long term relationship, you get annoyed, and sometimes being annoyed will lead to fights. Then comes the feelings you get when you reconcile those conflicts. not to mentions all the other kinds of feelings you get too, such as when you randomly think about you loved one.

There is also insecurity of all sorts. insecurity for when you are out of work and not able to take care of your loved one. Insecurity when you see your loved one with someone you don't know.

Then there's absolutely lustful thoughts like wanting to see your loved one naked.

Without specifics anything else is inferred.
